Chapter 60

*REBEL SIMMONS POV*

I stood there in silence as my eyes laid upon the empty wall in front of me. Silence and tension filled the ball room as Dons and Capos from all over the world just witnessed the atrocious massacre of the Vino family.

The room was so silent you could hear a pin drop. I looked around at everyone staring at our table, some had pity in their eyes while others had amusement. But most faces were adorned with a curious glare aimed towards Dante, most likely waiting to see what the Italian Don would do next.

"You." Dante growled as he walked to the older man near the stage, the same man who addressed the ballroom with a speech about peace and tranquility between Mafias.

Dante roughly grabbed the man by his jacket collar, and pulled the older gentleman towards him. I looked at him for a moment before looking around the room, scanning for one man in particular.

"Please, enlighten me. Wasn't that against this stupid fucking balls rules?" Dante hissed as he glared down at the nervous man in his hands.

"Well, u-um, technically..." I heard the man begin to stutter. "N-n-no. It wasn't." He said as he lifted his chin slightly.

"So you're telling me that Pavlovski, a fucking Don launched an attack and killed most of my family at a ball meant for peace, and that's not against the god damn fucking rules!?" Dante screamed as he pulled the man closer to him, making him flinch roughly.

"W-w-w-well you have no substantial proof that Pavlovski was behind the attack to begin with and-" He said rapidly before Dante shoved him away. I clenched my jaw as my eyes stopped on a familiar red dress in the corner of the room.

Scarlett was leaning against a pillar with a large smirk on her lips and her hands behind her back. I grabbed my steak knife from the table before I quickly got up and began walking towards her, careful to make sure that I stayed behind her line of sight.

Dante continued to scream at the man, making the ballroom erupt in whispers once more as I was a few feet away from Scarlett. I noticed the small, sleek metal gun she held behind her back. I watched as he finger slowly pulled on the drum, loading the chamber with a bullet as she continued to stare at Dante with an evil grin.

Just as Scarlett raised her hand up, I quickly stepped behind her and placed the steak knife around her neck, making her tense up.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." I whispered in her ear as she lowered her gun once more. Dante was screaming at the man now, creating a big enough scene for us to go unnoticed.

"Aw. Would you look at this? Dante's little whore came to his rescue. How romantic." Scarlett said quietly before she scoffed.

"Give me the gun." I demanded as I pressed the knife closer to her neck. My voice held no emotion, and I felt absolutely nothing. I was numb. Completely and utterly numb.

"Bossy." Scarlett said before she quickly grabbed my wrist near her neck and slipped her elbow near mine. She rotated her arm up, making my arm turn and giving her the opportunity side step out of my grip. While she was doing that, I spotted the gun in her hand and grabbed it while she freed herself.

"Wow." Scarlett said as she turned and faced me, eyeing the gun in my hands. "Didn't expect that." She said as she tilted her head. Scarlett slowly stepped backwards before giving me a smirk.

"Isn't it against the rules to kill here?" I said as I raised an eyebrow at her.

"For Dons and Capos it is. But for us, it's a bit of a grey area." She said as she raised her eyebrow.

"Good to know." I said as I stared at her and held my finger on the trigger.

"Let's take this upstairs, shall we? No need to cause a commotion." Scarlett said as she motioned to a nearby elevator.

I quickly looked over at Dante before nodding slightly. We walked calmly to the elevator as Dante threw a punch at the man in charge of the ball, making everyone gasp loudly and causing some Dons to run over to break up the fight.

We stepped into the elevator, and I looked over at her as I continued to aim the gun towards her. The elevator doors closed, and the sound of Mozarts Requiem filled the elevator. I stared at her as she clicked a button for the roof.

Is this crazy? Probably.

Is she going to try and kill me as soon as this door opens? Absolutely.

Did I have a plan? Kind of.

Is Dante going to be pissed as fuck when he finds out I'm doing this? I would be surprised if he wasn't.

The soft ding of the elevator rang out, and the doors opened to reveal the roof of the building.

Just like the entrance, large white pillars lined the edge of the roof. For the most part, the floor was barren except for a few long cables and construction equipment scattered throughout.

I looked over to see an evil smile stretch across Scarletts face. Just as the doors fully opened, she swung her leg towards my chest, and I threw both of my arms up to block the blow. I took a few steps backwards to regain my balance before she threw a jab at my face. I quickly side stepped before dodging another punch.

She turned once more before launching a roundhouse kick to my face, hitting its target and sending me to the floor. The gun flew out of my hand and slid across the roof, landing out of reach for both of us.

