3. Questioning

"What's your name?" Blake growled, his hands slamming down onto the table that was in front of me. A loud thud echoed and I winced, also letting out a whimper.

"Blake," Chase warned in a deep voice. Damn, if I thought Blake was hot then I was in trouble when it came to Chase.

Stupid men. All the hot ones have to be wolves.

"Why did you have weapons on you? Silver weapons?" Blake snapped at me. He was scowling now, his hair messed up from the frustrated hands he ran through it.

I absolutely refused to talk.

"Answer me! You know exactly what we are!" Blake leaned closer, his face not far from mine and his green eyes blazing. Swirls of black were now threatening to overtake the green.

I took my eyes away from his to look at Chase. He kept an emotionless face besides the anger evident in his eyes.

"In fact, your entire house was covered in it. Silver." Blake circled around the table, closer to me. "Wolfsbane." He walked behind my chair. "Weapons hidden in every possible place." He spoke directly behind my ear in a dangerous tone. One that's daring me to reject this knowledge.

"Your scent. We've tracked it for so long," Blake stated as he walked back in front of us. "Chase was addicted to it. He didn't know why though."

"Blake, enough," Chase growled out. Blake ignored him.

"Then we found you. Damn, I was excited. The scent of the girl who had killed so many wolves, and we finally tracked her down. I was finally going to get to rip your throat out," Blake smirked at my wide eyes and shaking hands.

"I-I don't know what your talking about," I stammered out.

If only I had a weapon...

"You better tell the fucking truth before I do what I was looking forward to before!" Blake snapped in my face, his hands grabbing onto the arm rests of my chair. I pressed back, away from his handsome face.

In a second, Blake was thrown against the wall with Chase's hand around his neck. Chase's form was shaking slightly, his muscles tensed and growls coming out of his throat.

"Alpha," Blake choked out, "I'm only...only q-questioning."

Alpha. Shit, Chase is the Alpha?

"Threaten her again. I dare you. Give me one reason to think you will bring any harm to that woman and it will be your throat that is ripped out," Chase promised.

"Let him go," I found myself saying. Chase froze while Blake's eyes snapped to mine. They were wide and confused, shocked.

Suddenly, Blake was dropped onto the floor with Chase taking deep breathes.

"Answer his questions," Chase demanded. I quickly formed a plan in my mind.

"Please, can I have one question answered first? I'll tell you my name," I bargained. I needed more information for my plan.

"Yes!" Chase immediately agreed, while Blake seemed wary of this deal.

Chase spun around to face me, eyes wide and waiting.

"Macey. Macey Jacks," I spoke my name with the hope that it wouldn't backfire on me.

"Macey," Chase breathed out, a smile tugging at his lips.

Damn, what was wrong with this Alpha? Shouldn't he have killed me the moment he found me?

"What's your question?" Blake brought the main focus back up, not seeming as in awe of my name as Chase was.

"Earlier, you said he was addicted to my scent. Why? What's so special about it? Does it have to do with you kidnapping me?" I shot off question after question, hoping they would give a full explanation.

Blake shared a look with Chase, both silent for a minute or two. The waiting was agonizing.

Finally, Blake nodded and stepped back. Chase stepped forwards, walking around the table to stand in front of me. He leaned back against the tabletop, chewing on his bottom lip for a second.

"Macey, do you believe in soul mates?" Chase asked.

I almost scoffed, but kept my shy and whimpering facade up.

"Not at all," I answered. Chase nodded, looking a little hurt by my answer.

"Well, we do. What I am, what Blake and I both are, well..."

"God, Chase, could you explain any slower?" Blake mumbled.

"It's harder than it seems!" Chase snapped back, running a hand through his dark brown hair.

"Macey, there are things called werewolves. I know you know about us, all the weapons you had specifically to kill us proved it! Especially the way you were armed on that full moon," Blake started, his voice annoyed at this point.

"Blake, stop! You are going to scare her!" Chase yelled, his angry eyes snapping to Blake before worriedly going back to me. "Macey, please tell me the truth. Did you know about us? About werewolves?"

I didn't know what to do. They obviously knew that I wasn't clueless. I was caught redhanded with silver weapons and wolfsbane. I had been armed on that full moon, clearly ready for an attack.

When no words escaped my mouth, Chase sighed.

"I told you, Chase. She's a hunter. She kills our kind," Blake shook his head, "Your God damned mate had to be a hunter!"

