Prologue

What are memories? Are they important? Of course they are, that's why I'll do anything to not have my memories erased while still doing the what I love. Stealing things.

This country, which is called Aero not South Korea anymore, is very malicious. The government erases everyone's memory at a certain age. I can't remember anything before I was ten years old. But that day, I remember clearly. The only things I remembered was that my name is Lee Duri and that I was 10 years old at the time and that I am a girl. I also remembered my family. My family was very kind to me and promised me something that I'd never forget.

We promised that we'd protect each other from what we call the mind sweepers. That was their promise that we kept very well... until today.

My sister and I were told to go steal some clothes for out parents so we went to a somewhat crowded store. "Be sure sure not to make eye contact with any employee, we can't get caught or well be done for." Doyoung, my older sister, warned me.

"Yeah, yeah. I know." I yawned, nodding. As I started packing my bag with clothes without any employees watching. With my hand in the bag, someone had grabbed my wrist. Thinking it was Doyoung, I snapped, "What is it?" That was when I looked up, realizing the face I looked at wad a boy around my age with dark brown hair and eyes. His hair was parted so bangs would cover his left eye.

"Set all those back." He ordered in a plain but stern voice.

"I don't want to. Why should I listen to you?" I rolled my eyes and yanked my hand away.

The boy smirked then let out a snicker, "You're a short girl with medium length black hair and wearing a hoodie with That's easy to go tell the employees."

I narrowed my eyes, he meant it. He really was going to tell. "Unnie, we need to go!"  I turned to Doyoung, hanging my bag on my shoulder and walking away from the boy.

"Did someone catch us?" Doyoung asked as we sped walk to the exit which was all the way across the huge ads store. Without a word, I gave her a nod. That made our walking go faster.

Though we were walking quickly, both my sister and I saw security guards chasing after us. Doyoung clicked her tongue and handed me the car keys, "Leave.  We can't both make it. I'll distract them."

I took the keys, thinking my sister meant she would distract them then leave. I didn't realize the truth until I ran out of the store and turned back just to see my sister caught and arrested by the guards. It was all over. I couldn't protect my own family. My sister was wearing the same outfit as me... short, wavy black hair, and a hoodie. Exact description. This was all that boy's fault.
