7. Meeting His Wolf

A scream wanted to leave my mouth. The instincts immediately kicked into my body at the sight of such a menacing wolf attacking Blake.

The need to charge out that door with a gun pointing at the beast's head overcame me. One feeling I couldn't deny was also the immense protection I felt just as the wolf attacked, part of me angry that Blake was going to get hurt for nothing.

Moving quick, I snatched a sharpened pencil off of Chase's bedside, thankfully confused over why I seemed to always have a pencil as a weapon at this place.

Not taking another moment, I yank the bedroom door back open to show the scene in the hallway. The black wolf was above Blake, who looked to be completed submitting besides holding the wolf's jaw from biting into him.

Blake's eyes snapped to me and widened in alert. He went to shout at me, but I was charging before he could get out a word.

With a low grunt, I jumped at the wolf. My arms wrapped around its neck and I tumbled us to the side, effectively setting Blake free from the monster's jaws.

Mission completed, now let's not die.

The wolf let out a vicious growl as it bucked me off it's back. It black fur was over me, one large paw resting on my chest and holding me down. My grip on my 'weapon' tightened as I plunged the pencil towards the wolf's neck, all intentions to impale it.

My arm suddenly stopped for no reason. This tightness that settled in my chest hurt, like really hurt. It pressed hard on my heart- my lungs- and left me gasping for air. My arm felt heavy.

The wolf above me ceased all movements, just staring down at me. Its eyes were pure black, matching its fur. Honestly, it was a beautiful beast. The raw power that emanated from it was mind numbing. Truly a magnificent thing...that I was trained to kill.

If it doesn't kill me first.

The thought flashed through my head the second I remembered that I couldn't seem to move my weaponed hand any closer towards the wolf. Strange enough, the worry was useless in this situation. The wolf whimpered a second later, moving its paw off of my body to let me breathe properly. I clutched the towel that, luckily, was still wrapped around me and moved to sit up on the floor.

"Blake?" I held my gaze on the wolf in case it tried to attack at last minute while speaking to the one other person in this hallway who still appeared human.

"Yes, Luna?" Blake kept his voice professional and from the corner of my eye I could see that he avoided looking towards me.

"Help me," I ordered, not moving a muscle. "How do I escape this...alive?"

My frightened question had Blake chuckling and shaking his head. A scowl formed on my lips. "You find this entertaining?!"

"Macey-" Blake was cut off by the black wolf growling a low, rumbling sound.

It walk closer to me. The enormous frame had me doubting my safety at the moment. Fear once again instilled itself into me as I searched for a way out of this. If I were to be standing, the wolf's back would most likely reach my shoulder.

The beast got close enough that its muzzle was right near my face, letting me feel its every breathe.

"Luna, he won't hurt you," Blake assured me as I pressed myself against the hallway wall as far as I could go.

"He?" I whimpered, forcing myself to keep my eyes open and not vomit in disgust whenever he licked my cheek.

"It is Alpha Chase, Macey. This is his wolf form," Blake explained.

I felt myself relax almost instantly. It was just Chase.

Just Chase?! Get yourself together, Jacks! He is a wolf!

Nodding to myself, I slowly stood up off of the floor. With one hand, I clutched my towel tighter to my body. My other hand slowly reached out towards Chase's wolfish head. It seemed like time stood still for a while. A part of me knew that Chase would not bite my hand off; that he wouldn't harm me in any way.

However the logical part of me was fighting against those thoughts. This was a beast. He was a monster. His teeth and claws could rip me to shreds in just seconds.

Yanking my hand back against my chest, I forced my mind to snap back to reality. I could pretend to be the perfect mate for Chase whenever he was in human form. Wolf form was another story. One wrong move and this guy could bite my head off without a second thought. Never again would I come this close to falling for the mate bond. Wolves were dangerous. There was no way to change that.

Glaring at the wolf, I made sure neither of us got an inch closer to the other. Whenever Chase took a step towards me, I growled back and shook my head. He immediately stopped, assuring me I had some kind of control over the situation.

