Chapter-2
Kian Turner
Nothing had ever confined me to one place. Nothing had ever stopped me from doing what I wanted.
I had never stayed in one city, state, or country for long. I had always been jumping from one place to another, to live the life I had always dreamt of.
It was long ago when I had escaped from the burdens and obligations to satisfy others. And honestly, I never regretted it—not even for a single moment. I was independent, unrestricted.
I was happy with what I had become, what I had been doing, which I wouldn't have done if I had stayed back home. Now, after several years of commitment and hardcore efforts, I had gained success and mental peace. I had become a certified water sports trainer, rock climber, paraglider, and many more. In short, I have been living an extraordinary life.
Skipping college helped me find my true self. I did not regret not having a degree and a boring job, because I had been living on my own terms. I had been doing jobs that never stopped me from exploring the world and myself.
I live in present, never care about the future, and most definitely never dwell in the past.
Regardless of having almost everything, the only thing I wanted was more money. Because the expenses of traveling and exploring have always been high. Although I always managed in little, I could never say to additional money.
And my thirst for extra money brought me back to the land on which I hadn't set my foot in the last six years; San Francisco, my homeland.
One of my childhood friends called me back to help his friend escape from a situation. Yep, another of my profession, I help people escape from anything they want.
I loved this work the most because I was making money from some idiots on the planet, adding to that, it was fun and thrilling.
Wearing my formal outfit, I made my way into the wedding to help the groom to run away. Yep, it was the groom-to-be that wanted my help to escape.
Told ya I make money from idiots.
I shuffled through the crowd that had graced the event with their presence to witness the wedding—people that certainly had no clue they'd be heading back with the gossip of the lifetime. A smug smile slipped on my lips. These people didn't have a clue that the mastermind of the arriving buzz was walking in between them.
Whistling inaudibly, I made my way towards the groom's room, and without knocking, I barged in. I wasn't being rude or anything; I was informed to do so. Upon entering, I was met with my childhood friend Frank, who had called me for the task. He hugged me while grinning ear to ear and I embraced him cheerfully. It feels incredible to meet old friends.
We talked for a while before my eyes traveled to soon-going-to-be-runaway-groom, Joshua, who sat on the bed with his legs bouncing impatiently.
"Hey man, ready to escape?" I raised my eyebrows as I placed my hands on my waist by sliding the suit jacket aside.
"Y-Yes." Joshua's hesitant eyes and slightly trembling body exhibited the fear he had within him. Fucking pussy! If he didn't have the guts to do what he wanted then why bother doing it?
I found it annoying and couldn't keep myself from snapping. "You can't afford to be hesitant at the last minute, Joshua. Decided it now, you want out or not?"
"Hey Kian, don't be harsh on him. He's in stress and worried." I heard Frank say from behind.
My jaw clenched on its own, my gaze still on Joshua. "If you were worried then you shouldn't have taken this matter this far." Honestly, it wasn't my place to give any advice, I had never cared, but his lack of courage irked me.
I just can't stand pussies.
"Listen, I had already moved on!" His sudden outburst surprised me for a while. Man, this guy was literally trembling a while ago.
"I agreed to marry the girl my parents chose for me. But when my girlfriend told me about her pregnancy, I couldn't just—" He furiously disheveled his hair. "I just want to be with her, with my child. I no more care about my parents and the society."
I mentally rolled my eyes and bit the inside of my cheek, resisting myself to say out loud— "I don't fucking care what you do after my work is done."— but I held the urge. Poor guy was weeping. I decided to let him weep in peace.
"Whatever," I muttered. "Listen, I'm going to inspect the way out one last time. I'll be back in a minute." While turning to exit, my gaze landed on a black piece of fabric lying on the bed. Without permission, I picked it up and rolled it around my hand. "I hope you don't mind me taking your bow-tie, do you? Oh, why would you mind, you won't be wearing it anyway."
Saying that I went out—only to bump into a waiter. "Fucking hell!" I grunted when a wine glass he had been carrying spilled on me which entirely soaked my white crisp shirt, the liquid transferred the cool and tingling sensation to my skin underneath.
