➵ Surprise Surpise - Monroe Part I
A year and a few months after Nevah's birthday
"That freaking counselor!" I continued to curse in Ancient Greek. My grip tightened Angel Lili's mane. We were in the sky, flying away from Monroe and her crew.
They were following below us in jeeps and rovers, shooting all types of weapons. An arrow flew by my ear, causing another string of curses to escape my mouth.
Where should we go? Angel Lili asked, flying higher into the sky. The clouds formed some form of coverage for us. However, there were still spots where they could see us.
"I have no clue." I breathed out, frantically looking below us. My hair billowed wildly, some strands smacking me in the face. "Stiles is going to kill me."
Not if they kill us first. Angel Lili muttered.
"Gee, thank for the encouragement." I scoffed. Biting down on my lip, I took a deep breath. "How in the Hades did she even find us? We've been flying the entire time!"
Something whizzed by me again, scraping my arm. A hiss came out of my lips. Looking at my arm, I saw a stream of blood starting to flow down it. The thickness seemed to be the size of a bullet.
"We need to go higher." I told my pegasus. The flying horse nodded and flew even higher. "I fucking hate their new weapons. I want to know how in the Hades they managed to create bullets that shot this far up."
Well, for one, they really hate you. Angel Lili commented.
"Again with the not helping." I groaned, using my non-injured to raked a frustrated hand through my hair. "The one day Percy needs to use Mrs. O'Leary, is the day I fly a short fifteen minute flight to Stiles' apartment and get ambushed."
Do you even know why he called you this time? Angel Lili asked. More projectiles flew at us. An arrow flew at my face. I released a shriek and ducked, protecting my face with my arms. A strangled cry flew through my lips as I felt the arrow pierce into my left forearm. I'm going to slow down and see if we can lose them.
"Whatever works." I hissed out, glancing down at the arrow sticking out of my arm. Blood was starting to trickle down.
Biting down on my lower lip, I tightly gripped the end of the arrow and snapped the wood. I bite back a scream and tossed the broken arrow aside. Hopefully it doesn't hurt anyone as it falls to the ground.
My pegasus slowed her flying pace, Monroe and her henchmen now speeding in front of us. A heavy sigh blew through my lips.
"Let's go back a mile or two and take cover for now. I saw a pond or a lake back there." I licked my lips, a metallic taste lingering on my tongue.
Gotcha. Angel Lili turned around and picked up her pace again.
I glanced at my arms to check my wounds. The bullet wound wasn't too deep and didn't need immediate attention. However, the arrow head that was still lodge in my forearm did.
Isn't that Stiles' Jeep? Angel Lili questioned.
"What? Where?" I glanced below at the road. Sure enough, the familiar powder blue Jeep was being driven on the road below. "Get in front of it. I'm gonna need their help."
Their? Isn't it Stiles'? Angel Lili drew her wings in and went down.
"He gave it to Scott." I held onto her mane. Angel Lili gracefully landed on the empty road, a few meters in front of the Jeep.
Yells along with the tires screeching echoed through the area. The Jeep squealed to a stop only five feet away from us. I jumped off, careful with my injuries. Scott was the first to exit the vehicle.
"Hey guys." I grimaced a smile and waved with the arm that bared the bullet wound.
"Oh my God, Nevah!" Malia quickly hopped out of the Jeep and ran towards me. She wrapped me in a tight hug. I let out a small hiss when her stomach pressed against the arrow head. She paused and drew away from me, sniffing. "Where are you bleeding?"
"Why are you bleeding?" Scott walked up to me with concern.
"Monroe and her meddling gang." I sighed. I held up my arms to show them the damage. "They're getting better. Their weapons, their aim, Hell, even their hunters."
"Let me guess," Scott sighed, looking at the arrow head. "I'm going to have to pull it out."
"It's a tradition now, Scotty." I chortled.
"Why aren't you at Stiles' place?" Malia asked. She crossed her arms across her chest.
"Why are you guys heading to his place, mmh?" I retorted. Malia gave me a cheeky smile.
"Go ahead and get it out of her, Scott." Malia turned to face her boyfriend.
