➵ Cursing Horse
I hummed a tune as I gathered Angel Lili's grooming tools. We were outside of the stables, enjoying the beautiful weather. As I started to brush the pegasus, Hazel walked over to me.
"Wanna go horseback riding?" Hazel asked me. I shrugged, nodding my head as I brushed Angel Lili's mane.
"Yeah, sounds like fun." I smiled at her. "Right now?"
"If you want. I will just have to call for Arion." Hazel beamed.
"Okay, let me go put this away then." I told her, grabbing the grooming tools and placing them where they belong before going back.
Hazel whistled, the sharp sound echoing in the stables. The pegasi all turned to face us, believing that we were calling for them.
She wasn't calling for any of you guys. Angel Lili told them, rolling her eyes.
"Angel Lili..." I warned, giving her a pointed look. In reply, she swished her tail.
"What did she say?" Hazel asked.
"Just telling the other horses that you were calling for someone else and not them...but in a rude-ish way." I told her.
"Oh." Hazel sheepishly said. Suddenly, a harsh breeze followed by a flash zoomed past us almost causing me to fall. Arion stopped next to Hazel, nudging his snout against her sboulder. "Arion! You hungry?"
Is it gold? Arion questioned, staring at Hazel. Hazel smiled and kneeled to the ground. She the ground slightly shook for a little while before something shiny surfaced. Plucking it from the ground, Hazel held a gold nugget the size of an apple. Fuck yes!
"I can see why Percy says Arion has a very bad potty mouth." I snorted in a amusement. Hazel laughed, giving the gold nugget to her horse. Arion huffes, giving me a look. Grinning, I winked at him. "Don't worry, I like it. It gives you character. Just don't let him know that I told you that."
Wouldn't want to tell him anyways. Arion replied. I beamed at the horse and nodded.
Can I cuss too? Angel Lili asked.
"No."
But-
"You're too innocent." Angel Lili gave me a look. "Okay, not that innocent, but you are. Now hush. Hazel and I need to figure out where we are going to ride."
"Well, I don't know?" Hazel shrugged. "Doesn't matter to me. Where to do want to go?"
"Doesn't matter to me either. I guess we will let the horses decide?" I suggested. Hazel nodded.
Let's just freaking run. In any direction. Arion shook his mane.
I like the idea. Angel Lili nodded.
"Okay, you guys take us where ever then." I agreed. Hazel looked at me, waiting for me to tell her what the horses said. "There just going to run in whatever direction. So basically, they're gonna wing it."
"Okay, then let's do this." Hazel climbed onto her horses back. Mounting onto Angel Lili, I gave a nod to the horses.
Try to keep up. Arion pawed his hoof at the ground before running off.
Arrogant male. Angel Lili huffed and quickly followed after him. I let out a laugh, as we raced past the campers. The horses led us into the woods, seeing a very familiar couple, who was making out, ahead of us.
"Get a room you two!" I yelled, a smirk playing on my face. The couple pulled apart in fright, looking at me with wide eyes as Angel Lili passed them.
"Oh, shut up." Percy relpied, his face all red. Grumpily, he slipped his hand into Annabeth's and stormed off. He turned around and gave me the bird before stomping off.
"Well, that was a sight to see." Hazel chuckled, gripping Arion's mane. The horse snorted in agreement.
"Sadly, I'm used to it." I rolled my eyes. Angel Lili nodded in agreement. "You should have seen them when they finally started dating. Wouldn't stop eating each other's faces."
"Gross." Hazel wrinkled her nose. We crossed the camp's borders, continuing forward. The orchids blurred as the two horses picked up their pace.
Minutes had passed and we were still riding. We seemed to be nearing Montauk. We trotted into a clearing when a loud screech caused us to stop.
What the fuck was that? Arion looked around.
"What was that?" Hazel glanced at me as she unsheathed her weapon.
"I don't know," I licked my lips. "Sounded like a monster to me. Let's go check it out."
Hazel nodded and patted Arion's neck. The two started forward, Angel Lili and I following. I tapped my charm, holding the sword away from the pegasus. Another screech sounded.
It seems to be coming from over there. Angel Lili pointed with her nose. Arion nodded, agreeing with her.
"Keep your eyes open, we're close to it." I muttered, jumping off of Angel Lili. I twirled my sword anxiously, looking around. A loud snap came from my left. Quickly turning, I saw something flash in the trees. "It's here."
