Chapter 1
Chaos. That is the only word that I could describe the situation. People are trying to climb the iron fence that enclosed the facility; the only alternative exit is the heavily guarded glass door at the front of the building. The front door was guarded by two heavily armed guards with AK-47s and had cameras watching it 24/7.
The facility is a fifteen floored building with three rooms on each floor that are evenly spaced apart; each room was ten meters in length and width. Everything in the facility was colored white; the floors, wall, and clothing is white. I was going to run to the front door until a girl with brown hair and green eyes beat me to it; she ran at the guards, but was shot down when she was in sight. The girl's blood stained the floor a scarlet color that contrasted against the barren room.
"Sapphire", Alex yelled. Alex had pale skin and vibrant blue eyes. He wore a white t-shirt, shoes, and long pants.
"We need to get out of here", I stated in a serious tone.
"I know", Alex stated while ruffling his brown hair, "Do you have any idea."
"Actually I do."
I ran to the part of the gate that was the least guarded; people were focused on the North-West side of the gate. I ran to the North-East side of the gate and looked at the height of the gate, it was approximately four meters in height.
"Wanna give me a boost", I asked Alex. Alex cupped his hand, standing with his back towards the gate, as I walked six meters away from him. I ran as fast as I could towards him, placing my right foot into his cupped hands, and jumped with his assistance towards the gate. I grasped the edge of the gate, the metal feeling cold against my hands, and pulled myself onto the gate. I reached my right hand down enough for Alex to grab, Alex ran six meters away from the gate then ran towards me, he jumped and ran up the side of the gate a little to reach my hand. I then pulled him up onto the top of the gate as we jumped down towards the barren sand below. We ran as fast as we could towards the nearest town; Cairo, Egypt. We ran up the sand dune before sliding down, continuing the process for a couple of hours. We became dehydrated easily and didn't have anything to eat or drink.
"Let's rest for now", I huffed. It was approximately 12:00 p.m., it will be better to travel during the night.
"We need somewhere to hide", Alex huffed. There was a run-down building approximately ten meters a head of us. I stumbled as exhaustion consumed me. Alex offers his right hand, which I take with my right hand, and helped me stand as we made our way towards the building.
"We can rest in that building", Alex said. We made our way towards the building, and once we entered the building, we collapsed against the left wall. Yellow-brick building still had a roof, and a window without glass on the farthest wall. There wasn't a front door, which is why we were able to entered the building, but there wasn't any furniture. The grey-cement floor felt cold as I laid my head onto Alex's right shoulder. I am regretting my decision to wear a long-sleeved shirt with shorts and tennis shoes. I should have worn a t-shirt with flats. I felt dizzy and fatigued. I started to close my eyes as I hoped no one from the facility would find our location.
"I will take the first watch", Alex said. I slowly nodded my head as let darkness consume my vision and fall into a dreamless sleep. I wake up a couple hours later and see that Alex hasn't moved from his spot.
"You're awake", he said with a smile.
"Yup", I replied while rubbing my eyes. People say I have radiant blue eyes but I think they are exaggerating.
"How are we going to hide our tattoo", I asked. A black-ink tattoo on the side of our necks symbolized that we were residents of the facility. My tattoo said 121359. Alex's tattoo said 815716.
"You could cover yours with your black hair", Alex suggested. I moved my hair so it covered the left side of my neck.
"What about you", I asked, "You don't have any way to cover it."
"I just have to find a way to cover it when we get into the city", Alex said, "I just have to be aware of my surroundings."
Something tells me we have a rough journey ahead of us.
