thirty-nine: something comforting

Shu stumbled through the castle hallways; he could hear Yuri calling for him through the echoes of his mind, through every corridor and hallway of his head, Shu would follow her voice to her. He was more overcome in fury as he ran through the blissful corridors of the Tsukinami's, through every inch of pain and suffering this dragged his heart through.

Yuri awaited for him in the dungeons beneath the earth, shackled to the wall and bleeding out every emotion swarming through her head. She hadn't the faintest idea of where they could be, Carla and Shin that was, especially since she had merely awoken to a blindfold across her eyes again. Yet, somehow, she was greatly assured they were paying her the least bit of attention at the moment. Truthfully, Yuri wished they were, since then Shu could walk the halls with great reassurance he wouldn't be sensed or spotted by the brothers or their familiars. However...

"My oh my, looking for a certain someone, are we?" The footsteps followed Shu to the intersection of a middle staircase. Looking back, he laid eyes upon Shin, the same sluggish smirk upon his face as before.

Clenching his fist, Shu's eyes spoke every word in his mind. "You know good and damn well what I'm here for." He spoke in a stern tone; he became somewhat alarming as Shin scoffed as the set of daggers appeared once more in his palms, nearly hidden by the sleeves of his shirt.

"Eve, huh? My elder brother will take her to the grave with him if you get any ideas," Shin mocked before Shu's teeth grit down so hard he nearly bled from his mouth. Shin was certainly no negotiator, and Shu wasn't especially a talker either. There was no use with him as he abruptly charged his way; Shu's fists nearly knocked the soul from Shin's body as they clashed with his jawline. Then, Shu pounced once more and began violently beating him straight into the wall.

Shin's formed changed then, morphing into a wolf and barking a loud cry of vengeance. Blood spurt from his fur, out onto the floor as Shu lunged himself backwards.

"Don't fucking play these games with me!" He shouted in an unusually aggressive tone; his foot took a dive straight into the jaws of the canine jumping his way. His teeth showcased themselves to him, and before Shu could react, it scarcely took his flesh from his arm; the red liquid began oozing from his arm, but he wouldn't be going down without a fight.

Shin dove for the top of the staircase, in a cautionary stance as he growled lowly at Shu, who was now clinging onto his arm and mumbling curses beneath his breath.

However, a simple scratch wouldn't stop him from anything; thus, Shu began charging up the stairway towards the wolf, and, with a great leap, sheepishly threw Shin straight into the wall with a crumble. Adamant he was, however, as he rose back up in his form, shaking violently as he began transforming back into his vampiric body. The hair began to leave his skin, and, separating himself from clothes, he began to appear to him in bare flesh.

"Such a damned fool..." Shin growled lowly; Shu was still tense as, before the blink of eye, back into a wolf Shin went. He had a second to react before the canine fangs scoured only centimeters from his cheek, and thus, Shu did what he saw best. He disappeared, carried only by the wind to high atop the ceilings. With the strength left inside of his arm, he practically tore the chandelier from the ceiling as rubble and other bits of the ceiling came down with it.

He had only seconds to run from its catastrophic results as a loud cry came from the wolf bellow. Then, a surge of blood went pouring down the steps, and, once again, Shin presented himself back in his vampiric form, shouting and pleading beneath the chandelier that had pinned him down in the steps.

Shu stayed from atop the staircase now, watching him beg and scream as it had pierced through the flesh and bones in his spine, leaving him quite literally trapped in the marble. While Shu bled, he was practically emotionless at the sight of Shin's seemingly death. He was nothing short of satisfied before his life flashed before his eyes.

"Coming for you..? I told you I would...I promised, didn't I?" His thoughts roamed into a void of nothingness as he met with Yuri in that field. She was waiting still, nestled in a void of flowers in elegance and grace. When she looked up, she met his eyes and once again, Shu let out a dying scream.

"You're nothing short of a bastardized icon," Carla's words seeped into his head as the blade of his sword pierced through the flesh of his side. Shu's eyesight became blurred as he could see himself bleeding if he dared to look down. He trembled now, images flashing in his head as Carla's voice echoed in his mind, pushing out any thoughts of Yuri he dared to dream. "Fall and fail, like you did so many years ago...That fire, right? Dream the sweetest dreams..."

Those words drove Shu into a fit of sadness and despair; he couldn't keep his eyesight focused, and, just as Yuri had, succumbed to a sweet sleep verging between life and death. He had blood on his hands, and at this rate, could hardly even tell if it was his or another's anymore. Then he just fell into darkness, and the truth awaiting him would be horrific.

"W-what did you do to him!" Yuri screamed as he was dragged deep down into the dungeon, shackled across the way from Yuri as he bled out all over the floor. "S-Shu! S-Shu!" She cried, trembling violently as she watched Carla chain him to the wall and press his boots into his ribcage.

Yuri felt herself shake violently, looking at him with tears rolling down her cheeks, and for a moment, she caught sight of his baby blues faintly opening and looking towards her. This made their oceans seem even farther apart as Carla shot delightfully devilish glares her way. "I should kill him for this revolting behavior,"

Thrusting herself forward, Yuri let out a loud scream of pleas. "N-no! P-please! Don't kill him!" Her voice cracked now, and all she longed to do was hold him at this moment. When Carla threw his body into the floor, she felt her emotions leave her. No amount of swimming could ever bring them together again it seemed like, especially now that they were far apart from each other it felt like.

Carla's boots began crushing deep into his spine now, pressing his lungs into his ribs as Shu let out a loud cry. Yuri could see him gripping his nails into the concrete and became overflowed with grief. It ached so much to see him suffering, especially since he was so dear to her. The sound of his ribs snapping into two, causing him immeasurable amounts of pain that were almost immeasurable to anything he'd felt before, it all caused Yuri to scream and thrust herself to his side. Well, as far as she could get at least...

