Epilogue
Rey walked around Luke's old house. It wasn't much but it was enough. Sand had gotten everywhere through the days from sand storms to droughts. She walked through the sand without a problem, she was used to it by now. She held a tightly wrapped leather package. They held Anakin and Leia's lightsabers and she was trying to figure out where she would leave them. It was time to put them to rest.
She walked into a room and spotted a trunk. With a soft smile,s he walked over to it. It had a lock on the base of it, but the key was sitting in the sand, half buried, besides it. She unlocked it and was glad to find no sand had found its way into the chest. It would be the perfect place for the lightsabers. She placed both of them inside the chest, not wanting to go through whatever was inside. Then, she closed it, locking it tight with the key and setting the golden piece off to the side. She placed her hands on the top of the wood chest, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. Then, she called on the force, forcing the chest down deep into the sand. She sent it down as far as it could go until she could no longer feel the Skywalker presence from the artifacts.
Standing up from the sand, she grabbed the key and looked over to the window. If there had been glass in the round hole, it was long gone now. She wound up and threw the key as hard as she could. Then, she call on the Force, pushing it as far away as it would go. No more wars would be started over Anakin's lightsaber. The world would be at peace until another person decided to challenge fate.
Suddenly, BB-8 furiously beeped from outside the room. Rey turned to him and found him rapidly jutting his head to her right. She quickly jogged after him when he disappeared, following him out of the underground home. She poked her head out of the ditch before totally getting out and slightly smiled.
"It's alright BB," she told him, patting the top of his head as she pulled herself back onto flat ground. Rey could see what he was looking at, an older woman was hobbling her way over to the AT-AT walker, her large, furry buffalo like creature following closely behind.
The woman must have spotted her because she squinted her eyes to see her better.
"There hasn't been anyone for so long," she said, her voice hoarse. Rey smiled kindly to her. "Who are you?"
"Rey," she said to her.
"Rey who?"
Rey stiffened slightly, but her eyes turned to her left where something had caught her eye. To her surprise, she found Luke and Leia's Force ghost facing her, kind smiles on both of their faces. She bit her lip, watching them carefully for any direction of what to say. But someone formed next to Leia. The older woman looked up at the man who had formed and a more playful grin came to her lips as she reached up to his arm. It was Ben, looking as handsome and happy as ever. He had stopped in to say hello to her every once in a while, making sure she never felt alone. He would even have dinner, Leia and Luke not hesitating to give him more energy if he needed it to go visit her.
He grinned at her and she turned back to the woman.
"Just Rey," she said. The woman gave a nod and one last departing smile. Then, she walked away, seeming to do what she was meant to do. Rey sighed, looking down at BB-8 who looked back up at her.
"I like who I am," she said, looking back up to find all three ghosts had vanished. "I don't belong to either families."
Then, as the clouds parted to reveal the two Tatooine suns, Rey ended the long Skywalker legacy while gazing to the horizon just as Luke had once done.
