ISFJ isn't the most common personality type and here's why

(3/3/2020)

   CAVEAT

So I wanted to reference and cite various websites, however they were a lot harder to find than what I first thought. When I typed on the search bar "how common is extraversion," I didn't get the results that I wanted. Eleven pages and one CAPTCHA test in and the one I thought would be useful was https://www.psychologicalscience.org/news/releases/extraversion-may-be-less-common-than-we-think.html but it had no clear numbers so that was a flunk.

Here's my search list for those interested in seeing and/or helping me:

• how common is extraversion
• which is more common: judging or prospecting
• statistics on how much people act on feelings/thought
• which is more common: intuitive or observant
• the 16 Personalities test doesn't work if you don't know yourself enough

Until I comb up my sources, take everything I say with a grain of salt. A bag, if you prefer.

o-o-o

No, I'm not saying ISFJ isn't common so I wouldn't feel like a commoner.

Come to think of it, describe to yourself of what comes into mind when you think of "average person."

I'm just going say that my idea is pretty harsh. A common person in my opinion someone who is go with the flow, extroverted, indecisive, emotional, undisciplined, not responsible, low self-esteem, mentally shortsighted, wants to please their family, is just getting by, doesn't take the initiative, thinks like a broke person, judgemental, too sensitive, self-centered, controlled by addiction/s, not adaptable, can't ad lib or is terrible at it, only cares those who care about them, ungrateful, holds grudges, acts without thinking, take things for granted, regretful, and has a sickness they're fully aware of and a bunch more other sicknesses either genetic or self-induced that they're not aware of.

For the most personality type based on my knowledge and opinion, they only got one letter wrong. It's not ISFJ/Defender, it should be ESFJ/Consul.

If you don't know the difference, have the side-by-side comparison from my notes of the pros and cons of ISFJ and ESFJ.

   ISFJ/Defender
+ Supportive
Reliable and patient
Imaginative and observant
Enthusiastic
Loyal and hardworking
Good practical skills
- Humble and shy
Takes things personally
Repress their feelings
Overload themselves
Reluctant to change
Too altruistic

   ESFJ/Consul
+ Strong practical skills
Strong sense of duty
Very loyal
Sensitive and warm
Good at connecting with others
- Worried about social status
Inflexible
Reluctant to innovate or improvise
Vulnerable to criticism
Too needy
Too selfless

I don't know if you've seen some MBTI memes or not. In case you've never seen one, ISFJs are stereotyped to remember every single detail and will mention it whenever they are reminded of one. In my case, it's pretty true.

I think we can agree this isn't something a normal person could do consistently. I'm sure their friends would notice it too.

Now, why is this the most common personality type for me?

First, for (e)xtrovert, is that I was taught that extraversion is more common than introversion.

For ob(s)ervation, people are more likely to take things at face value and may not see the underlying meanings immediately.

For (f)eeling, because let's admit it, there's more feelers than thinkers in the world in general. A common person would follow their heart and not use their brain so much.

(J)udging since flexibility isn't as common as you think once you see how rigid people are with their schedule.

Then again, I could be wrong. That ESFJ is the most common personality type when it could be another letter away: ESTJ.

  ESTJ/Executive
+ Dedicated
Strong will
Direct and honest
Loyal, patient, and reliable
Enjoy creating order
Excellent organizers
- Inflexible and stubborn
Uncomfortable with unconventional situations
Judgemental
Focused on status
Difficult to relax
Difficult expressing emotions

This is my choice for the second most common personality type.

   ESFP/Entertainer
+ Bold
Original
Aesthetics and showmanship
Practical
Observant
Excellent people skills
- Sensitive
Conflict-averse
Easily bored
Poor long-term planners
Unfocused

I believe that (p)rospecting types are less common than (j)udging ones. With a one-letter change, you can already see the differences. An ESFJ is more reliable to get things done while an ESFP is more reliable on creativeness and originality.

If my educated guess is right, ESFP should be the common personality type of the Philippines. Or ideal. Since Philippines does a lot of extracurricular school activities like dancing, singing, acting, making props, postermaking, etc. during events like English-Filipino Week, Math-Science Week, etc.

The Filipino culture is also grounded on traditions of order even though we're very emotional. We're also good judges of talent since there's so many dancers and singers in the country. And the undisciplined driving. Yep. That exists.

Of course, there are countries where ESFJ is common wouldn't apply to them. Some counties have (i)ntroverts, i(n)tuitive, (t)hinkers, and/or (p)rospectors as the norm in their society.

There you have it. My opinion of what the common personality type is and why it's not ISFJ.