"Yeah, can go go grab some water bottles?" Scott gently grabbed my left arm and examined the arrow. Malia nodded and jogged back to the Jeep. "Well, it was smart to break the arrow."
"There's a but." I groaned.
"But, it's going to be a bit harder to get it out. I'm going to have to dig my claws a bit into your arm to get a good grip. You broke the arrow too close to your skin."
"It was a quick thing. If I didn't do it right then and there, then I wouldn't have done it." I shrugged.
"Alright... hold still." Scott kept one hand gripping my arm tightly in place while flicking his claws out with his other. The clawed hand grabbed a hold of the little stub left of the arrow. His claws broke through my skin before yanking it out.
"Holy shit!" I cried, shoving him away to cradle my arm. Malia quickly walked up to me and poured the water over the wound. I sighed in relief once I felt the cool water start to mend my muscles and skin. "Thanks."
"Let me pour the other one on the other arm." Malia mumbled, opening another water bottle. She poured the water on top of that wound, which healed quickly.
So, do you still need me or are you hitching a ride with them? Angel Lili nuzzled my shoulder.
"I'll have to ask first, Angel Lili." I rolled my eyes.
"What she say?" Scott looked at the arrow head, twirling it in between his fingers.
"If she's still needed or if I can catch a ride with you guys. It seems like we are all going to Stiles' place." I informed them.
Scott and Malia looked at each other. Malia slightly shook her head, giving Scott a pointed look.
"Of course, you can." Scott smiled. A growl slipped through Malia's lips.
Then I'm off. Peace. And with that Angel Lili flew off.
"Thanks. I will like to take a nap." I patted both of their shoulders and walked towards the Jeep. "I'm worn out."
"Seriously?" I overheard Malia smack Scott. I opened the door and pushed back the seat to hop into the back.
"What? She's going to go see Stiles too." Scott innocently said. I almost let out a giggle at Scott's innocence. Shaking my head, I went to the back and brought the seat forward.
"But she's supposed to get there before we do, Scott." Malia groaned as she stomped her way to the jeep.

"Woah, calm down, Stiles." Scott spike. I let out a yawn and rubbed my eyes. Blinking my eyes, I sat up from my previous position. Scott had his phone pressed against his ear as he drove. "She's right here with me. Monroe managed to get to her-she's Okay! She's okay. No, Monroe got away."
"Let me talk to him." I tapped Scott's shoulder. He glanced at me and nodded.
"She wants to talk to you." Scott told Stiles. He passed the phone over to me.
"Hey, Stiles." I braced myself for any form of yelling.
"What the hell happened? You were supposed to be at my place an hour ago." Stiles fumed.
"And I was like five minutes away before I was being shot with weapons." I bluntly responded, peering out the window. We were driving through the city, a block away from Stiles' apartment. "We're almost there anyways."
"Are you okay?" Stiles asked worried.
"Yeah." I smiled, leaning my head against the window. "I'm fine. Just miss you."
"I miss you, too." Stiles sighed. "Now hurry up, I can't wait to see your cute ass."
"Aw you think my ass is cute?" I teased.
"Aw, gross guys!" Scott groaned in disgust. "I can hear everything you're saying!"
"What are you talking about, Scott? We talk like that." Malia looked at her boyfriend in confusion. I snorted, quickly covering my mouth. Scott sent me a glare.
"What's happening? I want to know." Stiles eagerly said.
"It's just Scott and Malia." I laughed.
"That doesn't given me much information." Stiles replied.
"It does, babe, it does." I looked up to see that we parked in front of Stiles' building. "We're outside."
"Great! Awesome!" I heard clattering from the other side of the line. "Just come on up."
"Okay, see you soon." I bit my lip from excitement and hung up the phone. Quickly unbuckling, I anxiously tapped Malia's shoulder.
"Will you quit that?" Malia snapped.
"Hurry up!" I whined. Malia got out and brought her seat forward. I climbed out and made a break for the stairs.
Malia and Scott were taking their time. I bounced up the stairs and knocked on the door. The door flung open to reveal my boyfriend.
"Stiles!" I shrieked, jumping into his arms and wrapping mine around his neck. Stiles let out a sigh and embraced me.