The waiter panicked and apologized continuously. However, being a kind soul I have always been yet never showed it to anyone, I didn't say a word to him and returned to the room.
"Do you have a spare shirt?" I asked Joshua irritatedly. Apparently, he had a t-shirt, not a formal shirt. I muttered profanities under my breath and slipped on the spare t-shirt he had. I'd probably be looking like a joker in suit pants, formal shoes, and a tee, but it was better than roaming around in a dirty shirt—or half-naked.
Once out again, I carelessly sauntered around to inspect the area, and while doing so, I absentmindedly rubbed my hand and found that the bowtie was still wrapped around my hand. I sighed. Why did I pick it up in the first place?
Shaking my head at myself, I unwrapped the tie from my hand and wrapped it around my neck, only to find out that I didn't have collars in my t-shirt. I shrugged my shoulders. Who cares about the collars when I have a neck of my own?
I began to knot it around my neck while looking down at the tie. My feet were taking me somewhere but my focus was on the bowtie when I felt someone bump into me which made me stumble a little. What's with everyone bumping into me today?
"Ugh. Don't you have eyes!" I grumbled in annoyance and the moment my gaze landed on the person that bumped into me, my jaw dropped. There stood a beautiful girl with her mouth wide open, looking at the elephant size handbag lying on the ground.
Momentarily, her gaze traveled to my face, and I swear my heart dived when I saw her deep, dark brown, fascinating orbs. The bold eyeliner she wore highlighted her eyes, making them even more gorgeous. My gaze traveled down her body on its own. I frowned when I saw her wearing a casual outfit at a wedding, which depicted her weird taste in clothes, still, I couldn't take my eyes off her curves. Alluring. I traveled my gaze back to her face and a slow, satisfying smile tugged my lips when I found her ogling me. Well, I am indeed a feast to devour.
You stupid, you were ogling her as well. I knew she caught me checking her out, so I had to come clean. I instantly smirked and crooked an eyebrow.
"Jeans and sneakers at a wedding? Not my type!"
I couldn't help it, I just loved teasing girls and flirting.
I could see her nostrils flare and her eyes turning into slits, which, I, surprisingly found amusing. I liked how her nose scrunched and her cheeks went red, probably in anger at my comment. The faint freckles around her nose didn't go unnoticed to me. I somehow liked the fact that she wore her freckles with grace.
For a second I thought she'd retort as every girl would do after being mocked, but she, surprisingly, smirked. What for? I had yet to know.
Could this girl be out of the mental asylum on a day's leave? Her choice of outfit and her response after being mocked suggested so, though. And the huge handbag she carried at a wedding as if she carried it to stuff a child inside it. Wait— Could she have been a child snatcher?! No, no, she didn't seem like one, but what if she were?
I thought she wouldn't say a word since she hadn't spoken for a while now, but she punched my ego when she opened that pretty mouth of hers.
"A bow tie over a tee? Definitely not my type!"
Alarmed and horrified, I lowered my head and hastily unwrapped the bowtie which made a fool out of me, and clenched it in my fist, hiding it from her.
And I had the nerve to comment on her outfit! Damnit! How could have I forgotten to wear my suit jacket when I changed into the t-shirt?
Clever. Wicked girl.
I narrowed my eyes and mumbled, "Whatever" before brushing past her, making sure to walk at a distance, yet my arm brushed against her, unintentionally.
I was on my way to check the escape route, but she distracted me.
Girls! That's why I had always kept myself from them. They always end up distracting you!
Flirting was the only thing I was up for. No date. No casual Fuck. Life sorted.
It's not that I would not be in a relationship. I most definitely will. Only with a girl that could fit in my lifestyle, a girl that would not confine me to one place, a girl that would not restrict me from being me. I wanted this kind of girl because I have had a bad experience with a girl who I thought would be at my side, no matter what.
I was still waiting to bump into my type of girl.
