Being with Cedric felt as though I had my life back on track; I was exceeding in all my classes, my relationship with my two closest friends couldn't be better and I had someone to spend the 14th of February with this year, for the first time ever.

Usually I despised Valentines day. I loathed the person who thought it was a good idea and spent practically the whole day in my dorm, alone. It pained me to see girls showered with flowers and the sickly sweet public messages of affection. But your views completely change when you have someone to enjoy it with. Maybe the reason I hated it so much was because I was jealous of how happy everyone looked to be in a relationship. And I guess I never thought I could feel the same. So I've spent my previous sixteen years resenting this one day.

But this year, let's just say I was excited. Bar the fact I had not a clue what I was meant to get Cedric as a gift; I had never done this before and I imagined he was a pro.

We had been back at school for around a month and a half and it had been the best month and a half in a while. After new years, I basically couldn't stop smiling, even if I was spending two hours of my day in double 'history of magic' with Professor boring Binns. Cedric and I had been spending every spare moment we had possible together and had even started coaching the lower years Quidditch for when they could tryout. I couldn't imagine something better to do with my time honestly; I missed it so much and it hurt me that I wouldn't be able to play with my team ever again.

Cedric had told me to meet him at his common room at six and it was now five to. I still wasn't going to risk the whole 'vinegar dousing act' so in order to avoid it, I decided to knock. And this time, it was Cedric to open it.

"Ready?"

I nodded, enthusiastically, "I think so."

He stepped out of the doorway and pulled out a scarf, "do you trust me?"

"Of course."

He lead me somewhere, including ascending a set of stairs, whilst I was completely blinded by the scarf.

"Where are we going, oh my god?" I said as I stepped out into the cold night air, shivers hitting me.

He chuckled, still grasped onto my hand, "we're actually here."

I lifted the blindfold off of my eyes, and I stared out onto the familiar green plan, "the pitch?" he nodded and offered his hand, the other holding a broom, "intriguing."

"Shall we?"

"We shall."

He mounted the broom first and I got on behind him, wrapping my arms around his waist and feeling his warm body against mine. I had never felt safer.

After flying through the cold, February night air, over and around the castle, he landed it on a flat space of roof on the west part of the castle. It overlooked the forbidden forest and had a perfect view of the vast, black lake. The area of roof was lined with candles and dainty fairy lights, a blanket and a few pillows in the centre.

"Here we are."

I looked at the set up as I dismounted the broom, then gazed up at him, my heart completely melted and touched by his efforts. I honestly thought I could have cried.

"Cedric. It's...amazing." He sat down on the blanket and gestured for me to sit next to him and I did. "You did all this? For me?"

"Of course I did. You deserve it." I thought to myself how I deserved it. In all honesty, I didn't deserve him. "You look beautiful tonight Y/N."

I felt my cheeks go hot and I laughed a bit to myself, "thank you Cedric." I gazed into his deep, brown eyes, sparkling in the moonlight, so perfectly. No one had ever done anything like this for me; I couldn't be more thankful to have him in my life.

I guess I was too dizzy with feeling and still blown away with the sentiment, to recall every amazing moment of that night. I was too busy with living in the moment, that I can only patch up a few of them. I remember getting lost in his eyes every time we locked eye contact. I remember the laughs we shared and remembering the two of us feeling guilty if anyone could hear us. I remember snuggling up together and exchanging gifts. And enjoying a cheese board he had snuck out from the kitchens earlier that night and the two of us throwing grapes into each other's mouths from a distance. I remember staring up into the night sky, the only light coming from the remaining burning candles and fairy lights, and the display of bright stars above us. Just being with him made me weak inside. But the good kind of weak; I was all warm and tender. I was never happier.

We lay under the stars, which were like a surreal blanket above our heads. I remember feeling his heartbeat against the back of my head, and hearing the soft breaths of him by my side. That's when it hit me: sometimes we are like stars - we fall to make someone's wish come true. And I had certainly fallen for Cedric.

"So it sang when you opened it under water?"

He hit his head on the books sprawled out in front of him, "for the millionth time, yes. It sang when I opened the egg in the bath." he droned.

"And what's the lyrics again?"

He groaned again, "Ughhh really?"

"Yes, really. I'm sorry that I'm trying to help." I defended.

"It wouldn't kill you to write it down."

"Just say it again Ced."

"Come seek us where our voices sound,
We cannot sing above the ground,
And while you're searching ponder this;
We've taken what you'll sorely miss,
An hour long you'll have to look,
And to recover what we took,
But past an hour, the prospect's black,
Too late, it's gone, it won't come back. "

"Wait what was the last lines again."

"Y/N, seriously, you-"

"Cedric! The task is in an hour, and you have no idea what you're up against."

"Merlin." he sighed, "But past an hour, the prospect's black-"

"Woah woah woah, stop. Black? As in the black lake?"

He sat up, his ears pricked up, "that's it! God, you're a genius Y/N!" he kissed my forehead forcefully, but gratefully. "So what, they're gonna take something of mine and hid it there?"

"Yeah I guess. And I'm assuming you have an hour to find it?" I suggested.

"But what do you think it'll be?"

"I-I don't know." I shrugged.

"Miss Y/L/N?" I turned on my seat to see Professor McGonagall stood with Hermione and Ron by the bookshelf, "could you please come with me?"

"But the second task starts in a few hours professor?"

"I'm well aware Miss Y/L/N. Please follow me."

I looked at Cedric and reluctantly stood up, "I'll see you out there." he nodded and I followed the professor through the silent students, endless bookshelves and eventually out of the library; still in the dark of why.