"You has me worried." Stiles mumbled into my neck.
"I always worry you." I replied, leaning back to face him.
"That is very true." Stiles smiled, running the back of his finger against cheek.
He cupped my cheek, his thumb now rubbing my cheekbone. I leaned into it, closing my eyes to enjoy the serenity and bliss. Soon, I felt his lips capturing mine. A hum escaped my lips.
"Come here." Stiles broke away, closing the door behind me. He started to tug me towards the living room.
"Wait," I turned to face the door, "Scott and Malia are still out there."
"No, they left already." Stiles informed me.
"Why?" I pivoted to look at him only to gasp. Stiles knelt in front of me, holding an open box. Inside that box was a gold diamond ring. "Stiles..."
"We've been through some shitty things by ourselves and even shittier things together. But, Nevah, you make all of those shitty situations bearable." Stiles anxiously wet his lips. I breathed out a laugh, looking at him in adoration. Tears were looking in my eyes. Tears of happiness. "I can't imagine my life without and I don't even know how I made it this far until I met you. You are my world. Since the moment we met when I almost ran you over, I knew you would be important to me. Hell, I knew I was in love with you right then and there. I was just stupid not to realize it. I want to spend the rest of my life with you until we are old and fragile with our kids and grandchildren running about."
"Stiles, you're making my cry." I chuckled out a sob, wiping my eyes.
"Marry me, Nevah." Stiles stated.
"I thought you were supposed to ask and I was supposed to say yes?" I raised an eyebrow.
"I just confessed my undying love for you and how I want to be with your forever. You better say yes." Stiles rapidly blinked at me.
"Yeah. Yes." I frantically nodded my head. Tears fell down my face.
"Oh thank God." Stiles breathed out, slipping the ring onto my ring finger. Before he even had a chance to stand up, I threw my arms around him. "Ah!"
We fell onto the ground, the both of us laughing. My arms were holding me up as Stiles looked at me with twinkling amber eyes. He cupped my face with both hands and brought me down to kiss him.
Our lips moved in synch as our tongues battled for dominance. My hand slipped around his neck, tugging at the ends of his hair. A moan passed threw my fiancé's lips. Stiles' hand was tangled in my hair, bringing me closer to him.
"We gotta stop before we take it too far." Stiles pulled away, breathing heavily.
"And why can't we?" I panted in disappointment.
"We got a diner to go to that Scott and your brother made for us." Stiles rolled his eyes.
"Is that why, Scott was coming here?" I asked. Stiles gave me a curt nod. "Woah, wait. Percy helped too?"
"I had to ask him, Paul, and your Greek God of a father. Do you know how scary that was? I thought I was going to die three times!" Stiles proclaimed, sitting up. He pulled me into his lap, allows me to straddle him.
"Hmm...yeah I can imagine that." I chuckled, pressing my lips against his.
"But it was worth it." Stiles muttered against my mouth. "Come on, we've got to go. Annabeth will throw me off of the Empire State Building if we don't arrive."
Not wanting to get up, I let out a groan. I cursed our friends for being supportive and loving when all I want to do was have some alone time with my fiancé. Stiles stood up and laced our fingers together.
"Come on, I want to show off that shiny ring." Stiles pecked my cheek.
We went inside his Toyota car and started to drive towards the fancy restaurant everyone pitched in to afford.
"How did you even convince my dad to give his blessing to you?" I asked Stiles as he stopped at a red light.
"Lots of promises and death threats." Stiles shuddered, shaking his head. "He threatened to turn me to sea kelp or a blob fish if I ever did something to harm you."
"Aw, you would make an adorable blob fish." I teased. Stiles rolled his eyes. A black car stopped in the lane next to mine. "This is the longest red light ever."
"You don't even drive that much." Stiles chortled.
"So?" I scoffed. "It's still a long red light."
"It's going to turn green soon, don't worry." Stiles grabbed a hold of my hand and kiss my knuckles.
Glass shattered.
Bullets penetrated through the car.
A painful scream pierced through the air.
Shaking hands undid my seatbelt and helped me duck down.
