Ruined Ruins Pt. 1

Frisk, age eight, fell into the underground, unaware of the horrors that awaited them. They see the silhouette of a Froggit. "It's OK," they whispers to themselves, "it's just a big frog." The Froggit limps forward.

"Ribb... It..." It croaks weakly. It comes into the light. Half melted from Determination. It limps on its six decaying legs. Its face melts, but constantly repairs itself. Frisk screams. Flowey appears, with jagged teeth and a malicious smile. He kills the Froggit and takes its soul.

"In this world," Flowey smirks, "it's killed or be killed! Die!" Flowey attempts to bite Frisk, but a fireball from the shadows stops him.

"Child," a raspy voice speaks, "do not be alarmed. Come this way." A white, melting arm reaches out from the shadows, afraid, Frisk flees deeper into the ruins. As Frisk wanders through the area, then eventually, they happen to come across a turned over candy bowl. Needles filled with a red liquid are scattered across the floor. Frisk keeps moving.

A Whismir attacks them, melting slowly from its empty eye sockets, the dust carried away by its pained tears. Frisk runs, crying. Eventually getting stuck on a puzzle. They hear footsteps and hide.

A white, furry monster enters the room, melting and regenerating, withering in agony, but enduring the pain. "My child," the monster pleads, "I will not harm you. Come out, please. This is a dangerous place to be alone."

Reluctantly, Frisk comes out. "What do you want?" Frisk asks, "do you plan to take my arms and turn them into jerky?"

"My child," the monster replies, "do not be afraid. I am Toriel, keeper of the ruins, I make sure no one has fallen down here. You've been through so much. Here." Toriel extends her decaying arm, "I know a place where you'll be safe."

Frisk cowers away. "How do I know I can trust you?" They ask.

Toriel sighs. "You don't," she responds sadly, "but how do you know you can't?"

Afraid and unsure, Frisk takes Toriel's decaying hand. Toriel leads Frisk to her home. Along the way, they run into Nabstablook.

Toriel attacks him. "What are you doing?" Frisk asks, "there's no need for this!"

Toriel snaps back, "listen kid, you better learn this fast. Down here, you kill, or you get killed, and being a human paints a giant target on your back. If you kill, you'll grow stronger, if you don't, you'll die."

Frisk let's go of Toriel's hand. She turns to face them. "Frisk we don't have time for this," Toriel growls, "I can't protect you unless you trust me."

Frisk walks towards Nabstablook. They offers MERCY. Nabstablook accepts it and leaves. "What are you gonna do if he comes back?" Toriel asks, "a human can't harm a ghost! He'll kill you!"

Frisk replies kindly, "he has no reason to. Besides, I can always just make a run for it." Toriel sighs and leads Frisk to her home.

She shows Frisk their room. "This is where you'll be staying," she explains, "here you'll be safe. I'll provide for you the best I can. If you need anything, let me know." Toriel goes into the living room.

Frisk realizes they can't stay here. This isn't their home. They begin to look around. They find Toriel's diary. They read the latest entries.

"October 3rd, 201X. The underground has fallen apart. I don't see the point in going on. All the death, the endless killing, and the damn flower... Determination kills monsters, I have some in the cupboard..."

"October 7th, 201x. I can't die. No matter what happens to me, this wretched Determination won't let me. Damn it... Well, if I must live in agony, I'll make the most of it. I'll protect any humans who fall down here."

Frisk closes the diary. They ponder staying for a moment, to make Toriel feel better, but then they remember the incident with Nabstablook. If they stay, Toriel will kill anyone to protect them. Frisk walks up to Toriel...
