Chapter 4- In and Out and In Again
I should not be allowed to transcribe this when I'm tired, I just got really annoyed at everything that happened- the narrator is the most sarcastic, annoyed being ever, and the fourth wall is lying shattered on the blocky grass.
Lunya, JJ, and Sira crashed to the forest floor. All around them, strange plants grew. Trees arched and tangled above. Narrow shafts of sunlight reached the ground, dappling it with light. Jacaranda and Lunya could hear the familiar leafspeak whispers of the jungle plants.
Lunya shifted to her dragon form, half Leafwing and half Nightwing. She flew away, and JJ and Sira quickly lost sight of her in the dense canopy.
"Sira, can you portal us back?" JJ asked, a slight whiny tone in her voice.
"Yeah." Sira opened a dark portal and quickly dove through, pulling Jacaranda with her.
Once Sira and Jacaranda umbled back through to Minecraft, JJ asked, "So we're just leaving Lunya in a different world?"
"Yep." Sira shut the portal. "She'll return eventually."
Sophia came running from where she'd been playing with Floofle. "Go get her back!" Sophia instructed. JJ tapped Sophia's shoulder, freezing her in place again. Sophia let out a frustrated scream, which was, in JJ's opinion, quite the overreaction. "What the heck," Sophia remarked. "I did nothing wrong!"
"It's treason to want to get Lunya back," Jacaranda hissed.
"But I'm worried about her!" Sophia protested. Jacaranda ignored the baker's worries, and dragged her into the bakery, with Sira following. "Wait, you forgot Floofle!" Sophia yelled.
JJ and Sira both ran out to get the cat. When they got back, and Floofle was safely indoors, Jacaranda asked, "Sophia, do you promise not to try to go get Lunya?"
"Fine." Sophia pouted.
"Okay, I'll trust you, but if you betray my trust..." JJ unfroze Sophia, with a glare and a vague threat. Instead of taking advantage of her regained mobility, Sophia went afk immediately.
"You know what?" Lunya asked, probably rhetorically.
"What?" JJ inquired. Lunya neglected to answer, as she rifted to another dimension and returned as a sleek black cat with bright green eyes.
Jacaranda ignored the cat-ified person. "Sophia is afk, let's prank her!"
"Nope," Lunya meowed.
"Why not?" Jacaranda challenged.
"She's done nothing but be nice to you," Lunya hissed. "And made you cookies and cakes."
"Nah, she's too nice to justify a prank," Sira supported Lunya's argument. Whose side is she on? I thought we were being evil together, Sira!
"It could be a nice prank," JJ suggested. "Like, she comes back and she has a cookie."
"That's a gift, not a prank." Sira apparently didn't know that not all pranks are malicious.
"Don't you fill that cookie with anything-" Lunya's angry meow was cut off and replaced by more static.
"Oh no! Lunya, is the voice modulator not working?" Jacaranda's cat ears flattened down as she suddenly felt a wave of social anxiety. "Also- I hope I'm not coming across as mean. I'm trying to be playful, but I have crap social skills." Poor little meow meow, coping by insulting herself.
"Yeah, I'm the same way." Indigo tumbled down the stairs, apparently done with her nap.
JJ grinned adorably. "Hi, Indigo! I sorta had a villain arc while you were gone!"
"I get it, I'm the same way," Sira said. Lunya also gave a little cat nod of relatability. "And, it was also just more of a we prank Lunya arc," Sira continued.
"Well I also kept on freezing Sophia to keep her from helping Lunya, so for me it was a villain arc," Jacaranda argued, just digging herself further into the metaphorical hole.
"What the heck?" Indigo interjected. Lunya started making some angry meowing static sounds.
"Lunya!" JJ exclaimed, doing another pivot from evil to obsessively helpful. "Is the voice modulator not working? Should I grab a different one?" She got another necklace out of her enderchest and handed it to Lunya.
Sira opened up a code window with a perplexed look. "There's gotta be something messing with the signal."
Once Lunya swapped the modulators, she just kept staticking, and shook her head. Jacaranda handed Lunya the notebook and pencil that had been used earlier. "This'll work for now, maybe?"
Lunya had to morph back to her humanoid form in order to write, I don't know WHAT is going on!
Sophia woke up from her afk session. "I'm back!"
"Why is Lunya losing her connection?" Indigo cried.
NO IDEA, Lunya scribbles.
"What happened while I was gone?" The confused baker child asked. "Did the thing Jacaranda gave to her break?"
"She lost connection before and I gave her a voice modulator, but now it's not working. The new one doesn't work either," JJ explained, a bit excessively.
"Oh god," Sophia muttered.
"I'm gonna go check the Void, maybe something's screwy there." Sira opened a goopy portal and stepped through.
WAIT-, Lunya scrawled. INDIGO HOW ARE YOU NOT LOSING CONNECTION?
"Maybe it's sabotage for specifically Lunya?" Jacaranda suggested.
"WHAT?!" Indigo exclaimed. "Who would want to sabotage Lunya? It's not like she's destroyed the world several times." Jacaranda failed to pick up on the Rainwing's sarcasm. Lunya, however, did, and facepalmed.
YOU'RE FROM A DIFFERENT DIMENSION, Lunya wrote, still about Indigo.
