I looked around confused as to where I was. It looked like my room but I knew that wasn't possible.

I had been at a lake with my friend. He had pushed me into the lake as a joke and now I was here. Weird.

I began walking towards the door. Even though I knew it was my room I was still anxious. After all I had no memory of coming home or walking through the front door.

I left my room and headed towards the back door. Something seemed to draw me to the garden.

Light poured into the kitchen as I lay my hand on the door handle. I gently opened it and stepped into the beautiful summers day.

"Wasn't it winter?" I wondered aloud.

"It was." A gentle Scottish accent agreed. I quickly spun to the left to see the owner of the voice.

"Grandad?" I gasped.

"I told you. Don't call me grandad, it makes me feel old. Call me pal." He grinned opening his arms wide. "Come and give me a hug."

Mindlessly I obeyed. As he wrapped me in his warm embrace I tried to figure out how this had happened.

I pulled away.

"What's the matter?" He asked confused.

"Y-you died."

"Yes." He agreed. "But now I'm here. Come on I will teach you some chords on the guitar."

"No." I said. No longer confused. This wasn't my grandad it couldn't be.

"What do ya mean no? Do ya not like guitar? We can do something else?"

I stood firm. "No grandad. I'm sorry but you died when I was eight from cancer."

"I know." He said sadly. "Come on, let's go and have a nice cup of tea. We can catch up! How old are you now?"

"23." I muttered sadly.

"Wow! How time flys! Come on pal." He tried to grab my hand.

I stepped backwards swallowing down a lump in my throat.

"I'm sorry but you are not my grandad."

"Of course I am!"

"No. My grandad died. I don't know what you are but you are not him. I want to go home!"

He looked at me with an expression I could almost mistake as pride. "As you wish." He raised his hand.

"Shannon?" My best friend asked. "Are you ok? I'm sorry for pushing you in. It was just a joke."

I was sat by the lake side dripping wet and shivering, not just from the cold.

"Yeah." I reassured. "I'm ok."

"Are you sure? You look like you've been crying."

I felt my cheek with my hand and sure enough had tears drying there.

"I'm sure. I will be ok." I smiled up at him. "Race you to the car?" I stood up.

"Your on!"

As we ran, I looked back to the lake just once. I could swear that a large box had appeared in the distance....
