Chapter 1- The Labyrinth

Ah yes, chapter one. The one where you get yeeted headfirst into our mischief. Happy Halloween!

Lunya and Jacaranda were wandering around, chattering about everything and nothing at all. Lunya noticed a little symbol scratched into a rock face nearby. The symbol appeared to be simply an isosceles triangle, but Lunya knew the meaning. "Daedalus' sign. There's an entrance to the Labyrinth here..."

"Fascinating," Jacaranda cut in. "Let's go fight a Minotaur!"

The two teens searched for the entrance. It turned out to be a hole about five feet away from the mark, covered by foliage. It was just big enough for them to fit through. With silent nods, they went in.

After the initial entrance, the Labyrinth widened out into a maze of stone tunnels. Everything was quiet, except the footsteps of Jacaranda and Lunya themselves. Up ahead, Lunya saw something. It was like a man, but with the head of an angry bull. The Minotaur.

"CHARRRRRRRRRRRGE!" Lunya shouted, rushing at the beast. Jacaranda ran up as well, and used her katana to slash at the Minotaur, who instantly retaliated, killing Jacaranda. The Minotaur spun around, killing Lunya as well.

Lunya and Jacaranda both respawned someplace in the middle of the maze.

"That didn't work," Jacaranda pointed out. "How do we leave?"

"Uhmmmmmmmmmmmmm..." Lunya mused.

"Crap. It's a Labyrinth."

Lunya began to run in a completely random direction. She eventually hit a wall, and fell backwards. "Ouch."

Jacaranda ran after Lunya. "Wait! We need to not get separated!" Jacaranda also ran into the same wall. "Ow."

"Indigo!" Lunya shouted. "USE YOUR MAGICAL DEATH SPIT AND ANIMUS POWERS!"

"We're not calling it magical death spit!" Jacaranda retorted, in her best Queen Glory impression.

"It's official, Queen bossywings!" Lunya responded.

Suddenly, the Rainwing in a teenage human hybrid form, Indigo appeared. "Yes, we are calling it magical death spit!"

"Yes! We're calling it magical death spit," Lunya agreed. "Deathbringer, half-brother, help me out here!" The aforementioned dragon did not appear.

Indigo picked up a rock, and said, "I enchant this rock to leadeth me through maze thingy!"

"Yes! Thank you!" Lunya hugged Indigo.

"Okay, I'm here," Indigo said. "What did you two get yourselves into?"

"We're in the Labyrinth and both got killed by the Minotaur," Jacaranda said nonchalantly.

"Oh, nice. That's fun!" Indigo said, before poofing into a pile of items due to a blow from the Minotaur. She respawned about 20 feet away, in a connecting corridor.

"It automatically set our spawn here," Lunya noticed. "Yikes."

"Oops," Indigo said.

"Oh no," Jacaranda replied.

"UM," Lunya started. "YOU STILL HAVE THE ROCK?"

"Yes, I still have the rock and the exit is this way-" Indigo said, dashing in that direction. "RUN!"

Jacaranda ran behind Indigo, using her feathered wings to boost herself along to make up for her poor running stamina.

"Why'd you enchant a rock anyway?" Lunya asked, before running to catch up with the others.

"Because it was the first thing I grabbed!" Indigo retorted.

"You're just as bad as Turtle!" Jacaranda shouted.

Lunya bumped into another wall. "What!? Is this Harry Potter now?"

"I'm gonna draw a smiley face on it so I can tell it apart from all the other rocks!" Indigo declared. "And I'm gonna name it Larry and he's gonna be my BEST FRIEND!"

"Adorable, and sad," Jacaranda commented.

Lunya was running around, confused. "Okay! Now! Okay, now the wall's gone?! WHAT?"

"There's a light up ahead!" Jacaranda pointed out. "Is it the outside?"

"Don't. Jinx. It," Lunya said darkly, before passing out.

"IRL Jacaranda was jinxing it on purpose," Jacaranda chirped. "Sorry, fourth wall!"

A human child that was recognised as Sophia appeared just long enough to say, "We don't have a fourth wall rebuilder here. Don't break the fourth wall plEASE!"

Indigo was scanning the walls for something. "The mark of Daedalus should be right... HERE! Okay, there's the exit!"

Jacaranda flew towards the exit. Suddenly, she hit an invisible wall and crumpled to the floor. "OW! Force field!?"

"Um..." Indigo said.

"Hello?" Sophia said, this time from outside the Labyrinth.

"We need outside help," Indigo decided.

"I can help!" Sophia offered, smiling. "What do you need?"

"Just close the force field!" Indigo shouted.

"Okay!"

"THERE'S A MINOTAUR!" Indigo yelled.

"What in the ever loving-?" Sophia yelped.

Jacaranda sat up from where she had fallen, her wing bent at an unpleasant angle. "I think my wing is broken.... AAAAAAAAH!" The Minotaur had shown up and killed her. Jacaranda disappeared, probably respawning in the center of the Labyrinth.

"NO!" Indigo shouted.

"What is happening?" Sophia asked.

"Hold on, I'm gonna go back and get her," Indigo said.

"SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON!" The confused human yelled.

"JJ and Lunya went into the Labyrinth and got killed by Minotaur, somehow our spawnpoint was set in the middle, I went in to rescue them, and now there's a force field and we can't get out," Indigo explained, before running off to look for Jacaranda.

"I can close it, I think," Sophia said. She hunted for some way to deactivate the force field, and found a small button. She pressed it, and the invisible wall went down. "Okay, now we can get out. Where is Jacaranda, though?" Sophia stepped into the maze to look for the others.

