Chapter Nine.

CHAPTER NINE.
enough is enough + make me lose control

"It's not us. It's them. Them and their stupid boy penises. They didn't tell me they had a wife. They gave absolutely no warning that they were going to break up with you." Meredith ranted as she, Cristina, and Vienna sat on the bathroom floor of Meredith's house.
Cristina pulled the shower door open, "It's not that Burke broke up with me. It's how he broke up with me. Like it was business. Like it was a business transition like he's the boss of me!"
"He is the boss of you." Meredith looked at Vienna, "I still can't believe you're dating that guy from peds."
The woman scoffed, "Okay, we are not ━━ we are not dating."
Cristina snorted, "Well, you should tell him that."
"I think I'm going to throw up." Meredith says, moving toward the toilet, causing Vienna to grimace and quickly move away as Cristina closed the shower door. "No. Wait. False alarm."
The asian woman reopens the door, "Look, the problem is estrogen."
"No, the problem is tequila."
"Actually, the problem is attendings." Vienna corrected, the blonde pointing at her in agreement.
"I used to be all business, and then he goes and gets me pregnant."
Meredith nodded. "With the stupid boy penis."
"Now, I'm having hormone surges. He ruined me. I'm ruined." Cristina ranted, "He turned me into this fat, stupid, pregnant girl. Who cares! Estrogen!" She sighed as she aggressively closes the shower door.
The bathroom door opens and the women look over to see Izzie and George walk in. "Penises." Meredith said nonchalantly, "Penises Izzie."
Cristina's voice came from behind the shower door, "Estrogen, George."
"Penises and estrogen," Vienna agreed.
"Okay." George turned to Izzie, "What did I miss?"
"I came home to full on vomit drama. Apparently she dumped Derek and her," Izzie pointed to Cristina, "She's been sleeping with Burke!"
"I knew that."
"Oh, and her," She pointed at Vienna, "She's been sleeping with Warren!"
"Warren from Peds?" George asked in disbelief with a mouthful of toothpaste.
Vienna waved them off. "Bowie and I are just two adults having sex, there is nothing wrong with that."
Izzie gave George a look and he turned to face Meredith. "So you really broke up with Shepherd?"
"I feel empty."
"Two hours of vomiting will do that to you."
"No, I feel empty." Meredith mumbles to herself.
Cristina scoffed, "You're lucky. I feel pissed off."
The interns arrived at the hospital after carpooling together to see Derek waiting for Meredith to arrive. Meredith slammed the driver side door of her car as she got out, the others slowly exiting after her.
"Okay, see you inside, Mer." Vienna grimaced.
The woman is barely inside when Bowie found her, holding two cups of coffee. "Good morning." He smiles, holding one cup out toward her.
"Morning,"
Bowie fiddled with the lid of his coffee before speaking up again, "Would you like to go on a date with me?"
Vienna choked on her coffee mid gulp, "A date?" She cleared her throat, "Like a date, date?"
"A date, date." He nodded. "Let me take you out for dinner."
The blonde went silent for a few moments, before deciding there was no harm in one date. She hadn't been on one in a while, so she agreed. "Okay."
"Okay?" Bowie smiled, "I'll pick you up at 8. Dress fancy."
♱
"Male, 55, victim of a head-on collision. GCS is 3. Depressed skull fracture. Multiple internal injuries. ACLS protocol started, but was vein blew so we've been pushing meds down the tube. PEA on arrival."
"How long has he been down?" Bailey asks.
"We've been doing CPR for about 20 minutes. It took fire 20 minutes to get him out of the car. He's pretty much gone."
"Uh, he's not gone until we say he's gone." Bailey nods, "Keep coding. O'Malley, get him into a bay and save him. Grey, Clark, you two go with him."
"But he's dead." He said as another ambulance pulled up.
"We've got three more victims from the other car people coming in. Let's move people!"
"Olivia," George stated as he and the women entered the trauma room, looking toward the other doctors after. "Pulseless V-Tach."
"Line's in." Meredith informed.
"Okay, charge to 200."
"200."
"Clear." George shocked the body, nothing changing.
"Push 1 of epi." Vienna stated, "Let's go again. Charge to 300."
George sighed. "Seriously?"
Olivia chimes in, "I think that's what Dr. Bailey wants you to do, George ━━ Dr. O'Malley." She corrected.
"It's what she wants, Dr. O'Malley." Meredith agreed, earning a snort from Vienna.
"Okay then. Let's charge to 300."
"300."
"Clear."
Bailey entered the trauma room a few minutes later, "Grey, Clark." She then looked toward George, "Oh percardiocentesis. Good, any response?" George hummed in disagreement, "Okay, uh, all right, you guys can ━━ "
"Should I call it?" George interrupted.