"Mate?" I couldn't stop the word from escaping my lips.

This could be my way out.

Chase shook his head. "It doesn't matter," He mumbled towards me. He turned away, his muscles tensed. "Blake, what am I going to do?" He whispered in a not so quiet voice.

Blake shrugged and shook his head. "She's a hunter, Chase. You know what the pack would want."

"I can't!" Chase immediately growled. "I can't, she's my mate."

"Chase?" I spoke up. He locked eyes with me.

"That's the first time you've said my name," Chase muttered.

"I did it. I killed wolves," I admitted. Blake growled while Chase froze with wide eyes, looking angry and panicked.

Forcing more tears into my eyes, I let out a convincing sob. "I didn't know. I didn't know they were human. My father never told me. I-I thought...I just thought..." I didn't let myself finish as I choked out more cries, shaking my head.

The truth was, I knew. I had every knowledge that werewolves were half wolf half human. They could shift into either whenever they wanted. Until I had seen Chase's eyes shift colors today, I thought all wolves only had black eyes. That's how I identified them as wolves when they were in human form.

My father had brought me up as a hunter since I was ten. I didn't actually kill a wolf until I was 15, but I had trained hard for those first five years.

I had seen wolves snatch humans in alleyways. I had seen them kill innocent hikers and reckless teenagers who happened to be exploring the woods, taking them from their families.

Wolves were ruthless, not to be trusted. This was the very first encounter I had with them in which they weren't trying to kill me.

Yet. They're wolves, Macey. They can break at any time.

"Please, I didn't know," I whimpered, looking up at Chase with wide and begging eyes.

Chase and Blake both stood there, dumbfounded on what to do, it seemed. Looking at Chase had me worrying about this lie. Why did I have a horrid feeling in my chest over this?

If only I could just get out of here and run.

The two men stayed silent for the longest time, just looking at each other. Honestly, it creeped me out. Did they have a thing for each other?

I cleared my throat, raising my hand to brush the light brown hair from my face. The silence was annoying me; not knowing what the two beasts were thinking.

"Chase?" At my voice, his eyes snapped to me.

"I believe her, Blake. I trust her completely," Chase stated with determination.

Blake nodded. "She's your mate. I wouldn't expect anything else. Remember though, if she appears a threat to anyone in this pack then we've got to take action."

Chase tensed, growling, but otherwise nodded.

"C'mon, Macey." Chase reached to pull me out of my seat but I held tight to the armrests.

"What are mates?" I needed to know. All information available can help me to get free.

"I can explain later. Let's go," Chase insisted.

"No! Blake, don't let him take me. I need answers too." Chase snarled at Blake when he stepped closer. "I just gave you a reason to kill me. Tell me, please, what did you mean when you called me your mate?"

"Blake, leave us," Chase requested. Blake nodded.

"Yes, Alpha. I'll see you around, Macey."

Once Blake was out of the room, Chase began speaking.

"A mate is a person who basically completes you. The legend goes that the god of the wolves created each wolf to have a man or woman to spend their lives with. Practically everyone finds their mates, but some get rejected. Some mates just don't accept each other and refuse to be together.

"Being without a mate could practically kill a person," Chase let out a dry chuckle. "Mother Nature has a cruel sense of humor sometimes."

"How do you know I'm your mate?" Please, God, let this be a mistake. Don't let me be destined for a wolf, a beast.

"Your scent is intoxicating to me. The moment I began tracking it I had doubts, my wolf kept screaming at me when I talked about...nevermind."

"No, tell me," I insisted.

"No, Macey. Forget it," Chase insisted back.

I already knew the answer, so I didn't press it. Chase was tracking me to have me killed, there was no doubt about it.

"Mates are important to wolves, Macey. If you will just see that we aren't monsters to be killed, then you can see how important I can be for you too," Chase finished. He chewed on his bottom lip again, tugging it between his teeth.

"Okay," I nodded, taking in this information. Chase only smiled.

From this information, I had my plan. I couldn't be expected to survive with a pack of werewolves, let alone have a relationship with the Alpha of them. If this entire 'mate' theory was true, then Chase was going to be completely whipped and wrapped around my finger. He would fall at my feet once he believed he could trust me. I planned on gaining this trust beginning immediately.

Chase was going to believe I was becoming the perfect mate. He was going to believe I cared for him, loved him even, and then I was getting out of here.

I didn't know when or how, but I was leaving even if it meant tricking the Alpha into thinking I actually cared about him.
