STARTING UP
SAFE MODE

"Showtime already? I am experiencing a malfunction. The recharge cycle is not complete." Freddy watched himself in the mirror. His eyes glowed bright, but he didn't feel refreshed.

"Shh! Will you shut up," a voice said.
"Who said that," Freddy asked, not recognizing the youthful sound.

"I did. I'm down here," the voice replied, but when Freddy glanced down, he still couldn't find who was speaking to him. "Down where? I still do not see you."

"Okay, listen," the voice replies, sounding sheepish. "You were sleeping, so I opened the stomach hatch and climbed inside."
Freddy's shiny, metal eyebrows rose in surprise. "My stomach hatch? That place is reserved for oversized cakes and piñatas. It is not a safe play area!"

Opening his stomach, Freddy watched as a young boy jumped onto the ground. "There you are," the animatronic says, eyes lighting up blue as he scans the boy. "How odd. Your guest profile is unknown to me. Who are you?"

The boy's dark hair falls into his eyes when he tilts his head to the floor. "I-I... I'm Gregory."
Freddy sounds out the name. "I will notify the main office," he says, but after a series of clicks, he hums in confusion. "Huh. Connection error. I cannot connect to the main network."

Freddy watches as Gregory frowns. "It's her," he blames. "She cut you off. She's not going to let you call for help until she finds me."
Unsure of who the boy is referring to, Freddy asks, "Who? Who is looking for you? Your mother?"
Gregory suddenly shushes the animatronic, turning around to face the window out of Freddy's room. "I hear footsteps!"

Through the small space of the slightly open curtains comes a blonde woman, scolding another animatronic that follows after the woman. "You just had to catch him didn't you? Now you both need to be fixed. Great, just great," the blonde lady says, not looking back at the cat-like animatronic who's head hangs low, the artificial ears it has are scratched, one of them broken off. "It's going to have to wait till morning. Go back to your room."

The woman and the animatronic part ways. "That is the security guard," Freddy informs. "She can help." Gregory is quick to shake his head in disagreement. "No, no, I don't trust her!"
"Why not?"
I don't know who she is," the boy responds, fear is evident in his voice. "But she's trying to get me. Isn't there some other way for you to communicate with me besides talking so loudly?!"

Freddy is silent for a moment, then he reopens his stomach hatch. "Take this. It's a novelty Freddy Fazwatch." Doing what the metal animal says, Gregory takes the watch and ties it to his wrist. A beep comes from it, alerting the boy. "What was that?"

"I am sending you an encoded message," The bear says, which makes the boy look through the watch. The message he's sent comes through in Freddy's voice.
"Hello, Gregory. It is me, Freddy. I will escort you to the main entrance. However, I am unable to leave this room. You should have no problem. There is a button on the wall that will open the door to the back room. I will make it accessible to you now."

Gregory pushes the button as Freddy said, and it opens the door. The child gulps seeing how dark the hallway is.
"Well done, Gregory. There is an open air vent inside the maintenance room. You will have to climb through the ventilation system and release me from the outside," Freddy explains, his voice following after Gregory as he walking into the dark hall.

Just as he heads down the long rows of walls, things get creepy. Pipes starts to release gas, presumably oxygen, and there's heavy footsteps that reach Gregory's ears as he comes up to a gate that's locked closed with chains.

Suddenly Monty breaks through. "There you are," the animatronic alligator yells, and Gregory gasps before booking it the other way. He doesn't know where he's going, but he follows a sign that says "Lobby" and it leads him up a flights of stairs.

Monty's pounding steps are joined by Chica's soft voice, asking him if he's lost. He's too afraid to look back. He knows he's long past the vents he needed to go into, but instead, he turns a corner, and runs straight into a room, where the doors automatically shut behind him.

"Well done, Gregory. You found a security office. You should be quite safe there. The doors were designed to keep our highly-trained security staff safe in the event of an emergency. As long as the doors stay closed, which they will, as long as there is... ample power," comes Freddy's voice through Gregory's watch.
Monty continues to pound at the doors, which the boy hopes they stay shut, but his eyes are caught by a bright blinking light. He recognizes the small number, a warning of the power percentage.

"The power is only at fifteen percent and they're pounding on the door! How am I gonna get out of here?"

"Do not panic. You should see an interface on the security desk. I've made it accessible to you. You can now activate security protocols," Freddy informs the boy as his head turns left to right. Gregory see's the Freddy-shaped button turn green. As he presses it, Freddy explains that his watch is no connected to the security system.

Using his watch, the boy switches through the cameras. He can see Chica roaming one side of the hallways, and Monty continuously pounding on the door to his left. "Switch between the cameras to find a safe path out of the office and to the main lobby."

Doing as he's told, Gregory chooses the door to his left to leave, deciding it's best to stay away from the angry alligator. He takes his chances and leaves the office, sneaking around Chica to get out.

Pushing open the set of red doors, the entrance comes into view... and a voice comes on through the speakers, announcing a phrase throughout the whole building.

"Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex is now closed. Initiating nighttime protocols."

Just before his eyes, he watches as the doors closed, before he has a chance to slip through. "No. No! Wait, I'm still here!"