"What would you do next, O'Malley?"
"I would call it."
"To save him," Bailey clarified.
"Oh, uh. I don't know. A pericardial window."
Bailey nodded, "Excellent. Do it," She looks toward the two female interns, "Grey, Clark, down here. Bowel obstruction for you two."
Vienna laughed, "The last time Mer dealt with bowels they exploded on her."
"Well, at least your patient's still alive."
♱
"It's drugs." The radiologist told the two women, after they had been sent by Bailey to retrieve a man named Mr. Hubble's x-ray labs. "Looks like at least one 10 balloons in his bowel. My guess, cocaine."
"He swore it wasn't." Vienna sighed.
Meredith scoffed, "I don't know why you trusted him. All men are liars."
"Yeah. . . You're right. That's literally all they know how to do." Vienna nodded, eyes drifting over to the male radiologist who stood awkwardly before turning and walking away.
They walked over to Bailey with the labs in hand. "It's drugs." Meredith said.
"Yep." Vienna agreed, handing the films to Bailey. "Meredith thinks it's cocaine."
"Stupid." Bailey says as she takes the x-ray film and puts it up on the already lit screen. "Stupid, stupid. One burst and he's dead in 5 minutes. Okay what do we do?"
"Run his bowel." Vienna answered.
Bailey nodded, "And what does that mean? Yang?"
"Ah, running the bowel entails removing all 36 feet of the intestine from the body cavity, hand searching for the balloons and then cutting them out."
"Clark, book an O.R. Yang, Karev you're in. I need all the hands I can get."
The women all went to leavec but Alex continued to stare at the x-ray. He walked up closer to it and turned to them, "Are you sure they're balloons?"
The interns stopped at the door as Bailey retreated back into the room. "You have reason to believe they're not balloons?"
"This one here's has got a face." Alex points to the screen.
Bailey dimmed the light on screen a bit, watching as the balloons take on more face like structures, "So does that one."
"They all do."
"I'll be damned." Bailey scoffs, "They're Judys."
"Judys?"
"Huh. He swallowed the heads of 10 Judy dolls."
Vienna burst out laughing, "Holy crap."
"Clark." Bailey said sternly, the blonde closing her mouth in an attempt to control her laughter, small sounds breaking through at times.
After they left the room, Vienna had been sat in a chair next to Cristina at a nurse's desk as she typed files into a computer, when the asian woman turned to her, "My mother used to buy me Judy dolls. Manhattan Judy, Surfer Judy, Disco Judy."
"I always wanted one." Meredith sighed from behind them.
"I dissected them. Cut of their arms, shaved their heads."
Vienna grinned, "No way, I dissected them too! My dad always thought it was weird but my mom cheered me on when I did."
♱
"Sounds like there's a sick and twisted story behind this." Alex stated as they prepped Mr. Hubble for his operation.
"No they're sexist, distorted devil toysthat create unrealistic image expectations carrying to the porn driven minds of men." Cristina ranted, not noticing that Alex left because he saw Bailey making her way over to them.
"You swallow a bitter pill this morning, Yang?" She asked, causing Cristina to turn around and begin typing on the laptop in front of her as if she were busy, "They're dolls. Grey, call for a psych consult. Then see if he has family."
"Do I still book the OR?" Vienna asked.
"Blocked bowels become necrotic bowels. Check with Dr. Burke. See if we can bump someone. Those Judys gotta come out today."
Vienna nodded and made her way to find the male, "Dr. Burke?" She interrupted him as he spoke to another doctor, "Dr. Bailey needs an OR and they're all booked."
"For?"
"An emergent bowel obstruction." She stated as she handed him the x-rays.
"Drugs?"
The intern shook her head, "Ten Judy doll heads."
"Seriously?"
"Yes."
"I can see their little faces." Patricia cut in after looking at the film, "Help. Let me out." She says in a fake voice, causing Vienna to laugh.
"Exactly!" Vienna agrees, as Burke pulled down the x-ray film quickly.
"Bump Warner's hernia in 1. But don't tell him what we're removing." He said as he handed Vienna the film.
"Thank you." She began to walk off before moving back. "Actually, Dr. Chief ━━ I mean Chief, I have something to say." Burke raised one eyebrow. "I want you to mentor me."
The male looked around before turning back to her. "I'm sorry?"
"Well, I like Cardiothoracic surgery ━━ Honestly, it's one of my top choices for my speciality. I'm between ortho and cardio." Vienna paused. "Anyway, you spend all your time teaching Cristina, and well no offense to the other Cardio surgeons here but they're not as. . ." She trailed off, moving her hands awkwardly.
