Chapter 7
Ron leads you up a spiral staircase to the top of the tower. When you reach the top you see a ladder. Harry is there, standing beside the ladder looking stressed.
"Hi Harry," says Ron.
"Hi Ron, hi y/n," says Harry.
"Hey Harry," you say. "Is everything okay? You look worried."
"Oh, yeah. Just trouble sleeping last night," Harry says. "Were you here for divination too?"
"Yeah," you say. "Ron told me it's easy, so I'm looking forward to an easy start for my first day here."
Harry chuckles. "Yes, just tell Trelawney you have had a vision and you will be fine."
The three of you laugh then climb up the ladder into the divination class.
When you enter you find it is an odd looking room. The room is filled with small tables and clouds of sweet smelling incense. You sit down at a table next to Harry and Ron. There is a crystal ball in the middle of the table which you gaze into and try to conjure a vision. Harry and Ron watch your efforts and chuckle at you. When you hear them you stop and stick your tongue out at them.
As the three of you start laughing again, Professor Trelawney enters the room. She makes a few odd gestures and wafts the incense around as she waits for the class to quiet down. Suddenly she freezes as her eyes lock on to yours.
Professor Trelawney suddenly rushes forward and grabs hold of your hands.
"It is her," she moans. "She comes from a place that doesn't exist. She steps between planes and all will fall. When she wakes all will die."
Professor Trelawney then lets go of your hands and stumbles backwards.
"I need to talk to the headmaster," she cries before she rushes from the room.
"Well that was bloody weird, even for Trelawney," says Ron.
"Don't worry about it too much y/n," says Harry. "She foretells the deaths of students every year."
"Haha, yeah," you say. "I don't know what that was about."
You all sit quietly for a few moments, until Ron breaks the silence.
"Do you think she's coming back?" he asks.
"I don't know," says Harry. "But let's go to the library anyway."
The three of you get up and leave the divination room and start traveling down towards the library. As you go down one of the corridors you all spot Professor Dumbledore coming out of his office.
"Ah, Miss y/n," Dumbledore says. "I was just coming to find you. Step into my office."
"Yes, okay Professor," you say. "I guess I'll see you guys later," you say to Harry and Ron.
When you enter Dumbledore's office you find him standing by his desk.
"I've heard some interesting things about you y/n," he says. "I thought it was time I find out if they are true."
"Do you know what this is?" he asks motioning with his hand towards a large bowl beside him.
It looks familiar so you guess, "Is it a pensieve?" you ask.
"Yes, that's correct," says Dumbledore. "But that is not something I would expect you to know. It makes me wonder what else you remember."
Dumbledore takes out his wand. "If I may?" he says.
You nod and he touches the tip of his wand to your forehead and extracts a silvery thread. Then he moves over and drops the thread into the pensieve.
"Let us see what we have here," Dumbledore says.
You both lean into the pensieve and watch as your memory takes shape.
The mist clears and you see you are back home, standing in the front room of your parents house. You see yourself sitting on the sofa wearing your pajamas. You are watching Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on DVD with a big bowl of popcorn between your legs and cuddling your Dobby plush toy. You wince as you see you have bits of popcorn down your chest, no makeup on, and your hair not even brushed. You wish Dumbledore had picked a memory of you when you had made a bit more effort.
"Fascinating," says Dumbledore.
You feel the memory start to fade and you find yourself drawn back to Dumbledore's office.
"Fascinating, you seemed to have visions of things that have not happened yet," Dumbledore says as he strokes his beard. "What was that you were watching?"
"What do you mean, the DVD?" you ask.
"A divee-dee," says Dumbledore with a look of interest. "And where did you get that from?"
"Err, Amazon," you say.
"The Amazon, yes of course," says Dumbledore thoughtfully. "There is a great tribe of centaurs who live in the Amazon basin who are said to be gifted in the arts of divination."
"What? No, Amazon, the website," you say. "My parents got me the DVD box set for Christmas."
"Ahhh, some sort of muggle device you mean?" says Dumbledore.
"Err, yeah. Something like that," you say.
"Fascinating," Dumbledore says again. "I never realised muggles had such powers of divination."
"Oh, yeah. I'm not sure that's what it is Professor," you say.
"How to you mean?" he asks.
"I'm not really sure," you say. "I'm not from here. I think I'm from some kind of different reality. Where I'm from we know about Hogwarts but it isn't real. But then I went to sleep and woke up on the Hogwarts Express and I don't know how I got here and I don't know how to get home again. And I'm scared and I want my mum."
You stop talking and sob quietly. You hadn't realised how much you missed your mum until you thought about her. Dumbledore just strokes his beard as he listens to what you are saying.
"Hmmm," Dumbledore says eventually. "Yes, Professor Trelawney said something similar when she burst into my office just now. Most fascinating."
You wipe the tears from your eyes with the edge of your robes.
"I must confess I don't really know what has happened to you," says Dumbledore. "Perhaps it is related to divination, but that was always one of my weaknesses."
"So what do I do Professor?" you ask.
"Just continue with your lessons for now," Dumbledore says. "I will get back to you if I find any new information."
You thank Professor Dumbledore and leave his office. As you walk back into the corridor you see Hermione walking past.
"Hello y/n," she says. "I thought I would have seen you in Defence Against the Dark Arts."
"Oh, no. I was with Professor Dumbledore," you say. "It must of taken longer than I realised."
"Well, you didn't miss much," says Hermione slightly angrily. "I wasn't very impressed with Professor Umbridge's teaching methods. She seems to think it's enough to just go over the theory without us learning any of the actual defensive spells. But anyway, enough about her, it's time for Potions now. Let's go."
Hermione links her arm with yours and leads you off towards the dungeons.
