"Gregory, I do not know what you did, but the lights are out in the Daycare! You need to find the emergency backup generators and turn them on. They are in the play structures."
A part of Gregory was ready to sass back at Freddy, because, no duh, we're the lights out, but the part of him that filled with panic was strong enough to keep him mouth clamped shut.
With wide eyes and shaky hands, he fumbled around the Security desk until he found a flashlight and clicked it on.
But it barely helped.
It lit up a small angle where it pointed, but he still was surrounded by darkness.
And with Moon-Drop hiding in the shadows, he couldn't blame himself for backing up against a wall, too afraid to move.
From what he could see, the play structures were huge: long, winding tunnels, shape to crawl through, and ropes to maneuver yourself around.
And to find five generators in the maze of plastic seemed like an impossible task. And hearing the light whispers of Moon-Drop was enough to scare him stiff.
He didn't know if he could do this. He was just a child. Yeah, he snuck into the MegaPlex in hopes of discovering secrets about the five dead children from forty years ago, but never did it occur to him he might join those kids.
This isn't how he wanted it to happen, but then again, he never planned for any of this to work. And now, with Freddy, his only friend outside locked doors, he was certainly subject to death by a weird moon-inspired flying robot.
He let his eyes close and head fall back against the wall with a deep breath, the flashlight in his hand shaky, and his legs feeling like jelly.
For a second, he just listened.
He listen to the whispers of Moon-Drop as he floated around, waiting for Gregory to step beyond the desk and snatch him up in his metal claws.
He listened to the soundless air, with the occasionally spark of electricity.
Wait.
Gregory opened his eyes.
Spark of electricity?
He shined his flashlight onto one of the multiple-leveled play structures. Though the colors and shapes were eye-catching, something else caught his attention.
A spark. A tiny spark, like a last breath of a dying spark. But with the seemingly nonexistent light that came with it, he could see a lever if he squinted hard enough.
The level was attached to a purple box.
Gregory gasped, getting his footing steady.
A generator!
Before he could convince himself otherwise, Gregory took the deepest breath and shot forward.
The line of light his flashlight gave way to was enough to get Gregory over to a stack of blocks. He hoped Moon-Drop got distracted just like Sun-Drop did.
And as he ran into a play structure, he knew he was right when Moon-Drop's mechanical voice rang out. "Rrrrrrggh... clean up! Clean up!"
Gregory flew through the play structures. His footsteps were loud but he kept an eye out, glancing over his shoulders every few seconds with each turn he took.
But he made it to the generator and wasted no time flipping the switch on it. The hums of power it made was like a relief to Gregory. Only four more to go.
He stayed for a moment, turning his flashlight off and glancing around. And, again, he caught sight of another flickering light, almost like a clue to where the next generator is.
So he followed it and turned on the second generator, then the third, then the fourth, and finally, the fifth.
He almost collapsed when all the lights came back on, illuminating the twists and turned he had to go through to get them back on.
And Moon-Drop's low and sinister voice was replaced by Sun-Drop's erratic and high one. "Rule-breaker! Rule-breaker," he shouted, once again picking Gregory up.
But this time, instead of keeping him in place, the animatronic tossed him over to the doors. "You are banned from the Daycare! Security alert! Security alert!"
And just when he thought he was safe, Gregory turned around from the doors Sun-Drop had slammed after throwing him out.
There Chica stood, with Montgomery, who charged for him.
"Gregory, jump in. We need to get out of here now," Freddy warns, getting to him before the others came. His stomach hatch opens and he pulls the boy inside.
"They have found you!"