"As good as me?" Burke finished, folding his arms.
Vienna rolled her eyes, "Okay, the last thing I wanted to do was fuel a man's ego. But, yes."
"You know, you still have time to decide your specialty."
"Early bird gets the worm." Vienna shrugged. "I like Cardio. I spent all of med school around neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, neonatal surgeons, and nothing excites me the way Cardio does."
Burke hummed, one hand brushing his chin. "Hm. Well then. We'll give this a test run." He told her. "I'll have you on my service for a few days and. . . We'll see how it goes."
Vienna nodded. "Great. Thanks Dr. Chief ━━ Dr. Burke. You won't regret it." She gave him awkward finger guns as the male stared back at her unimpressed.
"Go before I change my mind."
"Right!"
♱
Since Vienna had time to kill before Mr. Hubble's surgery, she decided to head to the peds floor and see if Bowie was busy. She walked around aimlessly, smiling at a few nurses on her way. "Jamie! There's my favorite nurse!" She smiled at the strawberry blonde.
The five foot two woman looked up from the files she'd held in her hands, "Vienna! My favorite intern. How are you?"
"I'm good. Just wanted to see if Bowie was free."
"He's finishing up in 2207 right now." She smiled, placing the files down. "I hear you two have a date tonight?"
Vienna laughed, "Yeah, I don't know where he's taking me though."
"Well, you're going to have to tell me all about it."
"I will." She said, heat rushing to her cheeks as the two noticed Bowie making his way toward them.
The male smiled at her, "What are you doing up here?"
Vienna shrugged. "I've got some time to spare before we have to prep the man who ate the heads of 10 judy dolls."
Bowie did a double take, nearly dropping his files. "I'm sorry? Can you repeat that?"
"Yup. At first we thought it was drugs, but they had faces."
The male laughed, handing one of his charts over to one of the nurses. "That is just ━━ Wow. Are you heading to lunch?"
Vienna nodded, "I was just about to go meet Cristina and Meredith. You?"
Bowie shook his head. Got an appendectomy."
"Well, you have fun with that." Vienna grinned, walking backwards away from the male.
♱
"The father is an alcoholic wife beater. I mean there shouldn't even be a question." Cristina stated as the interns walked over toward the table in the cafeteria that they had practically coined as their own.
"But if you could save somebody and you didn't, wouldn't you feel like you were committing murder?"
"Like the guy did when crashed into George's DOA." Cristina pointed out, "He's the killer not the son."
George stopped walking suddenly, causing Vienna to bump into his back. "Dude," Looking up to see why he stopped, she saw their designated table with 10 headless Judy dolls sitting arranged in a circle, "Oh! What the hell?" She laughed.
"Who would do that?" Izzie grimaced.
Their heads all turned to the table where Alex was sitting, his face branding a goofy smile. "Oh. Look!" Cristina picked up one, "See Judy fly." She threw it at him, the doll narrowly missing him before they all took a seat at their table.
"Hey, George." Olivia smiled as she walked by.
"Hey." He dismissed her. "What?" He asked in confusion, seeing the looks he was getting from the other interns.
"George." Meredith scoffed, "She was trying to make up with you. You should go eat with her."
"No. No, I shouldn't." George muttered as he picked up a Judy doll and started playing with it, twisting it's legs back and forth.
"She's cute and she likes you." Izzie told the boy, "You shouldn't let a little syph get in the way."
"It's not the syph."
"It's so the syph." Cristina and Vienna stated in unison, the latter reaching across the table to grab one of the judy dolls.
"It's not the syph!"
"Then what is it?" Izzie asked, only to be ignored by George. "Oh."
"What?" Meredith asked George who shrugged, "What is it? Out with it."
"There's this other girl."
"Izzie!"
"Other girl? You have another girl?!"
Vienna laughed, lightly hitting Cristina on the arm, "Georgie gets around! Maybe you gave yourself syphillis!"
"Not like that. George just hasn't told her yet that he likes her." Izzie snickered.
"Izzie! We are not in high school."
"George has a little crush."
"I do not have a crush."
Cristina laughed with Vienna while Meredith looked at George who was still playing with the Judy doll, "It is a thing. A thing that is very personal. One day I would like to build on this thing with this other girl. Woman. She's all woman."
Meredith snatched the Judy doll away from George and slammed it onto the table, "What are you doing?"
"I was playing with
"No, George, with Olivia." She picked up the doll, pointing it at him. "What are you doing with Olivia?"
"Oh. Nothing."
"You're letting her think you're emotionally available. You're letting her think she has a chance." She raised her voice, "And there is nothing worse in the world than thinking you have a chance when you really don't!" Meredith finished, throwing the doll down to put emphasis on her point.
