Backstory
Erika is originally from New Zealand, a place that people say is a beautiful country with lots of scenery. She used to be able to see it, but not so much anymore.
When she was born, she could see just like any other child. And she enjoyed the scenery of the home around her.
At the age of six, however, she had developed a cancer in one of her eyes, and she had to get treatment for it in the hospital of course to try and get rid of it. A week after she was diagnosed with the eye cancer in that eye, it had spread to her other eye and she received treatment for such cancer.
For two years she had battled the cancer, and it was starting to get hard to see. She was considered vision impaired, because she couldn't see far away at all, and her brain was starting to not acknowledge one of her eyes.
When she was eight, she had gone to sleep like any other day, then she next day literally overnight she had been almost completely blind. She couldn't see anything. And because of this, she was very hysterically upset about it and they found that the treatment along with the cancer, had taken away her a majority of her vision.
After some tests, they found that she could see some light, but it was more shadow like. They found that her tumor had shrunk, so they saw an opportunity to remove it and she had beaten the cancer. However, by the time that the tumor had shrunk, it was too late for her eyesight that was only getting worse.
Losing her eyesight, Erika got really depressed. The once happy child she used to be was replaced by a very sad little girl who had a large adjustment learning how to live without her eyesight.
She had learned Braille, but she was reluctant against it cause she didn't want to accept her blindness. So, she wasn't very cooperative about it until her Mom had told her that she needed to accept what's happened and they had a heart to heart talk, which resulted in her being more open about it.
At ten, is when she completely lost her vision and couldn't see anything. At this point, any friends that she did have left because they couldn't handle the fact that she was going blind. And to be honest, that only made the girl more depressed and she would stay in her room by herself not wanting to go anywhere because she was afraid of being made fun of because she was different.
She went to school, but she didn't talk to anyone because she was afraid to make friends because her other friends had left her because she was now blind.
Fifteen her Father moved her and her family to Korea, where her Mother was born and she was surprisingly not too upset about it since she didn't have any connections there anymore so she didn't question it.
The large adjustment was going to a Korean school and she didn't fit in anywhere. She knew Korean since she grew up hearing it. So when someone came up to her, she didn't know what to say so she just let them talk, and she was adjusting well there.
At sixteen, she was back to being a happy and cheerful girl who had friends that she loved and she hung out with. She wasn't depressed anymore, and instead it was replaced with an extroverted person who went out of her way to make friends.
