Chapter 66

My eyes fluttered open as I heard my door slowly unlock behind me. I furrowed my eyebrows as I quickly sat up.

I wanted to wake up in my room at the Vino estate.

I wanted to wake up and see the twins barging through the door just like they always do whenever I oversleep.

I wanted to wake up and see Dante beside me, covering his eyes with his inked hands.

But as my eyes scanned the royal room around me, the more despair I felt at the realization that this wasn't a dream.

I looked up to see an older woman enter the bedroom. Her back was hunched over, her skin sagged and wrinkled. Her long silver hair was tied neatly in a bun, and her maids outfit was ironed and pristine. Her head was low as she stared at the floor while holding a silver tray filled with different kinds of food.

I watched as she quietly entered the room, gently closed the door with her hip, and began slowly walking towards me. With shaky hands, she gently placed the tray beside me before looking up and examining my face. I looked down at her wrists and noticed the purple bruises that stained her pale skin.

"Thank you." I said as I nodded and grabbed the tray, eyeing her carefully. The woman stared at me with a blank expression on her face as she placed her wrists behind her back.

"Thank you."I repeated in Russian, making the woman's eyes go wide in surprise for a moment before she gave me a small nod.

I looked down at the food in front of me, surprised at the variety. There were pancakes, eggs, waffles, fruits, and french toast. Next to the food was OJ, water and milk. In the corner of the tray was a single red rose in a vase of water.

"Did you make all of this?" I asked the woman as I gave her a small smile. She nodded once as her eyes furrowed.

"It looks delicious. Thank you for making my breakfast." I said gently, making her features relax slightly as a small smile came to her lips.

"What's your name?" I asked before I took a bite of the toast in front of me.

She looked at me hesitantly for a moment before she walked over and slowly pointed to the rose in the vase.

"Rose?" I asked, making her nod before smiling.

"It's nice to meet you Rose, my name's Rebel." I said as I held out my hand. A frown came to my face as I noticed that she flinched immediately, closing her eyes as if she was expecting to be hit. I furrowed my eyebrows as I watched her slowly open her eyes and stare at my hand with confusion.

"I'm not going to hurt you." I said softly as I gave her a small smile. Rose slowly raised her hand up, shaking mine as she stared at me.

"He probably wants me downstairs, right?" I asked before grabbing an apple from tray and biting into it.

"When?"I asked as I slipped out of the bed and stretched my legs and walked towards the bathroom. I looked over at Rose, who held up both hands.

"10 minutes?" I asked as I tilted my head, earning a nod from my new friend.

"Got it. Thanks Rose." I said as I gave her a small smile. She smiled as she gave me a small nod, and walked out of the room.

I walked into the lavish bathroom attached to the room and turned on the sink. I ran my hands underneath the cold water before splashing it on my face, allowing the droplets to drip down my bare neck.

I knew that Pavlovski was going to take all of my belongings, in fact, I planned on it. But even though my planning anticipated that he would do this, it did feel strange to have felt the absence of the heavy metal on my skin.

Even though this was planned, I couldn't help the cloud of doubt that plagued my mind.

What if he found the tracker?

What if my device isn't transmitting anymore?

Hopefully it's still working... it shouldn't be impacted by any jammers.

But what if it is?

I should have ran more tests before I left.

I was normally confident in my work, but Pavlovski has stayed one step ahead of us this entire time. He anticipated our moves, hacked through my defenses, and executed attacks despite our best efforts at preventing it. I placed my hands on the counter before I took a deep breath as my mind began to race.

I had two options:

1) Wait a few days and see if my device transmitted my location successfully.

2) Figure out a backup plan and get the fuck out of this place.

Yeah, I'm feeling like number two is the better option here.

I walked into the closet, and looked around at the simple clothing. Everything was dull, and the neutral colored clothes were baggy and oversized. I threw on the first pair of pants I saw and paired it with a shirt. I walked to the bedroom and cautiously opened the door and scowled.

Pavlovski was standing in front of my door with his eyebrow raised. He looked down at me with a bit of surprise before he smirked.

"Perfect timing." He said before turning around and walking down the narrow hallway. "Come with me." He said as he placed his hands behind his back. I furrowed my eyebrows as I reluctantly followed behind him.

"Did you enjoy your breakfast?" He asked, not bothering to turn his head and look at me.

"Fuck you." I snapped as I crossed my arms, making him sigh loudly.

"I'll take that as a yes." He said under his breath. "Did you sleep well?" He asked, annoyance in his tone.

"Where are we going?" I asked as I raised an eyebrow, causing him to take a deep breath. We walked down a flight of stairs into a room that was filled with intimidating men and women.

"What am I even doing here?" I asked as we walked past everyone and towards a large black door in the corner of the room.

"You're here because you belong here." Pavlovski said as he opened the door. He turned around and motioned for me to walk before him.

"I don't belong here." I snapped as I walked towards him. I stopped in front of him and stared up into his hazel eyes as I scowled.

"This is your family, don't make me tell you again." Pavlovski said as his face morphed with anger.

"You will never be family to me. You're nothing to me." I said as I inched closer to him.

He grabbed my neck swiftly as his eyes widened in rage. I grabbed his wrist as he lifted me off the ground, choking me.

"Listen you little bitch." He said as he began walking through the door, lower his arm and dragging me by my neck beside him.

"You should be grateful I haven't killed you yet. You should be grateful that you're an asset to me. You should be grateful that you belong in this family." He said in a deadly tone as we continued down a dark corridor.

"You have Pavlovski blood running through your veins. You are the sole heir to the Russian Mafia. And you, will one day rise up and take control of this organization." He said as we stopped in front of a metal door. He raised me to my feet by my neck, making me face him as he stared down at me.

"So that means, you're working for me now. You're working for your family." He hissed at me as he gripped my neck tighter.

"And your first assignment is to hack into the Vino's security mainframe." Pavlovski said with a wicked smile on his face.

"What makes you think I'd help you?" I choked out as I clawed at his wrist while he reached into his pocket. He pulled out a pair of keys and shoved them into the lock on the metal door.

"I think you'll be very inclined to help." Pavlovski stated with a wicked grin as he grabbed the door handle beside him. The metal door swung open, and he tossed me into the room. I grunted as my body hit the cold concrete beneath me.

I tried to steady my breathing as I slowly looked up and examined the dark room. I gasped as my eyes landed upon a bloody body on the other side of the room. Her arms were chained to the wall behind her, and her short hair was covered in dirt. Her skin was filled with bruises and dried blood. The clothes she was wearing was filthy, tattered, and ripped.

Tears streamed down my face as my mothers eyes met mine. Her face was beaten, and one of her eyes were bruised so badly that it was closed shut.

Pavlovski walked beside me and bent down as he grabbed my hair and forced me to look up at him.

"So you'll do exactly as I say, got it?" Pavlovski said as I watched my mother move slowly on the floor. I simply nodded, refusing to take my eyes off my injured mother.

"And if I see this shit again, I'll make sure that you will be the one to put a bullet between her eyes." Pavlovski said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out my bullet necklace. He tossed it on the floor in front of me, revealing my tracking device that was snapped in half.