"Meredith is right. Tell her there's someone else. Tell her why George. I mean—" Cristina yelled, "I mean at least give her the chance to have some feelings about for god's sake!"
"Why are you yelling at me?"
"Because of the estrogen George! Because of all the estrogen!" Cristina took a bite of her salad aggressively as Meredith looked at George angrily.
"So new subject."
Vienna scoffed. "Damn, estrogen."
♱
"I think it's something to do with his mother. Maybe she always wanted a girl and gave him Judy dolls for his birthday presents." Izzie said as the interns and Bailey stood in Mr. Hubble's surgery.
"Ah, ah I've got another one." George said as Bailey popped up a Judy doll head in the intestine.
"Doyen clamps to Yang." Bailey stated. "Grey, push the head up to the incision."
"Maybe his mother looked like Judy and he's into voodoo. Instead of sticking pins in ━━ "
"Yep. Ah." Bailey holds up a black doll head with an afro with a clamp, "Black Judy. What they gave her long hair back when she had the afro. She came with go go boots and a leather jacket." She dropped the doll head into the silver bin, "Shame it's a real collector's item.
"Collectable dolls with a twist."
"Seriously, you can identify these dolls by their heads?"
"You got a problem with that Yang?" Bailey sassed. "I like Judy dolls. I own Judy dolls. The only problem I have with Judy dolls that are in the bowel of this man."
Burke walked into the OR, "Bailey, I need an intern in the ER to meet the harvest donor."
"O'Malley."
"See ya, boo-boo," Cristina told him.
"You good here?" Burke asked.
"Couple more heads to go."
Vienna was silently hoping that Burke wouldn't choose her. Despite wanting to spent more time on Cardio, she desperately wanted to stay with the ingested Judy doll heads.
"Then Karev, Yang, Stevens scrub out. I need to get an answer from Seibert's son." Cristina and Burke shared a look before he swiftly left the O.R., the interns minus Vienna and Meredith scrubbing out.
Bailey removes another Judy doll head, "Ah yes. Mod Judy. Came with a yellow vesper. You know what's strange?"
"We haven't had enough strange?" Vienna questioned.
"She looks a little like you, Grey," Bailey told the blonde who doesn't respond as Bailey dumped the doll head into the silver bin. Vienna snorted before erupting into laughter, igniting a small laughing fit from Bailey as well.
♱
Later that evening, Vienna, Cristina, and Meredith were all in the former's room as the young blonde tried on multiple different dresses for her date. The room was trashed, Vienna having gone crazy as she couldn't figure out what to wear.
"I like that one." Cristina said from her laid back position on Vienna's bed, the blonde having put on a dark red dress that went down to the floor. "That one's hot."
Vienna sighed, "But it doesn't show off my boobs."
"Is that something you want?" Meredith asked with a laugh, looking up from where she sat on the floor attempting to gather the dresses discarded on the wooden floor.
"Duh." Vienna said as if it was obvious, pulling the dress off. "Boobs are hot. Boobs get you sex."
The woman on the floor nodded. "Is that the goal after tonight. Sex from Bowie?"
Vienn shrugged, not caring that she was half-naked in front of her best friends at the moment. "Maybe."
Cristina sighed. "I wish I was having sex."
Vienna checked her watch, the time reading 7:45. "Oh, my God. He's getting here at 8, and I still don't know what dress to wear."
Meredith shoved a black one into her hands. "This one! This is the one."
Vienna quickly slipped into it, walking over to the body length mirror she'd added a few weeks ago. She ran a hand down her body as she admired herself. The dress was black with a v-neck opening that showed off her boobs in just the way she wanted. There was a slit that began on her upper left thigh, perfectly exposing the cherry tattoo on her ankle. She turned to the side, smirking to herself at how good her ass looked in the dress.
Meredith leaned over, grabbing a tan box that had heels inside. She opened it, jaw dropping at the red bottoms that were inside. "Holy crap! How did you afford these?" She asked, taking one out of the box and showing them to Cristina.
"Can you sugar momma me or something?" The Asian woman asked.
Vienna smiled, sitting down on her bed to pull on the shiny heels. "They were a gift. From my ex-boyfriend's brother."
"Your ex-boyfriend's brother gifted you a pair of Louboutins?"
Vienna shrugged. "Birthday gift."
"Well. . . Can he sugar daddy me?" Cristina asked.
"Gross. No." The young blonde frowned, walking over to one of her dressers to go through the jewelry stand that say on top. She decided on a golden necklace with a bar that hung right in between her breasts, and switched her silver watch out for a different golden one.
