The Assassination
Author's note: Woah, two chapters in one day? I'm working overtime to get more chapters out concurrently, so you all better be grateful! This chapter ties directly into the previous, so get ready for more Yiga shenanigans!
Hyrule Castle, Training Yard.
Zelda swung the heavy staff through the air, grunting and shouting furiously, but it was no use. She was already beaten. With a swift move, Impa sidestepped her, and swept Zelda off her feet with a swipe of her own staff. Zelda fell to the ground, dropping her weapon.
Zelda screamed in anger. "It's no use!" she complained. "I can't beat you!"
Impa nodded. "Most people can't."
Zelda stood up, kicking her fallen weapon across the ground with tears in her eyes. "I'm just too weak! I can't do this anymore."
Impa sighed, and moved beside Zelda, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Princess...it's not all about strength." she said. "have you ever heard the story of the Bombchu and the Lynel?"
"Huh?" Zelda said between sniffles.
Impa sat Zelda down, taking a seat beside her. "Once, there was a tiny Bombchu-" Impa paused. "You do know what that is, right?"
Zelda nodded. "Yeah...the little mouse...things."
"Right." Impa continued. "This Bombchu was so much tinier than the others, that they simply walked all over him. He had no strength to stop them, and when he told them to stop, they would simply do it more."
"One day, he encountered a Lynel. This Lynel was very large and feared by the other Lynels. No one would dare oppose him... but the Bombchu did. He walked right up to the Lynel, and said, 'I'm not afraid of you.' the Lynel laughed, saying 'You will die braver than most.' The Lynel picked up the Bombchu in one hand, and swallowed him whole. This, however, was a fatal mistake on the Lynel's behalf, as from inside his stomach, the Bombchu exploded, killing the Lynel from the inside, and making his way out of the body, unscathed."
Zelda sniffed. "That's... a little violent..."
Impa chuckled. "Yeah, I guess it is. But the point I'm trying to make is that it doesn't matter how big and strong, or tiny and weak you are- anyone can win a fight, if they have the skill to."
Zelda nodded, wiping her face.
Impa picked up Zelda's staff. "Wanna try again?"
Zelda shook her head. "No thanks..."
Suddenly, there was a booming voice from behind her. "Zelda!" King Rhoam's voice sounded. Impa gasped, and quickly bowed respectfully. Rhoam approached his daughter, scowling at her. "What are you doing here?"
"I- I- I-" Zelda stammered.
"With due respect, King, I was training Zelda in combat. This is my blame."
Rhoam snapped his head to Impa. "Quiet, girl. This is not your time to speak."
Impa's eyes widened in shock. What? How could he be so mean to me...I've been nothing but respectful to him this whole time!
Rhoam turned his attention back to Zelda, grabbing her wrist. "You need to take the matter of your ancient power more seriously. Perhaps it is time that I started teaching you instead."
Zelda tugged at her father's hand desperately. "Father, no! Let me go!"
Impa watched in shock as Rhoam dragged his daughter all the way back inside the castle. She stood up, gritting her teeth. That man has no regard for anyone but himself.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps approaching from behind her. She turned around to see Stypho walking towards her. "Where have you been?" she asked him.
"Uh, nowhere?" he said timidly.
No less than a minute later, the castle alarm sounded. Impa scowled at him suspiciously, before beckoning him to follow her.
They ran into the castle, following the source of the alarm, running into Zelda and her father.
"What's going on?" Impa asked.
"I have no idea." Rhoam said, with little concern in his voice.
From their right, a guard ran towards them. "My king!" he said, bowing, "Come quickly!" Following the guard, they all hurried down the hallways of the castle, until they arrived at the queen's chambers.
Rhoam's eyes widened, realizing where they were. "No." he said, his voice breaking. "Don't tell me-"
One of the royal doctors exited the room, his head low. He looked up at the king, and shook his head. "I'm sorry, my king... there was nothing we could do."
"NO!" Rhoam shouted, pushing past the guards and doctors to get into the room. "No, not her...not my queen!"
Zelda, Impa, and Stypho remained outside as from within the room, Rhoam's cries of anguish erupted. Impa knelt down beside Zelda, putting an arm around her. Zelda looked confused. "What's going on?" she asked the doctor who had left the room.
The doctor looked down at her, gulping. "The queen... Your mother..." his voice trailed off, and Zelda's eyes widened in shock, putting the puzzle pieces together.
"She's dead."
