Chapter 24: Trust issues

POV Helena

Arriving back in Toronto was strange. It felt like we went from the normal world back into the mythical world. And that was partly true except for the fact that this was the real, normal world. Almost all humans don't know about mythical creatures like werewolves and witches. That's just something we search for in a book. But if they would all know that those creatures actually live among us, there would probably be a World War III.

Chills run over my spine as a darkness falls over me. Luke drives slowly through the woods along the way to the packhouse. He stops the car a good distance away from the mansion.

Luke's eyes land on me. "Are you sure? They could hurt you." He looks worried. If I look at him I can't help the betrayed feelings I get although I understand his decision.

"I don't care, I need to tell them." I take of my seatbelt and step out of the car, slamming the door behind me. Luke follows my lead but I put my hand up to him. "You, stay in the car! It's not a request,  it's an order!" He sighs but climbs back into the vehicle.

I gesture to close the doors and windows before I turn around and make my way through the woods.

I hear the rushing of the wind through the trees, the sound of running water in the distance and the sweet sounds of nature. Then I hear a twig break somewhere behind me and I halt. I look over my shoulder seeing nothing. I squint my eyes trying to look for something out of the ordinary and suddenly my hunters instinct kicks in.

My eyes roam the area, my ears try to hear through the sounds of nature and my stance immediately becomes defensive. I know I'm not alone here. I can basically smell them.

Then out of the blue I'm surrounded, wolves coming from everywhere. I turn around in a circle seeing that I'm completely surrounded. I notice that one wolf in particular isn't here as there is no sign of silver fur.

The growling brings old memories of these guys back. They look feral, there eyes pitch black, teeth showing.

One steps out and turns, and like I could expect it is Eric, that no good son of bitch in his birthday suit.

"Came back to kill us, princess? Well not this time, no one is gonna stop my now from tearing you limb from limb. No childhood friend to help you know, you'll pay for what you've done!" The other wolves bark in agreement.

Before I can say anything to defend myself Eric turns and lunges at me. His paws land on my chest pushing my against the ground. I try to kick him off but my legs are caught under his. My breath quickens and sweat starts to build on my forehead as he tries to bite my head of. I push against his chest, his teeth almost touching my face, he growls attacking again. In reflex I put my arm before my face, shielding my face from his vicious teeth.

I let out a scream of pure agony as his teeth dig slightly into my forearm. Then suddenly he is being pushed off me. I look up to see who saved me and I see Eros, fully clothed standing over Eric who lays down in submission.

"I told you not to touch her!" His growl is loud and my body shivers hearing his frightening yet beautiful voice.

I grip my arm, that's bleeding. I grab the hem of my shirt and tear a piece of it, quickly wrapping it around my wound.

Then Eros stalks over to me, his eyes glowing as he looks at me. "Are you okay?" He extends his hand out to me but I get up myself, standing in front of him.

"I'm fine, nothing that I haven't dealt with before." I say reminding them of my two week residency and doctor visits.

"What are you doing here? You said you'd stay away!" His voice isn't friendly and I look briefly over his shoulder to all the wolfs baring their teeth at me. I look back to him.

"I'm here because you are in danger." He frowns at me, crossing his arms over each other. "Because I don't want to hunt anymore SSL will send in three weeks a whole group of well trained Hunters and Huntresses to kill you all. They want to finish what I started."

"Alpha, don't believe her, she's a liar. This is some sick trick to let us walk into a trap." Eric is turned in his human again, looking murderous at me.

Eros head turns to him. "I didn't ask you anything, now did I Eric. I'm the Alpha I choose what I believe. You ignored my orders and for that you will be punished. Submit to your Alpha!" His heavy voice makes shivers run down my spine. Even the other wolves take a step back lowering their heads. Eric stays standing tall looking defying at his Alpha.

"No, she just want to kill us, that's her intention. She still works for SSL and I won't-" before he can finish his sentence Eros attacks him, beating him up without to transform. He kicks him, throwing punches his way, and when Erick falls down, Eros puts his boot on his neck in a fatal position.

"Submit!"

Erick finally gives in looking the other way. Eros lets him go and turns back to me.

"Is this the truth that you are saying?" His eyes are dead serious, dangerous.

"It's the truth. You need to be prepared. Those girls, boys, men and women have all been trained to kill. They only live for the hunt. You won't stand a chance against them. And that's why I'm offering my help. I want to help you guys and do the right thing for once in my life. I will show you how we are trained and the ways we can outsmart them but you have to let me help you."

Eros is thinking, calculating what to do. He looks at his members who are awfully quiet. "You know my pack doesn't trust you."

"I know, but I want to earn there trust. I know I can't make up for what've done but I really wanna help."

Eros steps closer frowning. "Why?"

I lick my front teeth looking down. "Because I care about you. I don't want anything happening to you. Because you are still my friend."

After a long silence he finally answers. "Okey, I believe you. You must train us, telling us everything we have to know, and making sure we win against them." I nod at him.

"I know exactly what to do to help you. But first can we go get Luke, he's still in the car?"
