Or Maybe Not

My dorm was located on the far side of the Chronum campus. It was a lengthy walk, at least an hour at a leisurely pace.

I never walked the entire way. I walked about half a mile away from the school before I would magic myself to my room in said dorm. I returned to my room today as I did every other day.

I flopped down on my bed lazily and fished around below my bed for a book I had been reading earlier. Once my fingertips brushed its cover, I grabbed it. I flipped over onto my stomach and began reading the novel.

I had the amazing ability to completely lose track of time when I'm doing something I enjoy. I honestly am not sure if it's a blessing or a curse, but it happens to me often. Just ask those around me when I'm reading or solving equations.

Next thing I know, someone is knocking loudly on the front door. I quickly pushed myself off the bed and glanced over my clock. Classes had been let out ten minutes ago, but none of my dorm-mates would ever be back this early. Shrugging, I strode to the door and opened it casually.

Standing in front of me was a silver haired girl that looked far older than me. Her hair was light and strait, unlike mine, which was dark brown and curly. She was tall and thin, basically the opposite of me, and she had clear blue eyes that somewhat contrasted with my green ones.

I glanced at her uniform. White skirt, black shirt, a gray cape that reached her waist, and a white tie with a witch's hat embroidered on it. She was a witch, yet she had to at least be in high school. How strange.

"Can I help you?"

"I'm looking for a girl. Her name is Fallen or something like that. The principal told me she lived here. Do you know her?" The witch asked airily. It was way too apparent that she didn't care and didn't want to be here at all.

Did she really  just call me Fallen? I had been called that before, but those who called me that had intended for it to be an insult. This girl probably just was too lazy to actually learn my name. I wonder... Does she do this every time she meets someone new?

"Unfortunately, I do. Would you like to come in?" I asked all to politely.

Might as well make a good impression. Who knows what she could be here for?

Well, I kind of did. She definitely wasn't here to become best friends with me. I also doubted that the Mage Society, or the MS, had sent her, so she most likely wasn't here for anything really important. That didn't mean that I wasn't going to act like a decent person to whoever she was, though.

She nodded, but she wasn't looking towards me at all. Instead, she was trying to look past me to find "Fallen". She really was an idiot, wasn't she?

I stepped to the side to let her in. She walked in carelessly, bumping into me in the process. I hit the wall gently. It didn't hurt in the slightest, but most would have at least apologized.

The witch didn't. Go figure.

I walked over to the sofas in the middle of the dorm. We had dubbed the sofa area the "living room" due to the resemblance it had to one. My guest had seated herself right in the middle of a brown velvet couch. I sat on the black leather sofa opposite of it.

She looked disapprovingly at me.  "Aren't you going to get this "Fallen" person?"

I smiled lazily at her, "why bother when I'm already here?"

She was shocked. I could tell that she wanted to say something, but she couldn't seem to find the words to say it.

"What...?"

"By the way, my name isn't "Fallen". It's Fallon," I smirked. "Now then, how can I help you?"

"You've got to be kidding me!" She groaned rudely. "He be serious!"

"I don't believe that I ever got your name," I hissed, trying to not punch her.

"Tsukino." She stated. "I can't believe that Mr. Etrante sent me to a little kid!"

I knew Mr. Etrante. He was Chronum's counselor. I had seen him in the hallways once or twice. He was also in charge of assigning tutors and things like that.

Why would he send a witch that was in high school to me? Oh no... He didn't want me to tutor her, did he? With the way Tsukino was freaking out, I assumed so. Crap.

"Mr. Etrante doesn't want me to tutor you, does he?"

Please say no. Please say no. Please say no.

"He does. Something about it being beneficial for both of us, or something like that," she grumbled.

Great. I got to tutor a bratty witch that had an ego the size of Solente , which was saying something because it's an entire freaking dimension!

"Lovely. Do you have anything to support your claims, Tsukino?" Might as well check to see if she's serious or not.

She pulled an envelope out from under her cloak and tossed it to me. I stared at it for a moment before I opened it.

I glanced over the contents of the letter from the counselor, and, sadly enough, Tsukino's claims were true. Mr. Etrante wanted me to tutor her. According to him, it would do us both some good. It would improve Tsukino's grades and skills, and it was supposed to improved my social skills. She also was to stay at my dorm because I would be able to tutor her more frequently. Fun.

There was also another letter within the envelope. It was from the MS, stating how the agreed with Mr. Etrante. It also mentioned that the tutoring gig was to be treated as an assignment directly from the MS.

Hooray.

"Well?" Tsukino said impatiently.

"You weren't lying." I murmured.

She scoffed. "I know that. Anything else?"

"Other than that you and I will be seeing a lot of each other? No," I said flatly.

I hopped off the sofa I had been sitting on and pointed to the room next to mine. "That's your room. My room is right beside it. I have things to do, so you'll be on your own until the others that live here get back, which won't be for a few hours. Don't do anything too stupid."

I slid into my room, ignoring the confused witch still sitting on the sofa. I needed to think, to be alone.

I looked at the two letters in my hand. I couldn't refuse to tutor the Tsukino girl, but having a mage act as a tutor was just a bad idea. If they wanted me to take her on as an apprentice, that would be one thing, but a mage tutoring?

Not only was it comical, but it gave the other mages multiple ways to mock and insult me. Joy.

Groaning miserably, I sat down on the carpeted floor of my room.

All of this was just too much. I was already so busy. Why did everyone just assume that I had lots of spare time? It frustrated me to no end.

I was really tired, too. Maybe a nap would help.

I laid back on the ground, too lazy to get into my bed. I didn't bother to removed my simple black-framed glasses. I closed my eyes and relaxed.

I'd ask Feuer about this tutoring junk when she got back. She'd know what to do, right?

~X~

For those who are wondering, here are what the uniforms for the different ranks are. Shout out to @Lazylyss for drawing these up for me. Also, the mage uniform varies from mage to mage. Fallon's looks far different, and she rarely ever wears it. I'll post her normal outfit and uniform at some point, but here are the uniforms!
