Chapter 6
Camri cried and cried as if it would make her feel better. She just wanted to stay with the body of her deceased friend. She also wished she couldn't hear the arguing in that same room.
Veronica ran out of the little safe spot and hugged Irene. It was not much of a surprise that Irene made it out, but she was still relived.
Then, Veronica said to her; "You okay?"
"Stop it! Ashley just died!" Jace yelled looking at the body and Camri out of the corner of his eye. He honestly felt bad for her, but wasn't all that surprised. People die here. That he thought was obvious. When thinking about this thoughts of everyone who had died rushed into his head. Loretta, who he had become friends with in the short time they were acquainted. Ruby, who he felt bad about disliking her because before all this started she was really nice to him and everyone, not to mention how rough her death was for Harry. Then Landon, who he didn't like, but still was helpful and didn't deserve his fate. He had heard him yelling at them and his last words stuck with him. You all are monsters. Were they? What if all this was useless and they didn't get out anyways. Now they had gotten Ashley killed. Nice going us. He thought.
"Enough moping around. Yes, Ashley just died. But we are all going to be dead soon if we don't get a move on." Irene said.
"Easy for you to say, you killed her." The whole room went quiet. "But you have a point. She is with Ruby now at least," Camri finished. With that Harry burst into tears. He hugged Jace. He was a mess. His suit was damp from all of the crying and his best friend there was someone his dead best friend didn't get along with. It seemed like he couldn't go two seconds without getting into a fight, crying, or causing destruction of some kind.
Teddy sighed. "Guys, we need to pull ourselves together. We need to find some way to-" He trailed off, as he noticed a small slip of paper from the ground. "That's weird. It almost looks like a doctor's note." A gear was attached to it. Being The Engineer, he knew a thing or two about gears. But this one was alone, which means it probably has a place somewhere among other gears.
"How many more bloody puzzles will they throw at us?!" Harry stopped crying and wiped his eyes after talking. Veronica snatched the piece of paper from Teddy before he could read the actual note.
"What are we voting each other into now?" Ash asked obviously upset but mainly just annoyed. This was so repetitive. He wished he could have gone into the last one so he could show everyone that he has a place with them. He hasn't talked much, and he could easily take out anyone from this group, having trained in combat before.
"We aren't," Veronica meekly stated. "We aren't voting anyone in." She had more confidence in her voice, but still shocking everyone.
"What?" Ash thought maybe he assumed that these were repetitive too soon. What could be an alternative that is still enough to scare Veronica, one of the toughest people here.
She shuddered. "One m-must go, but this is-isn't like your burial challenge. One must die out of their own free will. You will f-f-find the needed materials i-in the cellar."
No one said anything.
Own free will. So he was safe then. Ash didn't see himself being the reason he died, so there was no way he would die.
Veronica on the other hand, wasn't so sure. Nobody knew her. She invited them here because after she got the place, she started to--get a little insane. Nobody would visit her. She started seeing and hearing things. In all honesty, she hasn't slept in a week. She started to walk down to the cellar. Everyone followed nervously. "Here we are." She said with her old confident shell. It protected her. She liked it. She let that influence her thoughts, even though she was slowly crumbling inside.
There was a syringe. And a note.
Live. Or not.
"That's annoyingly vague."
"Any volunteers?" Irene asked.
No one said anything. They didn't want to do this. None of them. But someone had to. "How about you, Veronica? You got us into this mess." Someone from the back said.
"Huh?"
"You're the one who did this to us." Ash repeated. Someone had to go. Might as well be the person who trapped them here.
"Ash, chill out." Irene intervened. She really didn't want Veronica to die. They were friends.
"You're one to talk. You are responsible for several deaths."
"So are you! All you of have voted people in!"
"ENOUGH!" Veronica yelled. "Ash is right. It's all my fault."
"Veronica, don't say that." Veronica ignored her and stepped up to the syringe.
"It's true. Everyone knows it." Irene looked like she was going to comfort her "DON'T!" Her voice was much squeakier. More scared. Irene stepped closer anyways. She was crying.
"Please. Don't. We can work something else out."
Veronica shook her head. "No. There isn't. Y'all think I'm the monster? You think I did this? Well here you go. I'm admitting it. I hope your happy." Then Veronica picked up the needle and shot it into her neck. She hugged Irene who was sobbing violently. Veronica felt her short curly hair for the last time.
Irene felt her go limp in her arms.
A/N
I am on the verge of tears 😢😭. I didn't want to kill her off, but I guess I knew what I was getting myself into when I started writing this book.
Sorry for the slow updates, I just couldn't chose if I wanted to change it. I really hate killing off characters.
(Word count is 1,000 words exactly yay)
Tearfully yours,
Thessie
