The Escape
Starts~
It was about 8 pm in the evening at the leafy suburb of Nyali in Mombasa town. The ocean breeze showered a cooling effect on the guests keeping the atmosphere icy cool from the humidity that Mombasa was famous for. A grand party was being hosted by a group of influential business tycoons, who had arrived from all over the world, one of them being Xavier Carlos and his family.
English Point, the hotel that was chosen by the businessmen, was extravagantly decorated with coloured spotlights hovering above and smoke bombs that let out their magic every few minutes. Hefty and well built men in black, guarded the place at every corner and assured tight security for the important guests. But who knew that danger was just lurking around them?
Xavier Carlos was dressed in a silk royal blue suit paired with his own branded XC black shoes. His perfectly styled, golden brown hair topped up his look like a cherry at the top of a cake. He walked hand in hand with his beautiful wife, Jenna Carlos who was dressed in an elegant, shimmer white V-neck dress that reached her ankles. Her butterfly printed heels and her minimal nude make up added nothing but glamor to her look. The couple were a match made in heaven, perfect for each other! They were the talk of the party, all the guests present there admired them but who knew that a group of people wanted to get them separated?
It was a beautiful love story that they shared however Xavier and Jenna's relationship was not approved by their family members which led them to elope and marry each other. Even though Xavier was in control of everything, his family was stubborn and refused to accept Jenna as the sole daughter-in-law of the Carlos Family. Hatred and anger brewed within Xavier's mother for Jenna, making life difficult for Jenna.
Half an hour into the party and the atmosphere around was hyping up; the loud music roared from the speakers surrounding the deck and some of the guests swayed on the beats on the stage while the rest conversed with each other at the bar and at the tables with their families.
"Do you not know how to treat your mother-in-law? Quickly go get a drink for me!"
Xavier's mother rebuked and ordered Jenna who quietly abided her. But before she could leave, Xavier stood by her and gave a death stare to his mother after which he pulled Jenna away to the bar counter. The bartender prepared a fancy drink while Xavier whispered to Jenna after he noticed that her mood seemed off. "Jenny" he called her by a nickname he kept for her.
"You must be exhausted right? Because you've been running all over my mind."
She blushed at his line showing her deep dimples on both sides of her cheeks. It did uplift her mood. Jenna looked into his eyes drowning in them once more like the way she did when they first had met each other. But before she could make any other move she felt a stinging sensation on her arm that soon turned into throbbing pain.
She happened to look up and saw a crazy crowd of the guests moving hither and thither in a frenzy. Xavier held her gently by her arm and saw the bruise that was created by the gunshot fired, it wasn't a deep cut but it was bleeding which freaked Xavier out. Jenna had dodged the bullet, luckily she escaped a tragic incident.
As the sea breeze blew, Jenna hissed as it hit her arm. It had left her traumatized which worried Xavier. He immediately alerted his bodyguards to protect them and his family to avoid any more accidents due to the hustle of the guests. The guests tried to evacuate the place in fear of a terrorist attack which soon led into a stampede giving the security guards to search for the culprit of the shootout. Xavier attended his injured wife and escorted her to the nearest table where he carefully checked her wound; the bullet had just passed her arm, it was a miss.
- He called for first aid and calmed a terrored Jenna down. Even though his attention was on Jenna, with the corner of his eye, he was searching all around to find any suspicious activity in order to locate the shooter. Suddenly near the staircase a woman shrieked. Xavier signaled one of his guards to check and right after a few mins the guard dragged a man who appeared to be severely injured on his leg. In his pocket was a gun which proved that he might have been the one who shot at Jenna. It confirmed Xavier's hunch; it was a planned attack on Jenna.
Someone had hired to shoot at her....but who was what Xavier was most interested in.
Another hour into the party and after the shootout, the atmosphere had heated up even as the cold night breeze blew in from the north-east direction, hugging Nyali who desperately seeked for the morning warmth. The sounds of the wailing shooter echoed in the silent English Point.
Jenna watched her husband constantly punching the writhing man, forcing him to utter the truth of his crime. She realized how important she was to him which warmed her heart up. The cops arrived at the scene and so did the medical team from the nearest hospital to treat Jenna. Xavier's family watched Xavier's never seen behavior before that shocked them to the core. Xavier pulled the shooter up on his feet, his clothes were now tattered and his legs had gone weak after the brutality Xavier had shown through his anger.
"Point now! Who hired you?" Xavier's intimidating and dangerous deep voice summoned the shooter.
The shooter immediately raised his finger and pointed in the direction of Xavier's mother, something that wasn't unexpected. Xavier left his hold on the man and turned to his mother who faced the ground, not being able to see her son's eyes. Out of shame or guilt she had gone red. This was it for Xavier, his eyes spoke it all. He and Jenna had enough of his family. He glanced once more towards his traumatized 'Jenny' with teary eyes and sighed a deep breath. The cops knew their job and arrested Xavier's pleading and crying mother but Xavier looked away towards his love and only family; his Jenna.
The party had turned out to be a horror yet the triumph of the good over the evil.
