"She's tearing a whole group of friends apart, Eros. It's past just relationship ruining, oh no. Oh no. Now she's out for blood. How many lives will she ruin?"
"I don't know, Pan," I mutter softly. This was getting out of hand.
"This is getting out of hand, Eros."
"I know, Pan. I know."
"It'll be the next Trojan War..."
"Don't," I exclaim, "say that."
My mother would have a field day. The Olympians would have my head.
"The Olympians would have your head."
"Thank you, Pan. Thank you."
"You have to fix this--"
"I know, Pan," I exclaim.
I shut my eyes.
I sigh. "I know..."
___
"You okay, Zoe?"
"Yeah," she nods. "Fine. Great. Awesome."
"She and Ashton are fighting," Mila states, because only one of her sisters has come to visit and it's Zoe's favorite. "That's what."
"Oh," Mila's sister nods. "I heard you two were dating."
"What!? We're not dating. Who the hell told you that?"
"Mila."
"Damn, Michaela! Way to throw me under the bus!"
"What? Am I supposed to lie?"
"Yes!"
Zoe groans, letting her head fall into her arms on the table. "I don't know what's worse," she states, "Knowing Ashton hates me, or knowing Luke's always hated me."
Michaela looks between her sister and her sister's friend. "Um, I went to school with them, just like Mila," she shakes her head. "And I'm pretty sure Luke is incapable of hating anyone."
"He is."
"Except for me."
She's ignored.
"Neither can Ashton, though."
"Ashton definitely can't hate anyone. He's way too nice."
"And he likes her, Laela. Like, a lot."
"I'm sure. He's a fucking hopeless romantic," the younger girl taps her chin, "I always liked Luke with his ex," Michaela nods. "Remember, Mila? They were so cute."
"They were."
"She's prettier than me, isn't she?"
Michaela laughs as Mila snorts, "That's not the point, Zoe."
"What is the point, Mila?"
"That he never really got over her, I don't think..." She shakes her head. "And it shouldn't matter to you because you like Ashton."
"Not anymore."
"He obviously likes you."
"He thinks I like Luke."
"Excuse me? You did."
"Right," Zoe rolls her eyes hard. "Not anymore."
Zoe was over boys. She hadn't even wanted Ashton and all of a sudden she did.
She'd only had eyes for Luke and now she couldn't even be in the same room as him.
Boys, man.
Mila stares at her nails. "Sounds like you need to talk."
"To both of them," adds her sister.
"Yeah," nods Mila. "To both of them."
"Especially since your bestie's dating one of theirs," Michaela deadpans. "You're bound to run in the same circles...you'll be together whether you like it or not."
Laela made a great point.
Too bad Zoe wasn't here for it.
"That's really too bad," Zoe snorts stubbornly. "Because I'm officially over any human who classifies himself as male."
The girls laugh.
"You're so extra, Zoe."
And she can't even deny that. Maybe that was why so much random shit had to keep happening to her. Maybe it was why she'd attracted two boys who didn't want her.
Maybe it all stemmed from Zoe just being...well, Zoe.
She nods, her smile falling.
"Yeah," she says. "I know."
