Nova 02ㄖ The Creation of Innocence

Throughout the night, the files were compiled and arranged according to its designated location. The programmer, Mister Strauss, had created twenty seven folders ranging from the program's audio library up to the program's body meshes and default samples.

The files may be grouping themselves at their respective places like a great river that roots down through numerous tributaries but some of it's components cannot be added until the compilation were completed. Some of those files were the color scheme and physical features for her overall appearance, her voice, her music tab, and some other finishing touches that left undecided by him; the time she was created by Mister Strauss.

The next morning, Strauss woke up at his bed earlier than usual, for the reason that he can't resist to check out the program if it was done. He lunged to the restroom to prepare himself, then cooked some rice and eggs then take a quick breakfast. He speeds up all of his activities than normal so he could gone to the office to see the result.

Driving on his way at the office, his thoughts were floating on the question that the guard had left his head scrambling.

" What would be the program's name?"

He hummed while driving. "Yeah, what would be her name....."

"What would be...."

"What name could I call her..."

"Something that will make her stand out, make her remembered.."

Those thoughts never left his mind instantly; it remained until he arrived at the office.

Parking his car at the open area of the company, he turned off the engine and remained inside, he thought that he could find a name - even think of one - inside his car. Although thinking about his program's name would be best if he could seek suggestions amongst his fellow employees, he resorted in thinking it all by himself.

He opened his dashboard compartment and pulled off some pieces of papers, receipts and cards. "Hmmm... maybe I could get a good name here."

He looked at his mini journal. "Castile....Megumi.... Uh....Schizhuan... Adelaide.. No.." then he turned to the next page. "Mizki.... Jackie... Samantha.... Mmm. too common.."

He stopped and returned the journal. He then grabbed the receipts.

He looked to the receipt of a food establishment. "Hannah.. Err.. No." then moved onto the next.

"Arizona....." then he lulled, then continued, "Nah. Its already a state. I may be sued."

He came across a lodging ticket. "Shankara....." then he threw the paper. "Just..no." followed by a sigh.

Second to the last of the receipts, he glanced at the bookstore receipt. "Mel- nah..not even gonna try." then looked for the last piece which was an auto repair receipt. "Shai- Geez.. Why would I... Its quite common and sassy. It's not the right name, 'she' is not sassy, she is simple."

Strauss gave up and returned the papers and stuff the car's compartment. He grabs his slate gray suitcase and his Alice blue colored coat then went out of his car. He lifted his head up and slowly looked at the clouds. Afterwards, he walked towards the building.

Approaching the main entrance, he was greeted by the female guard that was stationed there.

She bowed don a bit. "Good morning Sir Strauss!"

He smiled back at her and make his way up using the wooden staircase to the right of the lobby.

Opening the door, he paced seven steps and turned right to where his workplace situated, and to where his thoughts were currently hovering the entire morning.

Before Strauss could sat at his chair, he quickly noticed the square note that was posted at the monitor of his computer. His face frowned in confusion and pulled off the note.

"Hm... Out of order. Do not touch." he mumbled word per word.

He turned his sight at the computer system unit that was under the desk and found the lights of it were on. Afterwards, he turned on the monitor of the screen and found that the program had been completed in compiling.

He quickly sat down and clicked the few remaining prompts to finish the setup.

After clicking the 'Finish Setup' button, a folder named 'File1' and an icon labeled 'Program1.exe' both appeared at the right side of the desktop.

Still his head searching for the perfect name, still don't know what to put, he left those names for the meantime.

He made a blank stare at the monitor. "Maybe I could get it soon. I'll just wait till the end of the day."

He knows that if he can't pick a name wisely — or even mistyped or adding unnecessary symbols — the entire program will be back at square one. It signals Strauss then to recompile all the data and stuff that he had waited nights to complete even if the tiniest problem was putting the program's name.

Lunchtime strikes the clock and still - like his stomach was empty - can't think of a good name.

He was at the canteen at the sixth floor, seated separately from the rest while eating.

He looked at the cabbage roll he had. Still it doesn't help. He turned his sight at the signs, still nothing came at his mind.

He bit a slice of the cabbage roll. "I never knew this would be a big pain at me. Its just a name and it makes my head gone nuts in finding the right one."

Before he could leave, Strauss noticed Synca entering the canteen. He thought that she could shed a light at his problem. When Synca turned holding her tray to find a good spot, Strauss waived his hands.

The guard noticed him and went towards his place.

Synca looked at Strauss. "Sir, is there a problem? As far as I can see at your face.... it seems to me you have one."

Synca sat down while Strauss was speaking. "I do have one."

"Was that personal or something or about that cabbage roll you have there."

He tapped his spoon lightly against the mono block white table three times. "Its not there..."

"Then what bothers you Sir Strauss?"

"It's about the program..."

