Chapter 67

"Do it." Pavlovaki said as he stepped to the side, revealing the lit up computer behind him. We were alone in a dimly lit room with nothing but tension piercing the air between us. I stared at the empty white screen as I clenched my jaw.

"It's either the Vino's security mainframe, or your mothers head. Your choice." Pavlovski said in a deadly tone as he raised an eyebrow and placed his hands behind his back.

I took a deep breath as I slowly walked towards the chair, gripping the back of it and scraping it against the floor loudly before sitting in it.

I stared at the screen, making Pavlovski clear his throat impatiently before I hesitantly lifted my hands and began typing the code I created for the Vinos.

I rapidly typed my code into the small black box that appeared on the screen as he eyed me carefully behind my back. I awkwardly worked in silence as Pavlovski watched my every move.

After a few minutes, the small black window began rapidly generating lines of code. Pavlovski leaned in beside me, his eyes scanning the window until a message popped up, halting everything.

ERROR 404

"What is this?" Pavlovski said as his eyebrows furrowed.

"What does it look like?" I said with boredom in my tone.

"I know what Error 404 is, but why is it here you fucking smart ass?" Pavlovski scowled with annoyance in his tone.

"After your attack during the ball, I updated their security software to scramble the firewall every .14 seconds." I explained.

"So if you don't crack the entire firewall within a fifteenth of a second, it resets?" Pavlovski said as he raised his eyebrow.

"Yup." I said before crossing my arms in front of my chest.

"Well you created it, so you can hack it." He said impatiently as he clenched his jaw.

"Well, it's a bit more complicated than that." I said as I stared blankly at the screen.

"I wasn't technically apart of the Vino mafia, I was more of a freelancer. I work for them for a year, then my contract is over." I said, reminiscing on the deal I made that changed my life forever.

"So? Your point?" Pavlovski said quickly, grimacing as soon the word Vino left my lips.

"Dante is the only one with complete control over the security mainframe, and he's the only one who can give me access. That way when I inevitably left, I didn't have any of their sensitive information." I lied. I sighed as I looked over at Pavlovski, who was eyeing my carefully.

Pavlovski quickly gripped my hair, grabbing it at the roots. He tilted my head, forcing our eyes to meet.

"For your mothers sake, I hope you can figure it out." He said in a deadly tone, making me inhale sharply as my lips pursed into a hard line. His face was stoic, but his wide eyes told a different tale. Behind his hazel irises held... uneasy. His breathing was sporadic, betraying his calm and collected demeanor.

"Why? Why are you so desperate to get in?" I said calmly as I looked up at him.

Pavlovski clenched his jaw before roughly shoving my head, making my neck snap to the side. I looked down at the floor as he took a deep breath above me.

"So I can finally kill that fucking family once and for all. I thought I made that clear." He said as he narrowed his eyes.

"But why? What did they do to you that made you despise them this much?" I said curiously.

"They stuck their nose where it didn't belong, and now they're suffering the consequences of their actions." Pavlovski stated before he clenched his jaw.

"Now get to work." He said under his breath as he turned around. I watched as he walked towards a chair in the corner of the room. He gripped it tightly before dragging it across the floor, filling the air with the sound of metal scraping against the concrete beneath it.

He situated the chair behind me, giving him a direct line of sight to the screen. He gracefully sat down, crossing his legs as he leaned back at stared at me.

I sighed before I turned my attention back to the screen in front of me. I began typing once more, hoping that I wasn't just delaying the inevitable.

DANTE VINO POV

My fingers intertwined within my hair, pulling at the roots as stress overcame me once more. My breathing was shaky, and my thoughts were racing.

I did this.

I let her go.

The only woman I've ever loved... gone.

I let that motherfucker get to her.

What could he be doing to her?

Is she scared?

Is she hurt?

Is she even alive?

The door to my office opened, making my head jolt up to see who would dare intrude on my pity party.

"Hey." Isa said as she walked into the room, Natalia not far behind.

"Do you have anything." I asked as I looked up at them and ran a hand through my hair.

"No." Natalia said as she looked down at me with her eyebrows furrowed.

"Then why the fuck are you in here?" I snapped as I slammed my hands on the desk in front of me and jolted out of my seat.

"We came in here to check on you, dear brother." Isa said sternly as she raised her eyebrow at me.

I looked at the line of stitches that now adorned her eye before taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm my nerves.

"Why? I'm not the one who Pavlovski has." I said before clenching my jaw in frustration. "I should have never let her go through with this!" I screamed as I gripped the chair in front of me and threw it at the wall, making it shatter upon impact. The twins remained unfazed as they watched the debris fall to the floor.

"Dante." Natalia said calmly as she walked over to me. "She's only been gone for two days. We'll find her." She said in a reassuring tone.

"Let's focus on what we know." Isa said as she crossed her arms. "The last incoming signal was near America. We know that the Russians have a history in this country, especially in the East coast." She said as she thought out loud. I furrowed my eyebrows as I opened the laptop in front of me.

"Pavlovski went underground as soon we killed his younger brother, Luka in New York...." I said as I furrowed my eyebrows. "We always thought he went back to Russia, but what if he stayed there?" I said as I looked at my sisters with a serious expression.

"BOSS!" I heard Damon yell from the hallway before the door burst open. He quickly walked into the office with Giana following closely behind him.

"What is it? Did her tracker come back online?" I asked with urgency as he placed the laptop on the desk in front of me.

"Look familiar?" Damon said as he twisted the computer so I was facing the screen. I let out a small sigh of relief as the familiar phase popped up in front of me.

ERROR 404

"Someone was trying to backdoor our security system. When I ran a further analysis, this was the domain that came up. Damon said as he quickly swiveled the computer around before he began typing rapidly.

"It's her." I breathed, reminiscing on the first time we were able to track her location.

"Can you trace it?" I asked as I crossed my arms and began pacing nervously.

"Working on it." Giana said as she gently pushed Damon out of the way. I watched as my aunt furrowed her eyebrows as she typed feverishly. Tension and silence filled the room as we all watched her with anticipation.

"Got it." Giana said as she stood up quickly, making my heart sink. She turned the laptop around once more, allowing me to see the coordinates of where this bastard was hiding my love.

"Tell Stephan to get the jet ready. We're going to New York." I said seriously as I began walking out of the room.
