The Discovery
Author's Note: One thing you may have noticed, and this is something I really want to keep a constant factor, is that every chapter begins with "The"
Pretty interesting, right?
Zora's Domain.
Mipha sat in her chambers, bored out of her mind. The only excitement that had happened in Zora's domain recently wasn't even that exciting; a large group of Sheikah and Hylian "researchers" who began to excavate large chunks of land around the Domain. The only person they told about what they were doing was her father, King Dorephan, who neglected to share the information with her.
She had left her younger brother in the pool underneath the throne room, where he was undoubtedly entertaining himself with the river snails and crabs that dwelled in it.
One thing that was bothering her was that she had not seen Link in a while. She had last seen him three years ago- then he left for Hyrule Castle, saying he was going to be trained as a Knight, bragging that he may even get to be part of the Royal Guard. She missed him. His big, round eyes, his curious expression. She missed getting to heal him. It was disappointing that she didn't get to see him much anymore.
Was there something more to this feeling of emptiness? Was it just Link? Were we more than just friends? Maybe it-
Mipha's thoughts were cut off by an enormous rumbling, as if the ground itself was shaking. "What in the name of Hylia was that?" she said to herself, standing up from her bed, and looking out the window, towards the source of the noise, she could see a distant cliff face start to crack, until it shattered like glass, sending a cloud of rubble in its wake.
Mipha's eyes widened in shock. She had only experienced something like this once before in her lifetime, when she was very young-
A Landquake.
Mipha ran out of her room, and up the stairs into her father's throne room. He sat on his throne, overlooking the disaster unfolding in front of them.
"Father!" she shouted. "What's happening?"
"I don't know." he responded. "It might be-"
"A Landquake?" she cut him off. "We haven't had one in over thirty years...do you remember what happened last time-"
This time, it was her father who cut her off. "I don't know!" he said in an annoyed tone.
Mipha swallowed her shock. "Where is Sidon? is he alright?"
Dorephan nodded. "He remains in the pool below us as we speak."
As they both watched, nearly the entire cliff wall had dissolved into a cloud of dust and rubble, obscuring the wreckage. As the rock face stopped crumbling, the ground began to cease shaking, and suddenly, a thunderous trumpeting sound boomed from the source of the quake. Mipha raised her brow. "Do Landquake roar?" she asked. Dorephan shook his head. "I don't think this is a Landquake..." his voice trailed off.
As the dust began to settle, Mipha saw what had happened- it wasn't a Landquake at all- it was an excavation. The entire cliff had been reduced to rubble, and in its place was a massive...thing. It looked almost like a creature, but it was almost...mechanical? She shook her head, confused. Mechanical things don't exist, that's just a myth...right?"
It had four enormous legs, and a short tail attached to the rear of its bulky body, which was fronted by a large, round, almost goofy looking head that had a long, awkward nose.
She didn't notice this at first, but it was...adorable.
Hyrule Castle.
Rhoam sighed in relief as the Landquake finally ceased. As he did, however, an advisor rushed into his study.
"I have told you before..." Rhoam said in annoyance, "You must ASK before you ENTER."
"I apologize, my lord," said the advisor, bowing quickly, "But we've just received word from our excavation teams...they've found the artifacts."
"How many have they found?" Rhoam asked.
"Four, sir. Only four."
"That hardly seems like an accomplishment."
"That's the thing, sir...The artifacts, they're..."
"They're what?"
"well, they're very, very large."
Rhoam raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
The advisor swallowed. "Sources say that the largest of them is at least 40 meters in height."
Rhoam's eyes widened. "Dear Hylia..." he trailed off
"Those are the Divine Beasts."
Aaaaand that's chapter 5! Sorry it took me so long, I've been busy with college prep and stressed about other various things, this story almost left my mind. Anyways, I think this chapter turned out well, I hope you guys enjoyed it, and look forward to more!