"Blake, I want to go back to the room," I voiced. Chase snarled whenever Blake took a step towards me. I immediately snarled back at the beast in the room.

"I'm in a towel. I am uncomfortable in this situation and you are scaring me right now," I hissed angrily. Chase still snarled but stepped out of my way. Blake gestured for the open bedroom door.

"I don't want to stay with him tonight," I mumbled, my head spinning at this point.

I want to go home.

Chase growled viciously as I said this. I felt a hard push on my lower back, causing me to whip around in warning. I couldn't turn my back to him.

No matter the fear that was going through me, I held my ground. My body was shaking as I was now cold, but not just on my bare arms and legs. My entire body felt cold and closed off to my mind.

"I am not staying in the same room as you tonight. If you don't respect this, I'm sure Blake does," I challenged. As of now, I had no clue what was coming over me. I still had the pencil in my hand, but I felt vulnerable.

I wasn't even sure if Blake would defend me in case I angered Chase enough that he attacked.

Chase, again, growled. It was low and dominant, obviously frustrated to his extent.

Still snarling, Chase stepped between Blake and I. He snapped his jaws at his beta before looking at me. The look in his eyes was daring me to challenge him.

Challenge accepted, wolf.

"Either you let Blake take me to find some clothing for the night or I will be staying in this towel. And do not doubt that I will find every possible way to anger you while doing so," I stated. My own challenge was placed with those words as Chase locked eyes with Blake before bounding into his bedroom.

Fat wolf can barely fit through the door.

I heard another growl emanating from the room.

"Well, let's go," I spoke up after a moment of awkward silence. Blake shook his head just as Chase appeared in the doorway, this time in human form and dressed in checkered pajama pants.

The murderous look on his face had me almost backing down. His dark brown hair was messy and his jaw was locked tight. All in all, he looked absolutely stunning and edible.

Edible? Really, Jacks? Get out now before this goes any further.

Chase blinked, looking shocked for just a moment before his expression returned to the furious glare he had before. "You will be staying with me tonight so I suggest you get in this room immediately. Blake, you are dismissed."

"Blake, do not move a muscle," I ordered. Chase held my gaze as his eyes darkened.

"You are my mate. I found you, standing with my beta, in merely a towel! I had every right to kill him the moment-"

"No! You had absolutely no right to kill him!" I interrupted Chase the moment his words registered in my mind. The amount of disgust I had for these animals was at its peak in this moment.

"Blake, leave this instant! Pay no attention to your Luna's commands." My mouth dropped open at Chase's words. He had kept his eyes on me at that moment before turning slowly to the stoic man on his other side. "If I see you with my mate in any situation like this ever again I will not hesitate to banish you from my pack and tell every fucking Alpha alive why they should not trust you around their women."

Throughout Chase's threat, Blake only bowed his head before walking off with simply a "Yes, Alpha."

"You disgust me." I barely even whispered my feelings before shoving my way into the monster's lair. The closing of the door and Chase's heavy footsteps told me he had followed after me.

"Macey," Chase called out. I ignored him, keeping my back to him as I stood completely motionless.

"Macey, I am sorry. I am sorry that I scared you and that I have given you the impression that I am an evil man. I'm not. I'm your mate and I found you indecent with my best friend. How did you expect me to react?" When I still didn't respond to Chase's apology, he grabbed my shoulder and spun me around.

Using the momentum, I swung my fist out and clocked Chase right in the jaw.

While a mere grunt came from him, a loud swear echoed off my lips. The pain immediately shot through my hand, bringing tears to my eyes. "Are you made of rock?" My frustrated scream brought a small smile to Chase's face as he struggled to contain his laughter.

"This is so not funny," I snapped. Chase shook his head in false agreement.

"Let me see your hand."

"It's fine," I grumbled, sitting on the edge of the bed and frowning up at Chase. "I'm trying to understand how this works; how mates work. I understand I should not have gone out in only a towel, but you shouldn't have reacted the way you did."