"Don't get any ideas, Eve," Carla's foot lunged to her face, and into the wall she went; Yuri's head slammed on the stone and caused her to fall to the floor. Shu could hear this and immediately tried reacting as best he could, but his hands were too weak, his body, too frail. It felt like she was so close but so far all at once. They really were oceans apart, divided by the blood leaking out from their wounds. Shu's eyesight was blurry as he attempted to reach for her again, but yet, in all but a moment he too fell victim..

Karlheinz sensed it all from the upper rooms of the Sakamaki mansion as he withdrew from his friends, staring intently at the window. His eyes laid upon the garden outside where Shu and Yuri had been standing, and he merely scoffed slightly as he summoned someone to his side. Away they spoke to one another, Karlheinz, or Togo, whispered words to Reiji.

"Very well then, Father." He whispered at the conversation's conclusion, bowing before the man before rising upward and glancing out the window. "I will do what I must, as you wish." Karlheinz took a sip of his wine, he could still see remnants of Yuri's shoes in the garden, and it caused him to sneer.

"Leave no survivors, is that clear?" The man's voice was stern, sinister, dark and intimidating. His son merely complied with a nod before pulling his coat over his shoulders and departing for the exit. Oh how dark it had been in his head, any man or woman who dared to go against his wishes with the endeavors of love would be dealt with accordingly.

Yet, Yuri and Shu would be bound together by other ties. Now, as they were both trapped together, side by side by the bonds of the Tsukinamis, Shu lifted up his eyes to her and reached his hand across the room towards her.

"Yuri..." He murmured very faintly in a whisper, gently lifting his eyes up towards her. Yuri slowly began to move her hand with a moan, trying to meet his with a small weakened cry escaping her lips. Somehow, they managed to reach each other, and while Yuri felt a bit terrible, she latched onto his hand as Shu felt his eyes spill a few tears. She knew what he he needed, and Yuri was more than happy to give him it since she knew good and damn well he would die without it. So, she outstretched her neck with a weakened cry, paintings of bruises covering her from head to toe.

"P-please...drink it...take as much as you need, as much as you like...I-I won't have you die on me..." Yuri's voice was as gentle as the summer breeze swaying the willows. Shu felt at ease as he listened to her, so it would help as he hesitantly reached for her neck. Yuri didn't deny him as she could hear his panting and wheezing. He was in such great pain she was willing to do anything for him for him to get better, even if it meant draining her own life.

"Tell me....something comforting..." Yuri could hear him say as he winced in pain, looking faintly up to her eyes.

"S-something comforting..?" She whispered, her body aching as she began reaching his side closer and gently resting her hand on his cheek. It was a rare moment of peacefulness for them now, and Yuri spat blood from her lungs as she looked his way, Shu gently running his thumb over her lips and wiping away the blood. He gave her a faint nod as she bit her lips.

"A-alright..." She whispered very lowly, Shu's hand weakly up to her own. He was cold, and Yuri was warm. They each enjoyed the temperature of the other as Yuri pressed her lips gently on his mouth. A delicate moment since she was grateful he had come for her as she wished, then, she began murmuring something softly to him as he placed his lips to her throat.

"I...I love you very much...you're so wonderful t-to me..." She wheezed out, and for a split second, Yuri felt his fangs pierce her flesh and let out a soft cry; she gripped onto the remnants of his shirt. It was torn as he bled out all over the floor, and Yuri felt so guilty, so sad as she began to cry.

"I-it's so cold...I'll bet it's snowing outside...I-I can almost hear the snowflakes speaking to me...T-they're telling me to come h-home..." She whispered. "T-they say we're going to get home, Shu..." Her eyesight was faint as Shu tensely held onto her arms. She was so warm and felt so nice against him. Yet, he still could find nothing better to do than cry, after all, Yuri's words brought him back to his childhood, they made him feel okay, unlike anything his mother dared to say to him.

"M-mm...we're going to get home..." Yuri's voice whispered between tears. She bled out on his mouth, and in went the life to Shu's being; her eyesight went hazy, and little by little, his strength began to somewhat return. He was still weak, but not so much as before...

As he finished up the last droplets, the door began to open, and footsteps began making their way downstairs. In panic, Yuri held tighter to him; she began a hysteric cry, almost pleading, begging he wouldn't leave her. The moment Carla made his presence known in the cell, he latched onto Yuri's legs and began quite aggressively dragging her from Shu's side. She kept screaming and crying, shaking violently as Shu could do nothing but try his hardest to hold onto her.

All he told himself was what the hell was he supposed to do? Yuri was being stripped from his side again, and Shu wouldn't allow it to happen, not now, and not ever again. How long had he even been here for? Days? Months? In reality, a day or two seemed like an eternity. The tears in Yuri's eyes, the horrific look spawning upon her face was enough to haunt his dreams as he nearly tore his side to shreds, springing off the floor.

"You bastards!" Shu's voice screamed abruptly as he reached out for her arm. It all happened so quickly; Shu had snapped it seemed like, and now, he wasn't going to let anything get in the way between himself and Yuri.

"Let her go! Let her g-go you fucking bastards!" He cried aloud again, and then, things went so differently. The night was full of terror, and Yuri's eyes were full of tears. He held her so tightly when the chais on the floor finally broke, leaving him in his shackles. He was able to move, yes, but for how far? Shu couldn't think about that.

The last visions bestowed upon him were of Carla, and the last remnant of noise was Yuri's screams.
