Chapter 25: Is this an interrogation?
POV Helena
After I fetched Luke from the car we were brought to the packhouse, bags in hand. I can tell you, the looks on their faces when they saw us were priceless. Let's just say we aren't very welcome.
Elisa stands in the hallway as we enter. She looks me dead in the eye before walking off. I feel a pang of guilt because I used her for my own benefit. She trusted my and I abused that. I want to go after her but with Luke on my left and Eros on my right it's better to just follow the Alpha.
"You two will be watched at all times, I hope you understand this. My pack is wary of you two coming here, and also with you claiming to help us after everything you've done to us they don't quite believe your intentions are true." His voice is light as he says this leading us up the stairs with two guards behind us.
I nod my head looking at Luke, who doesn't dare to open his mouth. I lean into him and whisper in his ear. "You can go back to Richmond Hill if you don't wanna be here."
He shakes his head. "I want to help you because this is all my fault." I give him a lopsided smile.
"Luke, this will be your room with Drake as your attended guard. If there's a problem just tell Drake." Luke nods, looking meekly. He walks inside and before slamming the door he gives me an uncertain and almost scared look. He eyes Eros warily and then the door closes.
"This way." Eros says and walks on firmly. I need to fasten my step to catch up on him. "This is your room. Your old room, without the bars of course and with your old guard." He opens the door for me, looking at me with a certain look I can't place. I look over his shoulder at guard number one who I hit on the head. I give him an apologetic look as he eyes me with an unfriendly look.
I walk inside dropping my bag at the foot end of my bed. "Thanks for trusting me." I say looking around, feeling like it was yesterday I was held here.
"Don't take my friendliness for trust, because I don't trust you, yet. But first I need to know a few things before I trust you to train my members."
I lick my bodem lip and nod. "What do you want to know?" I sit myself down on the bed and Eros grabs that wooden stool from out the corner, coming to sit in front of me.
"Where have you've you been hanging out the last 3 months?" His hands are clasped together and placed underneath his chin.
"I went to Richmond Hill." I gaze into his blue orbs.
"And what did you do there?" I lift the corner of my mouth into a grin.
"Hiding from SSL and making a life there." He nods biting the inside of his cheek.
"So the hair?" He asks looking with an comical look at the red strands framing my face.
I let out a laugh, feeling amused. "I dyed and cut it because I didn't want to be recognised fast, besides, I like the color and the length." I grin at him. "Wanna know the color of my bra too?" Now he's the one who grins and lets out a cute laugh.
He ignored my question. "What life did you build up there?" I could see he was curious after this answer as he leans more in.
"Is this an interrogation?" He grins at me and I give him a lopsided smile. "But to answer your question, I worked as a waitress and Luke as a mechanic, me and Luke had a small apartment and I was actually starting to like the normal life I was living."
"A waitress, huh? That must have been a sight to see, a dangerous killing machine writing checks and carrying around orders." I grab a pillow from the bed and throw it at his head. He dodged it giving me a genuine boyish smile, making my childlike behaviour drifting to the surface. "And did anything else exciting happened there?" His curiosity again taking over.
For some reason I don't want to tell him about Andrew but the look on his face gives on he won't stop till he knows everything. "I have a boyfriend." He looks surprised, blinking rapidly.
"A... a boyfriend?" I feel myself getting uncomfortable as he looks somehow mad or is it confusing? I can't seem to read his emotions.
"Uh, yeah, I met him at the dinner I worked in. We are almost 2 months together." He takes his hands from under his chin placing them on his thighs as he leans slightly back.
"Does he know about werewolves?" Now I am the one who is surprised and is blinking rapidly.
"What do you think? Of course not! I would never pull him into this. He is such a nice man and I don't want to ruin our relationship by telling him this."
"But this is your life, you will always be involved because you know about us, if you can't tell him then it's because you're afraid he'll leave you for it." And like that we went from goofy to an uneasy tension. Who does he think he is? Why is he acting like this?
"This isn't your business!"
"I'm just saying, you lived your life killing of werewolves and living for the kill and now you want a normal life. It's crazy how you are thinking that you can ban this from your life and live a normal human life. You aren't only lying to him but also to yourself. Maybe he isn't the right person for you to be with if you can't trust your deepest darkest secrets with him."
I stand up, my rage getting the best of me. I must hold myself back to not slap him in the face. He is being mean and I don't know why since it's none of his damn business. I know it isn't right to lie to Andrew but it's for his own good. Yes everything I told him is a lie, from my family to my life before Richmond Hill but I did it to protect him because I love him.
"If that's all, you can leave!" I point at the door, the anger radiating off me. Hopefully he won't say another word about Andrew or I will lose my temper.
He stands up, coming to stand inches from my face. I can smell his minty breath as he is so close. My heart rate goes up, and my body seems on edge.
"One thing... If you lived a normal life away from SSL, then how did you know about the attack?" He looks questioningly into my eyes.
"Luke kept contact behind my back, they used him, they bribed him with false information. Information that if it were true, he would kill for. He told me the moment they told him. He's sorry and wants to help us. He is not a bad person, he was just put in a bad situation." He nods and backs away without another word but before he can walk out the door I stop him.
"Tell your members I expect them at 9 am at the training fields tomorrow. And tell them to bring their good mood." The last line is meant sarcastic and he nods again and walks out, leaving me with my thoughts about Andrew.