"Too easy." Scarlett said as she slowly walked towards me and lifted her leg up. Just as she was about to axe kick my head, I rolled out of the way, avoiding it completely before grabbing her ankle.

I used the momentum to spin on my back, and pressed my heel against the back of her knee, making her fall forward. I quickly pulled myself up before bringing my other leg up to hit her on the side of the head, making her fall to the floor.

"The fuck." Scarlett breathed as she slowly stood up and turned around. She took a deep breath as I got into a defensive position, ready for her next attack.

She grunted as she lunged towards me, throwing a straight jab at my face. I quickly pivoted my body, turning it and hitting her wrist in the process, making her miss. She used that opportunity to throw a right hook, making me duck.

I quickly threw a jab at her torso, catching her off guard before landing another blow to her ribs. She placed both of her hands on the side of my head before bringing my face to her knee, making me grunt out in pain.

I moved my right foot between her legs, and hooked it behind her left leg. I pushed her before she had the chance to knee me once more, making her fall on her ass.

She stared at me with her eyebrows furrowed before standing up slowly and adjusting her dress.

"You don't seem like just a hacker to me." Scarlett said as we began circling each other. Adrenaline rushed through me as I steadied my breathing. Not in the mood for conversation, I stood there in silence waiting for her next attack.

She rushed towards me, launching another kick to my ribs. I quickly blocked it before she bent her leg and attempted another kick to my face. I ducked and threw a jab at her rib, hearing a crack before hitting it once more. She yelled out in pain and hunched over slightly before I straightened my knees and threw a right hook to her face.

Scarlett quickly regained herself before launching a flurry of jabs towards me. She would alternate between a jab to the face, a jab to the torso, a right hook, another jab, then a left hook. I felt her knuckles graze my skin as I continued to learn her fighting pattern, narrowly dodging her attacks.

She then pivoted her body so she was in front of me. She grabbed my arm and held it over her chest before she ducked her torso down, throwing me over her back.

I landed on the roof, and felt a pain shoot up my spine. She placed her knee on my torso as she leaned forward and grabbed my face roughly. Her body weight made it difficult for me to move as she smiled down at me.

"You know." She said before she licked her bleeding lip. "You and your little boyfriend are so predictable. Who knew finding your precious safe house was so easy." She said as she reached for her thigh and pulled out a knife.

"Pavlovski said I have to bring you back alive, but alive is just... so vague, isn't it?" She said as she slowly brought the knife closer to my face.

Before she could make another move, a very large and familiar man tackled her off of me. I took a deep breath as I saw Dante holding Scarlett tightly by the neck as they rolled a few yards away from me and towards the edge.

I quickly stood up and looked around the roof. I eyed the gun towards the edge of the platform, and quickly ran towards it.

"Rebel, what the fuck!" Dante screamed as he held Scarlett down by her neck, causing her to squirm he looked up at me with his eyebrows furrowed and a deadly expression on his face.

Welp, he's pissed. I knew it.

"Might want to rethink this plan." Scarlett breathed sarcastically. "You're still technically at the ball, you can't kill me. At least here." Scarlett said as she looked up at Dante.

"Fuck you. And fuck these rules." Dante said as she held onto her neck tighter. She bucked her hips, causing him to roll to the side and giving her the opportunity to roll on top. She took the knife in her hand and held it to his neck, pressing into his skin before looking over at me.

I was bent down, reaching for the gun before Scarlett tilted her head and gave me a small smile.

"One wrong move, and I'll slit your little boyfriends neck." She said with a serious expression on her face. I took a deep breath as I looked at Dante before looking back at Scarlett.

I had one chance. One opportunity to get this right.

"I'm sorry, Dante." I whispered before quickly rolling and grabbing the gun from the floor. I held it up and shot Scarlett in between the eyes before she even had the chance to move her hand. Her body fell limp, and fell over to the side of Dante and off the buildings edge. I quickly walked over to Dante and bent down, examining his neck which had a bit of blood dripping down it, but nothing serious.

"Fuck." He said as he wrapped his arms around me and held me tightly. "Rebel, what were you thinking? Do you know what could have happened to you?" Dante said with concern lacing his voice as he squeezed me.

"I'm sorry Dante, she was going to try and kill you downstairs and I just couldn't let that happen." I said as I furrowed my eyebrows.

"It's okay. It's over." Dante said as he held me for a few moments before standing up. We looked over the edge of the building to see Scarletts bloody body paint the concrete of the ground floor.

"Let's go home... we... we need to see if anyone survived." Dante said with sadness in his voice as he looked at me and held out his hand.

I looked into his eyes before grabbing his hand and walking towards the elevator, both of us standing in silence as our minds raced.