After surveying the area from where I had to take Joshua out, I went back to him. Frank had already prepared him by covering his face with a cloth and styling his hair differently.
"Coast is clear. C'mon." I exclaimed. Joshua thanked Frank for his support, then placed an envelope on the bed, probably a note to his parents. He then flung a bag on his shoulders before following me. Keeping my eyes on the surrounding, I helped him out of the corridor towards the back which was an isolated part of the venue, and stopped by the almost seven feet wall.
I had my gaze fixed on the surrounding when Joshua's frightened voice caused me to look at him. "Why are we here? How're we gonna get out? Is this your plan, to stand by the wall until anyone catches us?"
My hard gaze met his. Irritation instantly surged inside me. Just how much of a pussy he was? Couldn't he have acted bravely just for a while? I wondered if he'd marry his girlfriend or would get back here, leaving her alone at his parent's phone call. "Listen, Joshua, I am aware of what I'm doing. I took responsibility for getting you out and I will."
He silenced at my words, still, the fear in him didn't wash away. Shaking my head, I took my eyes off him and craned my neck up to inspect the height of the wall one last time before looking back at him. "Now, I am gonna need you to climb up this wall."
His expressions quickly changed into horrified ones; his mouth parted and his eyes wide. "What? This wall?" He shrieked while looking at the wall. "This is almost seven feet! How am I supposed to climb it?"
Here we go again.
"Haven't you ever jumped a wall?!" I gritted out. No more later when I said that, I heard noises. "Shit! Joshua, we do not have time. They must have found your letter! Better hurry!" I exclaimed as I jumped and grabbed the edge of the wall, however, I couldn't climb it since my dumbfuck client still had his feet rooted on the ground, looking at me in horror.
"Fuck, Joshua!" I cursed as I dropped myself on the ground. I then got behind him, lifted him to help him grab the edges. When he did, I pushed his fat ass up for him to climb easily. What had my life come to? Instead of a girl, I was shoving a dumb guy's ass up!
And as if he ever hadn't done any physical activity in his life, he failed to climb. I heard hurried footsteps rushing in our way.
"Fuck! You're gonna get us caught!" I gritted out in anger.
"I don't wanna get caught. My girlfriend is waiting for me." He cried like a child.
"Then jump!" I squeezed his ass, hard. I should have shoved my hand in between his but cheeks, though, given that how much he irked me.
Anyway, the ass squeeze caused him to jump abruptly which helped me to push him over the edge. He laid on the wall on his stomach like a potato sack. Leaving him there, I skillfully jumped on the wall and helped him down the wall.
Since I knew he could fail the plan, I grabbed his wrist and forcefully dragged him where I had parked my rented motorbike. I quickly sat on the bike with him sitting at my back and started it when I saw the glimpse of a girl sitting in a taxi, looking at me. For once, I thought I had seen her before, so, I narrowed my eyes and found the same girl who had bumped into me a while ago. What could she be doing in the taxi when a while ago she was inside the venue? Or what I had assumed about her was right? Could she have kidnapped a child and was running away?
"Kian, what are you waiting for. Drive!" Joshua's punch on my shoulder jerked me and taking my eye off her, I fled away at high speed.
I only stopped when we reached where Joshua had asked me to drop him. There, I found a girl waiting for us by taxi. Joshua jumped off the bike and rushing to the girl, he kissed the hell out of her. I rolled my eyes...lovesick pussy!
After almost five minutes he came up to me to thank me. I patted his back. "No need," I muttered. "Now go live your life the way you want. You are free now."
He smiled a little; the first smile I saw on him. "Frank will hand you over the remaining of your money as promised."
And that's exactly what I had wanted to hear. Money.
I beamed at him and after final goodbye to him, I drove off. Huh, that was one tiring work. Never had I ever came across such a case.
The next morning I had an envelope of cash in one hand—I preferred cash since it could not be traced in case there's trouble. And I had a newspaper in the other, reading the news of Joshua eloping from his own wedding to get married to someone else. What a turn of events!
And the credit for the successful escape goes to me.