As she and Meredith were picking up the rest of the discarded dresses, the doorbell to Meredith's house rang. The three women all looked at each other before dropping what they were doing and rushing out of the room.
Vienna moved as fast as she could in the heels, the other two on her tail. They stood at the top of the stairs and could see Bowie standing outside, his hands fiddling with the buttons on his sleeve.
"Oh, my God, Oh my God." She repeated over and over, the nerves of not having been on a date in months filling her body.
Meredith placed her hands on the younger blonde's shoulders. "Okay, you got this. Go get some Bowie!"
Cristina nodded, slapping Vienna's butt as she passed. "Get laid, hot stuff!"
The blonde blushed, making her way down the stairs. She pulled the door open, a grin taking her face at the sight of Bowie in a light pink button down and black slacks. He looked her up and down before looking her in the face with a sparkle in his eyes. "You look beautiful."
"And you look handsome," Vienna grinned, placing her palm on Bowie's chest. "You clean up nice. Now, can you tell me where we're going?" She asked as they made their way to Bowie's jeep arm in arm.
Bowie laughed as he shook his head. "Nope. I told you, it's a surprise."
"I'm not a fan of surprises. Sometimes."
The male smiled, "You'll be a fan of this one."
♱
True to his words, Vienna did love the surprise. He took her out to a fancy restaurant down in the city, where they had window seats that gave them a fantastic view of the sunset, pink and orange colors meshing together perfectly. She'd lost count of the times that Bowie had told her that she looked beautiful with the orange sun beaming down on her. He thought she was glowing.
After dinner, they took a walk on one of Seattle's piers, and the two shared a kiss like none other they had before under the moonlight. He'd offered her his jacket when she shivered, placing it over her shoulders even when she'd refused.
He then drove her home and walked her to the door before she kissed him goodnight. She then invited him inside, the two having a drink or two in the living room before they made their way upstairs to Vienna's room."
Now it was early the next morning, and Cristina and Vienna had been dragged by Meredith to go jogging in the park before work. "Oh, you're stupid." Cristina groaned. "Oh God. You're stupid, evil, sadist and I wanna kill you. Both of you."
"Endorphins are good. Endorphins are mood elevators. This is supposed to make us feel better."
"Do you feel better?"
"I'm so sore," Vienna groaned. "Do people go jogging after having sex the night before?"
Cristina stopped jogging to catch her breath, Vienna taking a seat on the ground while Meredith jogged around them in circles. "I'm stupid." The older blonde groaned.
"Slutty mistress."
"Pregnant whore."
Vienna frowned. "What am I?"
The two looked at her, "Huh. We'll come up with something for you later." Cristina told Vienna.
"Sleeping with our bosses was a great idea." The two women looked at Vienna again, the blonde sprawled out on the grass as she unzipped her gray windbreaker. "You're lucky, it hasn't blown up in your face yet."
"Why do you say yet?"
"It's inevitable."
Meredith finally stopped jogging, "You know what's ruined for me?" She asked as Cristina groaned in pain, "Ferry boats. I used to love ferry boats and Derek's got a thing for ferry boats. Now every time I see a frigging ferry boat ━━"
" ━━ You know what's ruined for me?" Cristina cut off Meredith, "Coronary artery bypass grafts. . . and aortic aneurysms. God, I used to love aortic aneurysms."
The two joined Vienna on the grass, each of them breathing heavily, "Have you cried yet?"
"Do you think we'll feel better if we cry? You know like just let it out?"
Cristina paused, looking toward Meredith, "Do you wanna cry now?"
Vienna shook her head. "Crying shows weakness. If you cry, it shows the men that they won. Don't let them win."
"She's right. Okay, let's — let's jog."
The young blonde cheered, "Woo! No crying!"
♱
Arriving at the hospital after their morning jog, the three women stood with George in the intern locker room, watching Alex and Izzie laughing together.
"What is she doing?" Cristina asked in a baffled tone.
"She's hanging out with Alex."
"Why?"
"I dunno. I think ━━ " George paused, "I think they might be friends. Make the lambs stop screaming."
"You guys are wrong about him, all right?" Izzie told them as they walked through the hallway together. "Once you get to know him, he's really sweet."
"He's Alex."
"Punk ass."
"Yeah, he's a dick, Izzie." Vienna snorted.
"Hey, Grey." Alex called from behind them, "Izzie was telling me you have tapes of your mom performing surgery. I'd kill to see the Ellis Grey in action."
"Hey, you know what?" Izzie called back to him, spinning to walk backwards as she spoke to him, "Maybe you can come over tonight and we can all watch it together? Right?"
The other interns looked at Izzie in disbelief, "Oh yeah, if this were a hell dimension."
Cristina nodded, "Yeah, run away pig boy."