"Stay down, Nev!" Stiles held out a hand towards me as he reached towards waist. He pulled out a pistol, turning off the safety switch. "Hand me my phone."
I reached towards the cup holder and handed Stiles his phone. He quickly hit speed dial. The dial tone loudly as we waited for the person to pick up.
"C'mon, Rick." Stiles muttered. Stiles shot a few rounds at the attackers. There was a cry and one gun stopped shooting. He glanced at me and licked his lips. "We're going to have to exit this car. You're going to climb over the console and over me to get out. You are going to wait on my side of the car. Okay?"
"Y-Yeah." I breathed out.
"Hurry. They're reloading." Stiles grabbed a hold of my hand to help me climb over the console. I winced a bit before sitting on Stiles lap. He aimed his gun toward shooters, pulling the trigger. "Hurry up, babe. They're aiming."
I opened the door and fell out of the car. Collapsing onto the asphalt, I rolled to the side with a loud groan. Gunfire was still echoing through the streets. Stiles kneeled down next to me, the phone in his hand.
"Rick, bring the force. I'm under attack." Stiles hissed through the phone. Peering through the window, Stiles shot more bullets. A groan was heard from the other side of the car. He glanced at me worriedly. "I don't fucking know. I think there's two. The gunfire stopped, but there could be more. My fiancé and I were driving and they just pulled up next to us and started shooting. Now get your asses over here. We're at Potomac and Virginia Avenue."
My breathing stated to get heavy. Numbness was spreading through my stomach and chest. Blinking, I looked down to see myself covered in blood.
"Stiles?" I muttered. Stiles looked at me and cursed.
"Bring medical, Rick. And bring it fucking fast!" Stiles hung up the phone, tossing it aside. He quickly placed his hands on top of my wounds instantly being covered in blood. "Nev?"
I hummed in response, my mouth feeling dry. Stiles applied more pressure on the wounds. A small cry scratched through my throat as the pain started to hit me.
"Sh, hey it's okay. They're coming to help." Stiles reassured me. "They'll get them, okay? Just stay with me."
"Okay." I croaked out not wanting to die.
"Stay-stay with me, Nevah." Stiles' voice cracked. "Don't let me lose you."
Sirens and lights flooded through the streets. Stiles let out a huff, looking passed me to see the vehicles.
"Stiles!" A man ran towards us, a gun in hand.
"They're on the other side." Stiles pointed to the black car.
"I'll have scouts survey the area. The EMT are coming with the stretcher and med kit." The man informed us.
"Thanks, Rick." Stiles gave him a nod.
"We'll find out who did this." Rick started to leave.
"Monroe." I wheezed out. "It has to be Monroe."
"Monroe?" Rick looked between Stiles and I. "Who's Monroe?"
"Someone who is trying to kill me." I shakily breathed out. The EMT rush towards us, lowering the stretcher. A woman knelt next to me.
"Sir, I'm going to have to examine her wounds." She said to Stiles. He licked his lips and let go of my wounds, his hand grabbing a hold of mine.
"Stiles, I'm scared." I tightly squeeze his hand.
"We're going to stop her, okay? Every last one of the fucking hunters." Stiles brought up my hand to his lips.
The EMT cut open my shirt and quickly examined my wounds.
"Start the IV fluid and call Dr. Stevens. The bullets are still in her." The EMT called out to her coworkers.
"Did they hit anything important?" I asked. The blood loss was starting to get to me. My eyes were feeling heavy.
"It looks like a no, but we can't be sure. We've got to take you to the hospital for an emergency surgery." The EMT looked at Stiles. "Are you combing with her in the ambulance."
"Yeah, of course." Stiles spastically nodded his head. "What hospital are we going to? We have family and friends who would like to know."
"Sentra Northern Virginia Medical Emergency Room."
"Thank you."
More EMTs came and helped lift me onto the stretcher. I squeezed my eyes shut as the pain grew in the stomach area. They quickly loaded me up into the ambulance and started my IV fluid when Stiles joined us.
"They'll meet us there. And Rick is already searching for Monroe."
So Monroe is back 🙃
How bout that proposal tho😌😉😏🤭
