Charles POV
"This was to be the center of the universe before I was betrayed," Apocalypse said. "Now, it will be."
He raised his hand and his eyes turned white. I glanced at my sister. Her long hair was blowing slightly in the wind. Her black and white eyes were closed, her face cast towards the ground. I gave her hand a gentle squeeze before reaching inside her mind.
"Are you alright?" I asked her.
"He betrayed us, Charles," she replied. "He was our best friend. Why would he do this? This isn't what his family would have wanted, alive or dead."
I took a deep breath. I remembered how sad (y/n) was when Erik left us in Cuba. I was left paralyzed, forcing her to take care of me even more than she did before. We had both lost a friend that day, but I felt as though (y/n) lost more. I had felt deep betrayal in her and her heart breaking.
One day, I had seen her training. She was shooting light daggers at a target. One that she and Erik had used for training when he was still around. I had sensed frustration around her as she practiced. Memories of the team and Erik were flashing through her head. Eventually, she collapsed and cried on the lawn for almost an hour. I knew I could not comfort her. She had fallen for Erik during the time that she knew him.
When we met Logan, she was fearful to see Erik again. I was worried he would hurt her again. That was part of the reason I did not want to see him again either. Sure enough, when he left and tried to kill Raven and the president, she was a mess. It took weeks for her to return to her happy self, though I could always sense the sadness inside her.
I looked back at Apocalypse to see him destroying Cairo. Buildings and cars turned to dust and gathered in the center of the city. When the dust settled, it revealed a large pyramid. I sighed. I could sense hundreds of people's pain as Apocalypse built his structure. I could feel so many people dying at his hands.
And he didn't even care.
I felt (y/n) squeeze my hand, trying to comfort me. She always knew what I was feeling. I guess that's the power of having a twin.
Apocalypse turned around and raised his hands again. A nearby rock began to turn to dust, which floated into his hands. I felt my eyes widen slightly when I recognized the form. A helmet.
"A gift," Apocalypse said to Erik, "from the past you left behind." He gave Erik the helmet. "And the future that lies ahead. You will reach down, my son, deep into the earth. Rip everything they've built from the ground. Wipe clean this world and we will lead those that survive into a better one."
"And us?" I asked. The mutants turned to face (y/n) and I. "Are we to play a role in this madness?"
"You have the most important role of all," Apocalypse stated, staring straight at me.
I felt (y/n)'s grip tighten around my shoulders. I put my hand on hers, trying to comfort her while still looking at the insane mutant before us.
"And what about (y/n)?" I questioned, feeling dread fill me. "Why is she here? She controls light, that is all. What use is she to you?"
I saw Erik look at my sister, the same question in his eyes. Apocalypse knelt in front of us.
"Your sister greatly reminds me of someone I knew before I was betrayed," he said softly, as if remembering something. "Shukura. She stayed by my side for many years. We worked to make the world the way we imagined."
I felt (y/n) get even more tense beside me.
"But why is she here?" I demanded.
"She will rule by my side, just like Shukura did."
"Never," my sister snarled. "I'd rather be dead before I help you."
"Oh, but you will help me, my dear, for you are the one who will activate the pyramid."