"Do you have a thing for Alex?" George asked as he stopped in front of Izzie.
"No." Cristina groaned in pain as Izzie looked at them, "I don't."
The Asian woman groaned again as Bailey walked over to them, "Are we saving lives or having a tea party? Walk faster, people."
"Mr. Gaston is scheduled for resection non-small cell carcinoma today. He did well overnight, but has remained afebrile." Cristina presented as Bailey's interns and Burke stood in a patient's room. "He's had a dose of ceftriaxone this morning. His pre-op labs are unremarkable. His chest x-rays, um, are unchanged from the previous."
"I own a couple of dry-cleaning stores. Never believed what they said about inhaling the chemicals, but. . ."
"We're going to do everything we can for you, Mr. Gaston." Bailey told him, "Did Oncology see him yet?"
"Uh, they're waiting for the surgical path."
"Thank you, Dr. Yang."
"You're welcome, Dr. Burke."
♱
"I just think you should still tell him about the baby because he'd at least have the responsibility of having to pay," Meredith told Cristina.
"No! You know what? He'll never know. It's over. Once this pregnancy is taken care of, Burke won't even be a blip on my radar. He'll be a smudge."
"Right," Meredith said sarcastically.
"You know, Meredith? Leave the sarcasm up to me." Cristina tells her. "Really, it doesn't suit you."
Vienna laughed, "Yeah. She's kind of right, Mer. Sarcasm is not your strong suit."
"Kelly Roche. She's 23 years old. In for a scheduled ETS for treatment of her erythrophobia hyperpyrexia." Alex presented.
"Erythrophobia?" Izzie whispered.
Cristina looked at her book, "Blushing."
"You have any questions about the procedure?" Bailey asked the patient.
"Oh. Dr. Sh ━━ " Kelly paused, her face turning bright red as she tried to get rid of it by fanning her face. "Dr. Shepherd explained everything. He was very uh, helpful. He gave me some liter ━━ Sorry."
"Don't be." Alex smirked, "Half the patients that come through here have the hots for Shepherd."
"Dr. Karev."
"What? It's true."
♱
The voice of a woman screaming was the first thing the interns heard after being summoned by Bailey. "Watch it!" Hands off me! I could report you to the chief and you'd be out on your ass."
Cristina was reading her chart, while Dr. Bailey, Alex, Izzie and George moved the gurney. "Where is the chief?" She screamed.
"Patient's name is ━━ "
"Where is the chief?" Ellis yelled, "You're all amateurs."
Cristina tilted the chart toward Vienna, confusing the woman until she was able to read the patient's name. "Oh, uh ━━ Complaining of intermittent cramping pain and diarrhea. Also suffers from ━━ Uh."
The two women saw Meredith backing away slowly as Ellis continued to yell. "Amateurs!"
"Alzheimer's."
"Patient's name?"
"Um ━━ "
"Yang! Patient's name!"
"What the hell are you doing here?" Ellis questioned Meredith, finally setting her eyes on the younger blonde. The intern rushed off, hiding behind an office corner.
"Haven't I told ━━ How many times have I told you not to bother me when I'm at work?"
Dr. Bailey and the rest of the interns stared at Meredith as Cristina finally answered, "Ellis Grey."
"Meredith's mother."
"You're amateurs! You're amateurs!"
After Ellis had been moved into a room, Bailey's interns all talked over each other as they crowded the hallway just outside the locker room, the door is being blocked by Dr. Bailey.
"Meredith, are you okay?"
Bailey places her hand over George's mouth, "Just zip." She handed a chart to Alex, "Dr. Karev stick with the ETS case and Alex, her blushing impulse? Not a toy for you to play with or button for you to push. Understood?"
"Hey Meredith," Cristina started in a sincere tone, "You know great grandmother — she died with Alzheimer's."
Vienna scoffed at her friend, "Cristina! What the hell is wrong with you? Why would you say that?"
"Look, I'm just trying to help."
"Well, you're not!" The blonde rolled her eyes.
"Izzie, the Dr. Shepherds need an intern up in the NICU." Bailey ordered, ignoring the blonde's complaints, "Go."
"Cristina you're on the thoracotomy."
"With Burke? Oh, can I have the hateful married couple instead?"
"Okay, I'm sorry I thought that I was your resident, not your hostess. I assign, you take. Is that a problem?"
"No." Cristina stuttered.
Vienna frowned. "Oh, come on."
Bailey held a hand up in Vienna's face. "Is there some reason why it's inconvenient for you to spend the day in the OR, learning from Dr. Burke?"
"No. I'm very happy to be working with Dr. Burke. Thank you very much."
"George, Vienna, take care of Dr. Grey."