"Did you see what it was?" Hazel asked.
"No, it moved too fast, but it's huge." I informed her. I crept forward cautiously. A screech came again as a monster I've never seen before came out of the trees. It ran towards me. "Oh Styx!"
I dove out of the way, scratching myself with twigs and rocks. Sitting up, I looked at the unknown monster closely. It was the size of an elephant with black crocodile skin. There was three horns that resembled antlers on top of it's horse-like head. It's feet had sharp claws to match the jagged teeth.
"Nevah, you okay!?" Hazel called for me.
"I'm fine! What in the Hades is that thing?" I stood up, gripping the handle of my sword.
"It looks familiar, but I don't know from where." Hazel told me as she stared down the monster a few feet in front of her.
"Angel Lili!" The pegasus ran towards me, nudging my hand. "I think we might need some help. Go back to Camp Half Blood and bring Percy and the others."
Angel Lili hesitantly nodded before flying off. Sighing, I looked back to Hazel to see her and Arion circling with the monster. Stealthly walking towards them, I pointed my sword at the beast. As I neared it, I caught eyes with Hazel and gave her a nod.
"Hey Rudolf!" I yelled, waving my arms around. The monster growled and faced me. My eyes widened as it's dark eyes narrowed at me. Huffing, it ran at me. "Oh schist. I guess you aren't a big fan of Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer."
I ran, my arms pumping by my side. Loud stomps thundered behind me. Looking over my shoulder, I saw the monster only a foot away. He lowered his head, the three horns slashing into my side. I cried out in pain, somersaulting to the side.
"Nevah!" Hazel and Arion rushed next to the monster to get it's attention away from me. Hazel slashed the monster's causing it to cry out in pain.
"Do you remember why it looks familiar yet!?" I hissed, pressing my hand against my wounds. Blood started to soak through my shirt. The monster tried running into Arion. I stood up, stumbling a bit with a hiss.
You mother fucking piece of shit! Arion yelled at the monster, as he dodged. The horse continued to curse up a storm as he ran up to me.
"I think so! I think it's the monster that Alexander the Great fought." Hazel told me, holding out her arm. I quickly grabbed it, pulling myself up as Arion was still running.
"Wait, I think I know which one you are talking about. It starts with an O." I winced out, looking at the monster. "Oddontrotryanus? Odontotyrran? Odontotyrrannus! That's it's name."
"Know how to defeat it?" Hazel asked.
"Slice and dice." I gave her a grin.
"Okay, then let's do this. How we're gonna do it?" Hazel wet her lips.
"Arion? Can you get us close enough to it's back?" I asked him.
Of fucking course I can.
"Great." I grinned. "Let's see if I can bull ride this thing. Hazel, you two keep it distracted."
"Got it." Hazel nodded. Arion drew us to the side of Odontotyrrannus. Nimbly pushing myself to stand on Arion's back, I eyed the monster. Without a second thought, I jumped.
I landed on Odontotyrrannus' back, almost slipping off. Odontotyrrannus snarled, trying to buck me off. A shriek slipped from my lips as I almost fell off. I stabbed my sword into the back, a wail coming from the monster. Gritting my teeth, I yanked my sword out and latched my arms around it's neck.
"Hey Odontotyrrannus!" Hazel shouted, now in front of the monster. It let out another snarl and snapped it jaws at them.
Wrapping my legs around the neck, I let my arms go. I swung my sword, aiming for it's neck. Odontotyrrannus bucked again, my sword only slicing his cheek. The monster growled, angling it's head.
"Styx." I muttered, quickly unwrapping my legs from it's neck as it snapped his jaw at me. I jumped away in time, only to lose my balance. I fell off, landing on the ground. A loud cough came from me as the wind got knocked out of me.
Another wail came from Odontotyrrannus as Hazel stabbed it's shoulder. Groaning, I ignored my aching body and stood up. Arion rushed forward to avoid the razor sharp teeth.
I picked up my sword and eyed the monster. Holding my weapon like a javalin, I aimed for the head where the brain should be. I threw my sword at the same time as Hazel jumped off Arion and rolled under the beast. She stabbed the chest at the same time my sword buried itself in Odontotyrrannus' head.
Hazel quickly rolled away, kneeling once she was in the clear. Odontotyrrannus fell to the ground before it turned to dust. I sighed in relief, stumbling a bit. The sound of pounding hooves caused Hazel's and I's attention. Turning around, I saw my brother and his girlfriend land on the ground on top of pegasi.
