Ch- 63, The Two Men In Her Life
"To the world, you may be one person.
But to me, you're my whole world!"
"Bondita! Quick!" Anirudh yelled from hall as he and Bondita's Baba waited for the ladies to come.
Rudhi was in her Nanu's arms, as always. She was so happy with him.
"Bondu, we'll get late!" Her Bab shouted too.
Bondita was in her room, just pinning her saree for one last time. She sighed as both her father and husband were yelling impatiently.
"They both are the same!" She huffed, picking up her handbag and leaving the room.
"Bondita how long are you...." Anirudh stopped midway as he saw her walking down the stairs.
He frowned, showing her the watch and she just held her ear innocently. She was wearing a beautiful yellow black saree, looking absolutely gorgeous. Her hair was left open on one of her shoulders.
"Jamai Babu! She always does this!" Her Baba rolled his eyes.
"Making innocent faces and getting away with everything!"
"I'm used to it, Baba!" Anirudh just chuckled as she giggled, walking to them.
"Come on, Bulbul! We'll sit in the car!" Baba kissed Rudhi's cheek and walked out with his little granddaughter.
"You look beautiful!" Anirudh whispered.
"You look so perfect too!" She said, holding his arm lovingly.
He was wearing a formal black suit with a white shirt. His hair were gelled and well set.
"Let's go!" He wrapped his arm around her waist, walking out of the Haveli.
As soon as they reached the entrance, Bondita quickly pushed him away. She didn't want her Baba to see them like this, afterall!
Anirudh just shook his head with a smile and held the back seat door open for her. Baba had already seated himself on the front seat with Rudhi. Anirudh too didn't want him to sit behind.
"Shall we leave?" He asked Baba, sitting beside him with a smile.
"Baa... Baa!" Rudhi laughed, clapping her hands.
Anirudh smiled at her, bending down to kiss her cheeks lovingly.
"My Mishtii!" He kissed her a few more times, rubbing his cheeks to hers.
Baba and Bondita smiled looking at them. Anirudh sat back on his seat with a smile and started to drive.
"You and Bulbul remind me of Roshu's childhood!" Baba chuckled, looking back at Bondita as she smiled back getting emotional.
"If Mishti would ever love me the way Bondita loves you, I won't need anything else to be happier!" Anirudh smiled as he drove them quickly to their destination.
.....
"I'm already proud of you!" Anirudh whispered to Bondita as they followed Baba inside the event hall.
"Pati Babu...." Bondita just whispered, looking at him.
"Come quick, Roshu!" Baba called them as the a man led them to their designated seats.
Bondita's heart was already fluttering as she sat in between her Baba and Pati Babu. It was all a different feeling for her.
"I wish Maa could have been here too!" Anirudh said, looking around.
"She too wished to. But her fever just increased by this morning." Baba told, feeling bad too.
"Okay, let's not be sad now!" He smiled quickly.
......
The programme had started soon. There were people from all over the country, a few of them renowned for their works or their contribution in the freedom struggle.
Anirudh Roy Chowdhary was one of then too. Most people knew him as a great Barrister and quite an active nationalist from Bengal. His name was addressed among all the other guests, even though he didn't expect that.
"That's just so amazing Pati Babuu!" Bondita pressed his hand excitedly as he smiled.
"Jamaai Babu, I'm so proud of you!" Baba said, looking at him happily, Rudhi still playing in his arms.
"Both my kids are soo.... I don't know what to say! It's overwhelming!" He smiled proudly.
Anirudh and Bondita just smiled at him with love.
"I'm also proud of my kid!" Anirudh whispered in her ear.
"Puchki?!" Bondita asked, looking at him.
"No! Puchki's Maa!!" He whispered again, pressing a smile on his lips.
"You're my baby too!" He said naughtily.
"Oh! Shut up!" She blushed, looking away as a welcome dance was being presented.
"MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE?!" There was an announcement and everyone looked at the center of the stage.
A middle aged man, wearing a traditional kurta and dhoti was standing with the mic.
"We've recieved a message from Gurudev Rabindranath Thakur!...." He announced.
"He wouldn't be able to pay us a visit today. He apologizes heartily from each one of you present here and has even sent self written letters for the awardees."
Bondita's smile droped as she heard the announcement. She had been so excited to meet her favourite author and take his blessings.
Anirudh too was sad, he really didn't want to miss such an amazing chance. Afterall, it was such a great achievement for Bondita.
He gently held her hand as she looked up at him with sad eyes.
"Let it be!" He pressed his lips sadly.
"It wasn't in our fate, today. We'll surely meet him someday!" He tried to pacify his own heart too.
"Hmm..." Bondita just hummed sadly, looking down.
"Roshu, don't be sad!" Her Baba patted her head lovingly.
"It's okay! We'll meet him some other time, maybe that'd be even nicer!" He smiled.
"I'm not sad!" She looked down.
"I just need a few minutes to make up my mind." She told and sat there quietly.
Anirudh and Baba just sighed, looking at each other and sat back,, letting her sink in the whole thing.