"Yes. Thank you." George wrapped his arms around Dr. Bailey, causing Vienna and the resident to furrow their eyebrows, "She needs a friend right now." George went to move into the locker room, but Dr. Bailey threw her arm against the door frame to stop him.
"What? He frowned. "Oh you mean Ellis the ━━ " George was cut off by Dr. Bailey going into the locker room without a word. " ━━ Mother."
"Let's go, Georgie." Marcella smiles and pats the man's shoulder.
♱
George attempted to give Ellis a physical exam in her room, but the woman is stubborn and constantly turned away from him. Vienna giggled as she leaned against a wall, fiddling with her lamplight.
"Um, if you could just hold still ━━ " George tried, turning to the other intern, "Vienna, a little help here?"
Vienna shrugged as Ellis maneuvered her way out of his grasp and grabbed her own chart. "I'm in the middle of my work day Thatch."
"Thatch? No, I'm ━━ I'm Dr. O'Malley." George said baffledly . The female intern's eyebrows raised as George wrestled Ellis for the chart, the retired surgeon eventually yanking it away. "Okay. I just need to check your ━━ "
"Darling, I'm not in the mood to play doctor now. Hands off, I'm busy."
Vienna notices Meredith come and stand at the doorway, giving her a slight wave, "Vienna."
"Um."
"Damn it, Thatcher I mean it, no."
"George."
The two interns then left the room to go talk to Meredith, "She's allergic to penicillin."
"Yeah? Oh, yeah, it said on her chart."
"Oh." Meredith paused, "You just have to be patient."
Vienna nodded, giving her a soft smile, "Mer, who's Thatch?"
Meredith took a long pause, looking between the two. "My dad, Thatcher. What did she ━━ Is she talking about him?"
"Um, yeah. She's ━━ "
"She never talks about him."
Vienna frowned. "Are you okay?"
"No, yeah, yeah. I'm good."
"Good." George murmured.
Vienna pointed behind her into Ellis' room, "So, we should probably ━━ "
"Yeah, I mean we're good here, we're great, so.."
"Okay."
"Okay."
"Okay," Vienna repeated.

"Get away from me you insipid little man," Ellis yelled as she threw a pillow at George.
"Dr. Grey calm down."
"Get out of here! Get out of my room now!"
"Dr. Grey, please calm down," Vienna tried next.
"Get away from my house!"
"Please!"
"What can I do?" A nurse asked, entering the room.
George looked over, "Please get some haloperidol."
"Don't give me that look. That sapful, little soulful puppy routine. I know it by heart, Thatch! And I'm over it."
"I don't wanna hear about your day, your students, your pathetic little research grants. My ━━ my work is what counts! It's what pays for this house. It pays for — it pays for you! And it pays for, it pays for Meredith!" Vienna noticed the woman in question standing outside the room with Alex as Ellis continued her rant. " ━━ And your precious lifestyle. So why don't you just leave me alone and let me do it! Meredith may think she needs you but I sure as hell don't."
"Dr. Grey."
"Here it is." The nurse said as she returns with the haloperidol.

Vienna and George re-entered Ellis' room later and were met with the sight of her rifling through her bedside drawers. "Dr. Grey."
Ellis briefly turned around, "Oh, damn it, Thatcher I'm at work. I've already told you I'm too busy to deal with you now. No more cartoons."
"Hi, I'm Dr. Clark." Vienna went to shake Ellis' hand. "We briefly met earlier. I've always admired your work, Dr. Grey."
"So you're familiar with the laparoscopic-grey method?"
"Very. I've studied footage of the operation you pioneered." Vienna amiled at the older woman as she took the stethoscope from around her neck. "You're an amazing surgeon."
"Good. Well, then we're wasting time. Let's scrub in."
"Dr. Grey, I'm going to need to do a short exam before you start surgery." Ellis gave Vienna a questioning look, "I ━━ I know. New hospital policy."
"Ah," She scoffed, removing her cardigan and turning around. "Make it quick."
Vienna took her black stethoscope and began listening to her heartbeat. "Why don't you wait outside, Thatcher?" Vienna remarked with humor laced in her tone, "I can take it from here."
George left the room dejectedly as the surgeon in training finished Ellis' exam.
After her exam, Vienna goes to find George. "Can you go check up on Ellis? Pretty please?" She asked. "I promised Mer I'd watch her and Derek's surgery."
George stared at her unamusedly, "Fine. You better come back soon. She hates me," He frowned.
"Thanks, Georgie!" Vienna pat his shoulder, taking off in a sprint to get to the viewing room of Meredith's OR.
She came to a halt, however, upon seeing Cristina being placed onto a gurney by Izzie and Bailey.