"Nevah! Hazel!"
They jumped off their horses and ran towards us. Hazel walked over, eyeing my bleeding side. I pressed my hand against it, wincing.
"What was it?" Annabeth asked as they stopped in front of us.
"It was Odontotyrrannus." Hazel quickly filled them in. "Took us a while for us to recoginze who he was."
"And he hates Christmas." I snickered. A sharp pain came from my side, causing me to hiss.
"Nevah? You okay?" Percy worried, taking a step towards me.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I lied through my teeth, a wave of dizziness flooding through me.
"She's lying. Odontotyrrannus got her. I haven't been able to check out her wound yet." Hazel said.
"How bad is it, Nev?" Percy pressed, narrowing his eyes at me.
I let go of my side side and slowly lifted up my shirt. A whimper left my lips as the fabric rubbed against the wound. Once I bunched up my shirt under my bra, three gasshes were revealed. The cuts must have stretched due to the fight.
"Oh gods." Hazel gasped.
"Nevah!" Annabeth scolded.
"'m fine. Not too bad." I slurred, stumbling. Percy quickly caught me."'Tis is but a scratch."
"Shut up. There's no time for references." Percy chided.
"There's always time for 'em." I mumbled.
"Did you guys bring any ambrosia or nectar?" Hazel asked.
"Yeah, but not enough for that injury." Annabeth dug into her pocket and took out a ziploc bag. She opened it up and gave me a piece of ambrosia. I gave her a tight smile and a 'thank you' before chewing on it. Some of the pain went away and the gashes are no longer deep. "You still need stitches and you lost quite a lot of blood."
"We need to get her back to camp quickly then." Percy faced Arion. "Arion, take Nevah back to camp. Take her straight to the infimary."
Arion nodded, quickly walking over towards us.
"Go with her Percy. I'll take Blackjack. Be with your sister. She'll need you there to carry her to the infirmary." Hazel ordered. Percy opened his mouth to speak but Annabeth cut him off.
"Go, Percy. Hurry." Percy gave a quick nod and scooped me up. He placed me on Arion's back, gently leaning me forward to rest against the horse's neck. Percy mounted Arion and held me tightly.
"Let's go Arion."
Don't need to fucking tell me twice. The horse sped off.
"Gods!" Percy cursed, tightening his hold on me and Arion. In a matter of seconds we arrived in front of the infirmary.
"Holy Apollo!" Will screeched, stumbling backwards.
"Nevah's hurt." Percy quickly jumped off, gently getting me off of Arion.
"Bring her inside." Will rushed out, heading inside the infirmary and started getting his med kit. Percy led me to one of the cots. I groaned once I sat down, holding on to my side. "What happened?"
"Fought Odontotyrrannus. He managed to get me with his horns." I managed to utter out, my eyes fluttering.
"We already gave her ambrosia." Percy told Will, biting his lip and crossing his arms in worry.
"Okay, I'l give you some nectar and then start working in your wounds." Will nodded, grabbing a bottle of nectar. He handed it to me and I took a swig. Giving it back to him, Will poured a little on my wounds before putting it away. Be quickly sanitized it with alcohol.
"Styx!" I hissed, the burning of the alcohol cleaning out my wounds. "You'd expect with the amount of times I've had to use alcohol to clean my wounds, I would be immune to the pain by now."
"It's 'cuz you're a baby." Percy teased, trying to lighten the mood. I rolled my eyes at him and gave him the finger. He gasped dramatically. "That isn't nice."
"Payback for earlier." I grinned. Percy rolled his eyes, a blush forming on his cheeks.
"Okay, you ready for your stitches?" Will asked, already holding up a sanitized needle and a string of thread.
"Just go for it." I said. Will went straight to work, the pain of the needle being bearable and not as painful compared to the alcohol. He finished quickly and gave me a smile.
"All done. Just get some rest." Will patted my shoulder and left. Annabeth and Hazel rushed in. They let out a sigh of relief once they saw me lowering my shirt to hide the stitches.
"Thank the gods you're okay." Hazel let out.
"What did Will say?" Annabeth asked.
"Just to to rest. I'll probably go back to the cabin and sleep." I said, pushing myself off the bed.
"Do you need any help?" Percy looked at me.
"Nah, thanks big brother, but I'm good."
