Pain. Just pain. That's all I feel.
The sound of fire fills my ears, the popping bricks forcing their way into my subconsciousness. I have to get out, but there's a metal sheet pinning me down. However, there's something worse on my mind
Where
Is
Max?
I couldn't reach him in the chaos, and I don't know what his fate was. Maybe if I get out I could find him
I gently push the roof off me, until I'm able to wriggle free. I stand up, and wince. Is seems my ankle is sprained or maybe even broken, but I can't focus on that now. And then, I see him. Max. Half buried under a heap of rubble. I run over to him, ignoring the obvious pain screaming at me to stop. When I reach him, I can see he's still breathing. Relief fills me as I start removing some of the chunks covering him. He might be unconscious, but he's still alive.
Once I'm done, I sit down, looking at the plane of destruction in front of me. The chance of other survivors is small, but not impossible. I sigh, and look down
Suddenly, a water pipe close by bursts, sending a stream of water into the air. I hear a stifled scream behind me, then a series of coughs. I turn around and see Max trying to get up. I crawl over to him and put my hand on his shoulder. He calms down and takes a few slow breaths, then sits up and hugs me. I hug him back, trying to stay calm. I can feel him stroking my hair. and it makes me relaxed. I snuggle closer.
Suddenly, he stops. I can feel him tense up. I look over my shoulder to see a mysterious figure standing a few metres away. The figure steps a bit closer and takes off their mask
I'll recognise that face anywhere