"Cristina ━━ " Vienna stuttered, "What ━━ What the hell happened to her?" She asked, temporarily drawing Bailey's attention from the injured intern.
"She collapsed." Bailey told her quickly, "Her pulse is racing. I need her on a monitor to get a BP. Also, I want her started on a liter of LR wide open."
Vienna feels Cristina grab her forearm, causing the woman's attention to go to her. Cristina tried to tell her something, causing the woman to frown in confusion before it finally dawned on her.
"Oh ━━ Oh!" Her eyebrows raise, looking at Cristina who nodded at her to the best of her abilities, "Wait, Dr. Bailey! She's pregnant ━━ Um, Cristina, she's seven weeks pregnant."
The other two women shared a look as they stopped the gurney. "Uh, okay no. We're going to pre-op instead. Clark, find Addison Shepherd. And be discreet."
The elevator door closed in front of the intern, causing her to curse under her breath. Pulling out those years of running track in high school, Vienna raced around the hospital searching for the woman, finally finding her on a set of stairs, speaking to Webber and George.
"Addie!" She called, prompting the three heads to turn toward her. "You're um, we need you. Please ━━ Um, it's Cristina. She collapsed."
"Cristina's collapsed?" George repeated in shock, face coated in worry.
The attending stared at her confusedly, "Why do you need me?"
"Seriously?" She asked in a lower tone, "You're double board certified, use your brain ━━ "
George realized at the same time Addison did, "Cristina's pregnant?!" He blurted.
"Addie, please," Vienna begged the woman who nodded, quickly following her to the OR.
Addison placed a comforting hand on Vienna's arm as she looked at the younger woman. "I'll take care of her, Vee."
They arrived at the OR at the same time as Meredith, the two women attempting to enter after Addison but Bailey saw them, stopping the two inside the scrub room.
"Need something?"
"We're coming in." Meredith stated.
"No, you're not."
"We are. We're her friends."
"Exactly. She's lying on the operating table, naked, exposed. She's sedated but she's probably scared out of her mind. Now right now she's not a doctor. She's not your friend. She's a patient and she deserves to have all the privacy I can give her. You're not going in there."
Meredith sighed, "We went jogging this morning. I made her and Vienna go jogging. There's no way that could of ━━ "
"No. It started out this way. Nothing caused it to happen."
"You have to let us in there." Vienna told her.
"You can try." Bailey joked, "I'd have to take you down. Hey, I might be short but you're pretty tiny. I could do it."
"Right now. Just in this moment. I hate you."
"Me too. I hate you right now," Vienna agreed with a frown.
"Hmm, yeah, well I can take it."
Vienna was lying on her stomach on an empty gurney alone in one of the tunnels as she stared out the window. "Hey, I've been looking for you everywhere." A voice came from behind her.
The woman turns her head to the side and smiled slightly, "Hi, Bowie."
The male held a thermos out to to her, "I heard what happened, I'm sorry about Cristina."
Vienna sat up, turning to face him. She took the thermos with a thankful smile and pat the spot next to her. "Me too."
The male took a seat next to the intern, smiling as Gienna drank the coffee. She then scooted down, placing her head on Bowie's thigh. His soft fingers brushed through her hair as Vienna closed her eyes.
"Thank you for being here." She muttered.

Meredith, Vienna, and George were waiting for Ellis' biopsy results at a nurse's station when Izzie came and sat next to George.
"Hey did you get your mom's biopsy results back yet?"
"Not yet."
"How's Cristina?"
"She's uh ━━ " Izzie sighed, "She's gonna have a lot of pain for a few days but she'll be okay."
"I'm glad you were there."
Vienna smiled softly, "Me too."
"Are you?"
"Yes, I am," Meredith told her, as Vienna gave the taller blonde a look.
"It's just ━━ " Izzie laughed dryly, "It's just that a lot of the time it feels like you two and Cristina are kinda over there and ━━ I'm here."
Vienna scoffed, clenching her first. "She just had surgery and you're starting with this bullshit."
"So about Alex." Meredith changed the subject, grabbing Vienna's arm.
"Yeah, I know, I know. You guys hate him. Fine."
"Yeah, we do but I just wanna say that I believe you." Meredith told her, "That he's different once you get to know him."
"Here you go." The Lab tech appeared, handing the results to Meredith. "Ellis Grey."
She read the results while the other three watch her reaction. Meredith then got up silently before handing the results to Vienna.
"Let her know."
"Meredith, are you okay?" Izzie called after her.
"No. I'm not okay."
Their exhausting and long day ended with the interns, even Alex, all sitting around Cristina's room as she slept in the hospital bed, the group being there to support her even if she wasn't awake.