💮

Indigo hadn't gotten very far, before she heard a ghostly sounding voice from an invisible source. "AAAAAAAAA," It sounded almost like Jacaranda.

Lunya woke up. She happened to be right by where Indigo was. "Goodness! I passed out! WHAT-"

"Keep screaming, I'm gonna follow your voice!" Indigo shouted to Jacaranda.

"JJ!" Lunya yelled.

"Don't die, it's not healthy!" Indigo explained.

"AAAAAAAA I think I'm on an alternate plane or something," Jacaranda said. "I'm standing right next to you!"

"You're in the Downside-Up!" Lunya suggested. "Or something!"

"Is everything purple?" Indigo asked.

"WHA-" Sophia asked, having just found the others.

"Is it?" Lunya asked.

"No, it's bluish," Jacaranda responded.

"That's weird! Is it like..." Lunya trailed off.

"Hmm..." Indigo hummed in confusion.

"THE RIGHTSIDE-LEFT?" Lunya asked. Then she noticed Sophia standing there. "Sorry, Sophia! I don't know what's going on either!"

"Did you by chance go through a giant pink rift?" Indigo asked Jacaranda.

"Or magenta?" Lunya added.

"No, I respawned and everything looked like this immediately," Jacaranda answered.

"I think JJ's in the Rightside-Left!" Lunya yelled.

"Oh no, not the Rightside-Left!" Indigo shouted.

"Also, you guys are glowing, from my perspective," Jacaranda noticed.

"This is bad!" Lunya threw her hands up in the air and ran around in circles. Sophia quietly stood in the corner while everyone else yelled.

"GUYS!" Jacaranda yelled, stopping Lunya's chaos. "I don't think it's the Rightside-Left." After a short silence, a scream was heard from Jacaranda, and then nothing.

"I'm gonna just head out, I guess?" Sophia said, walking towards the exit.

"If it's not the Rightside-Left, what is it?" Lunya wondered aloud.

"Just get out of the Labyrinth," Indigo told Lunya.

"Okay! We'll come back for you later, JJ!" Lunya said, before running out of the maze.

"We won't forget youuuuu!" Indigo left as well.

💮

Sophia, Indigo and Lunya had finally gotten out of the Labyrinth. The issue was, they didn't know where Jacaranda was, or how to get her back.

"What are we going to do?" Lunya panted.

"We need to figure out where JJ is first," Indigo said. "Hmmmmm. Conclusion of brainstorm session: I don't know."

Lunya joined in the brainstorming. "HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Leftside-Right."

"JJ ARE YOU IN THE LEFTSIDE-RIGHT??"

After a few moments, they heard Jacaranda. "No, I got chased by a giant scarab beetle. I think I'm in the Duat."

"I haven't read the Kane Chronicles in forever," Indigo complained. "How do we get you out- SOPHIA! NO!"

Sophia was attempting to sneak away. When Indigo shouted, she started to run.

"GET BACK HERE!" Lunya yelled.

"You're not getting away that easily!" Indigo scolded Sophia. "You're going to help us!"

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" Sophia yelled. "LEAVE ME ALONEEEEEEEEE!"

"Sophia, don't run away!" Jacaranda said.

Sophia glowed a strange green color, and stopped moving completely. "WHAT IN THE CHEEZE IS THIS!?"

Lunya stood there with a dumbfounded look on her face.

"LET ME GO!" Sophia screeched.

"Uh-" Jacaranda's voice sounded panicked. "I just tapped her on the shoulder? I don't know how to let her go."

"WHAT?" Lunya asked, and Sophia made a comically sad face.

"Tap her on the shoulder again," Indigo suggested. Sophia glowed pink and started to run super fast.

"I AM SPEED!" Sophia shouted. "YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME ALIVE!"

"Wait... can JJ control time?" Indigo wondered aloud.

"JJ, can you die?" Lunya asked. "Wow, that came out very wrong. I mean, can you die again? Maybe you'll respawn in this dimension."

"I'm having a tough time interacting with physical objects right now. So it might be tough to die, and dangerous, too." Jacaranda's voice responded, from somewhere in the air.

"Have you done it before?" Lunya asked, giving up on corralling Sophia.

"I'm going to the store for some orange juice now!" The aforementioned chaos gremlin declared.

"No, but I knew someone who saw someone die in the Duat," Jacaranda replied to Lunya, completely ignoring Sophia, who was now wandering away.

"Does anyone remember how to get out of the Duat?" Indigo asked .

"I think I remember how to get out," Jacaranda said.

"Finally," Sophia said, returning with some orange juice.

"YES!" Indigo cheered.

"I just have to get back to my physical body..." Jacaranda explained.

"I'm gonna go bake some cookies!" Sophia said, walking over to her bakery.

"SAVE ME SOME!" Lunya shouted to her.

"Well, that's a problem, because you're a pile of items in the Labyrinth right now," Indigo said, ignoring the cookie gremlins.

"There's monsters!" Jacaranda pointed out the issue with going there.

"HOW ARE YOU GOING TO GET OUT, JJ?" Lunya shouted, then had an idea. "Wait- can I-?" Lunya channeled some magic and created a rift. The rift then shifted as though something passed through it.

Sophia came back out of the bakery. "I made some cookies! I'll bring them to you all once they cool down."

"Is there any cookie dough left over?" Indigo asked.

"I think so," Sophia responded.

"Can I have some?" Indigo asked.

"Sure!" Sophia said, handing Indigo a bowl of leftover dough, which Indigo started eating.

The rift shifted again, but this time, Jacaranda visibly walked out. She was finally in a physical form again! "Hi! I'm back!"

"YAYYY!" Indigo and Lunya cheered simultaneously. Sophia didn't seem to give a frog about JJ's return.