"My reaction was perfectly suitable for the situation," Chase argued.

"You can't threaten to kill a man for being near me!" I shot back. God, the amount of willpower I had left was dwindling. If I didn't escape soon I was going to go insane with the need to shoot someone.

"I can do as I see fit in this pack. I am the Alpha and you are my mate. It is damn time you acted like one!" Chase's words hit me and I lost it. I lost all meaning of logic in my mind as I stood toe to toe with the Alpha.

"I have had less than a day to adjust and you expect me to be the perfect mate immediately. I could kill you in a heartbeat. I could kill any of you without a second thought," I spat out.

"You say that now yet you could even bring yourself to strike me with a pencil," Chase smirked humorlessly. "You do not have so much strength against your mate, your pack, as you seem to think."

Taking a cheap shot, I smirked back, "I could kill myself then."

Chase reacted to my words instantly. He had me pinned down on his bed with my wrists held above my head quicker than I could fully finish my sentence. The amount of pressure he placed on me was painful bliss.

Being in only a towel allowed me to feel his body pressing down on top of me. I could feel his skin making contact on my arms and his legs holding me in place as if I could escape him and run. The same hot sparks ran through my body, making my head spin through my headache.

"If you ever speak of harming yourself in any way, I will not hesitate to lock you up and put a guard by your side every waking moment of your life. I will personally make sure that not a single bit of harm touches a hair on your body."

Chase spoke directly into my ear, letting my feel his breathe hitting my skin. It brought butterflies to my stomach and I squirmed uncomfortably underneath him. Chase's body tensed even more at my movement and he grunted painfully.

"Don't move," He ordered with a very different tone to his voice. Even if he seemed to be in pain as he said this, I could not help but defy his command.

"Don't tell me what to do!" I struggled to get out of his grip, resulting in him placing his full weight on top of me and burying his face into my neck. This time, I froze.

"I warned you...not...to move," Chase hissed, grunting shortly and tightening his hold on my wrist. His lips placed a delicate kiss on my neck, sending a jolt of energy through my body.

"Stop. Stop, Chase," I whimpered, immediately hating the situation I was in. This creature was forcing himself on me and I felt absolutely sickened and afraid.

"I'm trying to calm my wolf down, Macey. I need you...God! I need you to...to cooperate..." Chase trailed off with a growl, leaving me almost shaking.

"Chase, please get off of me," I begged. This time, I really couldn't stop the tears from building up. I didn't want this.

Home. I just want to go home.

"Stop talking," Chase grumbled, his grip loosening on my wrists as the weight of his body disappeared from me.

I opened my eyes when I realized I had clenched them shut and immediately found Chase standing at the end of the bed.

"I'm sorry-" Chase began, but I didn't let him finish as I slid myself off the bed and opened my own mouth.

"Don't ever touch me again," I commanded, my mouth set in a disgusted snarl. There was no way I could get what just happened out of my mind.

Chase stood there with wide eyes and visibly gulped. "My wolf had control, Macey. I didn't mean to do that to you."

"You threatened to end a man's life for standing near me while I was dressed like this, yet you think you have the right to force yourself onto me like that?" The words were flying out of my mouth before I could stop them. I was just so angry by this point that I could barely keep up with my mind. Nothing I said was registering.

"Macey, I didn't force myself-"

"You are a monster. You all are." My final words shut Chase right up. His jaw hardened as he took in a deep breathe, closing his eyes and clenching his hands into fists.

"You can wear my clothes until we get you your own." Chase opened his eyes and they looked dead and dull. "Get some rest. I will be in my office if you need anything."

For the rest of the night I was left alone in the dark room. I just stood there for what seemed like hours, not finding the strength in me to move. Everything felt heavy: my legs, my head, my chest.

Nothing felt real.

My mind was too busy processing the events of the day for me to realize the time passing by. I just felt completely frozen in place.

I just felt cold.