"Ah. Was the program got problems. Did it failed to be completed? Glitched? Restarted or -"

He shook his head. "Not even on those. It's about her name."

Synca stopped drinking water, the time she had heard Strauss' problem. She puts down her tumbler.

"Well, why does it take you that stress to think of a name. I mean, some of the famous names were actually crappy and unplanned and yet they did pulled off a great market."

"I know about that."

Synca pointed Strauss' phone that was resting next to his tray. "Like that phone. The programmers named their software weirdly like strawberry cookies, jelly, net beans, espresso, apple, and all the foods and stuff they could find."

Strauss took a bite of his cabbage roll. He took his time to chew and swallow before he could drop his side.

"Yeah. I know that also but..." He bit the fork for two seconds, then placed it down while looking at the blank white wall. "....my program can sing. I can't call her crappy names or some food stuff like jerky - just no. First, it's terrible. Second, it sucks to call you by a food name especially when the food was not that well known. Finally, I ain't a food lover that much so yeah. I made my hard ways to do simple things too complicated."

Synca smiled. "Well then, congratulations Sir Strauss! You did put yourself to a pit hole of what we call 'creator's block'."

He sighed. "Thank you. At least someone appreciated my epic idiocy at some cornerstones of what we call 'life'."

"But Sir, on some serious talk, why wont you use some ordinary names."

"Because my program was no ordinary...."

"Ah... Yeah. Why. I didn't think if that? Hm.."

Strauss made a faint laugh. "Its okay Synca. We sometimes don't know each other and the mind set of other persons here so its fine. I know some things that you don't and vice versa."

Synca's phone suddenly rang from her pant's pocket. "Sir, excuse me for a while. I have a call."

Strauss nodded and continued to finish his meal.

Synca pulled the phone. "Oh. Its my sister." then she held close the phone to her right ear. "Hello? ....... Uh.. Okay...... Did you get the package I sent there last week? It has a red tape at the corners...... " then she waits for the response. "Good then... See you soon and take care... Bye!" then the call ended.

While she was putting back her phone at her pocket, Strauss asked, "Was that your daughter?"

"Yes Sir Strauss, she was my second child."

"Her name?"

"Guzzel."

"Is she an Asian descendant or what..."

"I don't know where her father get that name, I—"

Strauss face became confused. "You are not the one who named your child?"

"Yeah. I was in Svalbard when my husband take her to get the childs papers at the census. Since using any device was prohibited to the guards except the facilitators, I didn't have the say to name our child. Ah.. That guy. If I knew that my daughter's name would sound like a barbarian-ish I should have slap him hard."

"Oh... Did you think of changing it?"

Synca shook her head. "Nah. The expense for changing a name will cost me a fortune. Ten thousand Euros per letter. Even my salary for the next three years wont cover that costs for the name I want."

Strauss became interested. "If you can rename your daughter, what would you like to be her name?"

Just in time that she was done at her food, she stands up and said, "Marika Sharsiqua."

He hummed low. "That was a strange name yet it's beautiful. Now I know why you're just wishing that was her supposed name and not Guzzel."

"Yeah." said Synca then she starts walking towards the dishwasher area with the tray, Strauss was following behind her. "Changing Guzzel to that would cost me a hundred fifty thousand Euros of fortune."

"Indeed." He said, placing down his tray after Syncas'.

After that conversation, a spark suddenly striked Strauss, he could use that name to his program - only the first name for the reason that he wanted it to be short and snappy.

Holding his fist and a new name at his program, he quickly gone back at his work desk and started to rename the program. Since he was confident of his typing skills, he just stroked some of the letters at the keyboard while smiling back at Sushmita, where in that instance was just behind Strauss's work place.

Before he could return his glance at his business, he pressed 'Enter' and the compilation had undergone. The smile that he casted on his face quickly turned to shock when he mistyped the name. Then he points his looks at the keyboard and found more to his headaches — he used a different keyboard — it was outdated and broke.

He stands up onto his chair and clapped his hands lightly while glancing along the entire work area. "Okay. Okay. Whose genius had stolen my keyboard..." then looks further at the work desks. "You already won. Please return my stuff right now."

Miss Sushmita called his attention. "Psst.. Strauss." he looked at her, she points her finger at a particular cubicle then continued. "He has it."

After that, a giggling sound was heard.

"Eizen! You moron!" then he went to get his keyboard. "C'mon, come on. Give that!"

While the Strauss and his friend was settling their things, the program had started to append itself after all those times the program undergone. As the files restructuring themselves, a new life was given through the pixels and binaries. The new program that was given an 'accidentally wrong name' has her way to be awaken to the new world.

While suspended at the pool of numbers and digital strings, she materialized from nothing — from numbers into a face, from silence into a voice. With her new 'mistyped name' and a face and voice as pristine as the ocean, her journey had begun onto both realms — at her world and at her creators. Her name was MAIKA.