Sira came back through the gooey portal, making a squelch as she closed it. "Gah! Not the bond between worlds, and the world code seems fine. I can't pin this down!" The void being poofed away, leaving a bit of slime on the floor.
"Hmm." Sophia started pacing around.
"Um, I think-" Indigo's words were replaced by static.
"Oh god dang it!" Sophia swore mildly.
OH GREAT, Lunya scribbled.
"I'm originally from Pantala, too. It's just not something I tell anyon-"JJ's voice also jumped on the static bandwagon, without her wanting it to.
There was an uncomfortable silence.
WELP, Lunya wrote.
"Am I the only one who isn't going to just static?" Sophia exclaimed.
Jacaranda let out some static noises that sounded remarkably like a string of swears. Lunya tore a few pages out from the notebook and handed them to Indigo and JJ. Sophia gave them some pencils that she found in her bag. Instead of writing or staticking, Indigo went afk.
"Sira, can you talk normal?" Sophia asked, at her wit's end. "Please tell me you can talk normal!"
Sira poked her head through a portal. "Well, my home world is long since gone. But this is new."
Sophia's eyes widened, and she smiled. "You don't static when you talk! I can understand you!"
"I'm the last piece of code from my world, but their world code is starting to glitch, small changes," Sira said. She made some incorrect assumptions and threw her own worldbuilding into the dragons' plot. As she does. It is unsure whether anybody at all, other than Sira, understands Sira's insane magic and code system.
Lunya and Indigo made some incomprehensible static noises. JJ wrote, Can somebody do a portal to Pyrrhia to see if we can speak there?
"I can't," Sophia stated the obvious. "You should try it out, though!"
Lunya and Sira both opened up portals. "Let's go!" Sira said.
"Do I follow in or do I just stay here?" Sophia asked.
"Up to you," Sira answered. JJ, Indigo, Lunya, Sira, and finally Sophia went through the portals.
They stepped out into a temperate forest at the base of a mountain range. Indigo went afk. The solution didn't seem to work, as Lunya made some angry static and Jacaranda staticked what sounded like more curse words. Lunya held up the swear jar, and JJ learned the meaning of hatred. She silently vowed to find a way to permanently destroy the jahar someday.
Lunya wrote, Pay up! Jacaranda shook her head.
"Yeah, no swears," Sira agreed with Lunya. How dare she. "A dollar a word."
"I thought it was a diamond for a swear word but okay," Sophia thought aloud.
A diamond, Lunya wrote.
"Technically, a diamond is a dollar in Minecraft currency," Sira said. The correctness of this statement is unknown. Lunya made some static that rose in pitch at the end, leading some to believe that it was meant to be a question. Jacaranda rolled her eyes and reluctantly placed a few scales, the currency of the Hives, into the jar.
"Does anyone have a translator or no?" Sophia asked, but was ignored. She gave up and just sat under a tree, listening to static from the others.
You a Hivewing/Silkwing? Lunya scribbled.
Sorta messy family history, but I'm about a quarter Silkwing, Jacaranda answered.
"Hm, let me try something," Sira said, focusing her magic into an orb of green and purple, then releasing it.
"Pretty!" Sophia exclaimed. "Try talking, you guys! I wanna see if it worked!"
"Testing," Jacaranda said tentatively. "Yay! I'm glad that's done."
"Yay!" Sira cheered. "It was a coding aging process." Nobody knew what that meant. It likely meant nothing similar to what actually was wrong.
Lunya made some more static. "Oh shoot!" Sophia said. "Why can't we understand Lunya?" Lunya sighed, statically.
"Hmm," JJ thought aloud. "Well, my speaking might only be working because I'm not as connected to my home anymore."
"Does anyone else have magic and is willing to try?" Sophia asked.
"I can try to use the Duat magic, but there's a chance it'll just explode," Jacaranda suggested.
There's Indigo, Lunya wrote.
"Maybe it's because her code is more messed up?" It was unclear who Sira was talking about, but she may have been referring to JJ's abundant glitchiness. "But the connection to a person and their world could be the issue."
"We might just have to wait for Indigo to stop being afk." Sophia shrugged. "Should we head back through the portal? Or should we stay here a little longer to see if it suddenly works?"
"I don't know. If a dragon happens by, we're all still looking like humans," Jacaranda pointed out. "If we're seen, we're toast. Literally."
Nah, the queens have strictly forbidden eating humans, Lunya scrawled.
"Yeah, but some dragons..." JJ trailed off.
Also, I'm a dragon, Lunya scribbled.
"Yeah, I can change my form, too. But Sophia's going to have a really hard time," JJ said.
"Same with me, I have wings, but I am a void being." Sira flapped her wings as she spoke.
"It's ok." Sophia half-smiled.
Sira looked around, taking inventory of who looked human. Lunya, Indigo, and Jacaranda could all transform into dragons, but Sophia and Sira herself would have to find a way to hide. Maybe the dragons could carry them.
We're in the mountains, there's a lot of villages, you can blend in, Lunya wrote, then tried speaking. "H-" Her voice cut off to static. NEARLY!
"The remote villages might not have heard of the new laws," Jacaranda said. "We should get to Sanctuary."'
I was talking about human villages, Lunya scribbled. But yes, Sanctuary is the best place.

I would like to apologise for the abundance of cringe that I wrote and then gave up on removing. So, sorry.
Bye!