Suddenly, Rudhi had started to cry. She was probably feeling suffocating in the enclosed hall and the loud mic shrill were too harsh for her baby ears.
"Baba! Give her to me, I'll take her out!" Bondita stood up.
"No Bondita! You be here, they would call you up any time, let me go instead." Anirudh said, taking Rudhi into his arms.
"Jamai Babu, you don't have to! I'll take Bulbul out!" Baba too stood up but Anirudh shook his head.
"No Baba! You be with your daughter in her achievement. I'll be with mine!" He smiled, making their hearts flutter.
"How did I find such a man fir you?!" Baba giggled as they sat back on their seats.
Bondita just giggled and waited for her Pati Babu to come back just in time!
It was soon her turn to be called onto the stage.
Anirudh was roaming outside the hall, cradling Rudhi in his arms.
"Awle Awle Awle! Calm down my Mishtuu!" She cradled her as she continued to cry loudly.
"My Princess, calm down Shona!" He kissed her cheeks to calm her down.
Soon the baby had slept, snuggling into her Baba's chest. Anirudh gently patted her to her sleep, humming a song to her as she clutched onto his shirt tightly. Her little hands had fisted the cloth of his shirt tightly.
"MRS. BONDITA ROY CHOWDHARY! PLEASE COME ON THE STAGE!" There was an announcement and Bondita stood up, still waiting for her Oati Babu to come inside.
Anirudh had already heard the announcement as he was quite near to the hall, but he was unsure about Rudhi's sleep. She might wake up again due to the loud noise.
But still, his Bondita needed him! It was such a big day for his wife and he had to be there with her!
He just snuggled Rudhi more into his embrace and hiding her face in his coat, he entered the hall.
Bondita was on the stage by then and her face lit up as soon as she saw her Pati Babu. She smiled happily at him and he too blinked at her, smiling proudly.
Anirudh walked to Baba and sat beside him, making sure that Rudhi didn't get disturbed by his movements.
"This is so overwhelming, Jamai Babu!" Baba muttered, little tears brimming in both their eyes.
"CONGRATULATIONS BONDITA JI!" The man said on the mic.
"YOU'RE BEEN AWARDED AS THE BEST FEMALE BARRISTER ALL AROUND BENGAL!"
Bondita happily accepted the award and bowed. She glanced at her Baba and Pati Babu, tears brimming in her own eyes. She was so happy to see both of them so proud.
"HERE'S IS THE LETTER GURUDEV HAS SENT FOR YOU!" The man unfolded a sheet of paper.
"MAY I READ IT TO THE AUDIENCE?" He asked.
"Sure!" Bondita smiled.
"Okay..." He said and started reading the letter aloud.
"Beloved Bondita Maa,
Everything comes to us that belongs to us if we create the capacity to recieve it.
And thou, my child, have done it really well! It makes me proud to see the women of my own land making the country proud!
I've heard of you in some lost tales of my people. The parents who might have nurtured thou are indeed to be worshipped for such an upbringing of a daughter.
About thy life mate, He is truly a gallant. Like a Potter gives the best shape to it's clay, Your husband my dear...... Has done the same for thy potential!
The husband who accompanies thou is the truest mentor I've seen in a recent time.
May you conquer all you aspire!
Love and Blessings,
Rabindranath Tagore"
Bondita smiled proudly, tears threatening to fall down her eyes. She turned to look at her Pati Babu, and that's when she noticed his tears. He was so proud that he didn't even realise when he had started to cry.
Her Baba too, was shedding tears of happiness for his daughter. He was so proud of her and even more than that, he was happy. He was happy that he had been successful in making the right choice for her husband.
Anirudh Roy Chowdhary was the only one he would have chosen for his daughter over anyone in this whole world!
As Bondita thanked everyone, she was handed the mic.
"Just a few words for all of us, Bondita Ji!" The man requested.
"I'm so thankful for all the love and blessings! This letter has made me so overwhelmed, that I find myself at loss of words.
I would just want to say that, without the Sun, the Moon would never shine. Without Anirudh Roy Chowdhary, Bondita would never rise!
And getting such a husband, was never possible without my father. He just found me my Sun."
She said and walked down of the stage, smiling. Anirudh and Baba walked to her, smiling at her.
Bondita just hugged her Baba and looked at her Pati Babu from the edge of her eyes. She so wanted to hug him, but this wasn't the right place.
Anirudh smiled at her, cradling Rudhi in his arms.
"I'm so proud of you, My Love!" Her Baba kissed her forehead, hugging her tightly, yet again.
Anirudh held her hand, pressing it lovingly.
"I'm so proud of you, Sho... Bondita!" He smiled at her as she widened her eyes at what he was about to say.
Baba just laughed and shook his head at them. He obviously wasn't naive. He too had been married for such a long time now.
"Let's go home, quickly!" Baba said, walking ahead.
"Bulbul might get disturbed again."
Anirudh and Bondita just smiled being embarrassed and followed behind. Anirudh had clutched her hand tightly, as he wrapped his arm around his baby.
