➵ Aftermath

It was the next day after we defeated Thanos. It was also the day after Tony Stark had won the war. Tony Stark's funeral was a few days away, allowing everyone to use today to reunite with their families. Clint had informed me that Natasha had sacrificed herself for the soul stone and that only caused me to grieve for another friend.
Stiles and I were on our way to Manhattan with Percy. We were going to Sally's where the rest of our families were anxiously waiting for us. I had reassured Peter that I would see him after we met our families. Annabeth was there with her's and Percy's two year old daughter, Cara. Stiles had informed me that Noah was also there awaiting for the three of us.
We were only a block away from the apartment. The three of us were quiet. Grief still lingering in our hearts. Stiles had an arm wrapped around my shoulder. My fingers were tapping against my outer thigh.
"There's no need to be nervous, Nev." Stiles sent me a small smile.
He grabbed a hold of one of my hands and laced our fingers together. I sighed and nodded. Stiles pressed his lips against my forehead.
"Have you guys thought about the wedding?" Percy asked a few steps in front of us.
"Yeah." I bit my lip, looking up at Stiles. He gave me a soft smile. "We're planning on doing it really soon. Maybe a week or two from now."
"As long as I'm one of the best men, then I'm cool with that." Percy joked, opening the door to the apartment complex.
"I guess I'll have to squeeze you in." Stiles' eyes twinkled mischievously. "Looks like you and Scott have to share."
"I'll beat his furry ass for the spot." Percy chuckled, ruffling my hair as I entered the building. A laugh manage to slip past my lips when I playfully pushed him away. "C'mon, they're waiting for us."
We took the elevator since it was quicker. My heart thumped in my chest as anxiety flooded through my veins. The elevator dinged and slid open. We stepped out of the elevator and took a few steps down the hall to the apartment.
"It's going to be okay." Stiles whispered in my ear before pecking my temple.
I closed my eyes and enjoyed the feeling. It was something I kept craving: Stiles' touch. Percy knocked on the door. It wasn't long until it swung open. My eyes fluttered open to see my family and friends looking at us with watery eyes.
"Nevah!" An eight year old girl rushed towards me and wrapped her arms around my legs. I stumbled back in surprise and placed a shaking hand on her back. She looked up at me with wide brown eyes. "You're back! I told them that you would be! See, I told you Percy!"
"Yeah, you did, Stell." Percy beamed down at our little sister. I gasped at the two of them, tears streaming down my face. I struggled to form words, looking at Percy for help. "It's her, Nev."
"Oh gods." I gently pried Estelle's small hands from me and knelt in front of her. The little girl beamed at me. I pulled her into a hug and cried. "You're so grown up."
"I'm only eight!" Estelle said in confusion.
"Gods, we've missed you." Annabeth waddled over to us. Looking over Estelle's shoulder I saw a very pregnant Annabeth standing next to Percy. She handed him a dark haired little girl. "It wasn't the same."
"Well I'm back and ready to spoil my niece." I gave her a chuckle. Estelle let go of me and held my hand. "This is Cara?"
"Yeah." Percy grinned, looking down at his daughter. Cara shyly faced me, her thumb in her mouth. She looked at her dad before placing her head on Percy's shoulder. "She's a bit shy, but once you warm up to her, she's a blabber mouth."
"Percy!" Annabeth scolded, cupping her hands over her belly.
"What? She's obviously taking after me." Percy stared with a mischievous smirk. "I bet you the child you are cooking in your stomach is going to be exactly like you. I'm calling it."
"Don't bet on our children." Annabeth narrowed her eyes at her husband.
"C'mon, everyone else wants to hug you too, Nevah." Estelle started to lead me to the others.
"Nevah." Sally pulled me into a huge hug. I let go of my little sister's hand and wrapped my arms around the mother figure I had since the Jackson's had taken me in. She let out a sob as she smoothed my hair and swayed the both of us. "I'm so glad you are okay. We thought we lost you forever."
"You guys can't get rid of me that easily." I choked out a laugh, squeezing my eyes as I hugged her tighter.
"We would never want to get rid of you." Paul wrapped his arms around Sally and I.
"Family hug!" Estelle wrapped her arms around our legs.
Percy rushed over and swooped Estelle in his arms, Cara in Stiles' arms. A large grin spread across my face at the sight. My heart warmed and my stomach tingled. I couldn't wait until we got married and started our own family. Percy and Estelle joined the hug. The five of us just stood there, embracing each other.
"Ahem." Noah cleared his throat. "I'd like hug my soon to be daughter-in-law."
"Noah." I broke away from my family and walked over to my soon to be father-in-law. He brought me into a hug like the others and took in a shaky breath. Noah whispered into my ear. "He's missed you so much, we all have, but it was a large struggle for him. Be a bit easy on him. He's not going to want to leave your side."
"Don't worry, I don't want to leave his either." I muttered back.
"Nevah." Looking over Noah's shoulder I saw my dad. Noah let me go and stepped away as Poseidon walked towards me. Dad brought me into a tight hug. "I thought you were gone for good, but Hades insisted that you all weren't dead."
"We spent years going on quests to find all of you." Percy added.
"So...what exactly happened? If we didn't die...then what? We just didn't exist?" I drew away from the Greek god.
"That's what we believe, yes." Dad nodded.
I stood silently, taking it all in. Everyone just watched me, afraid to speak about anything that would make me go into a breakdown. Stiles cleared his throat. I looked towards him.
"Cara," Stiles walked over to us with a giggling toddler, "this is Aunt Nev, the one I have always told you about. Remember?"
"Yeah." Cara nodded softly and looked up at me curiously.
"Want to say hi to her?" Stiles looked down at Cara. She nodded and shyly waved her hand at me. I gave her a watery smile and a wave. "Use your words, Cara, just like how I taught you."
"Taught? Wait a minute..." Annabeth narrowed her eyes at Stiles. "Stiles."
"Go on, Cara." Stiles quickly encouraged her, glancing over his shoulder to see Annabeth waddling towards him. "What did I teach you?"
"Hi, I'm cute." Cara giggled.
"Stiles!" Annabeth scolded, fighting back a laugh. "Dear gods, that's not what we teach kids."
"Yeah, that's why the cool uncles do it." Stiles teased.
Cara held her arms towards me. My heart stopped at the motion as I held back tears. Swallowing back the lump in my throat, I looked at Stiles. He gave me an encouraging nod. I licked my lips and took Cara out of his hold. The toddler wrapped her arms around my neck and laid her head in my shoulder.
Percy and Annabeth grinned at me. I relaxed a nervous chuckle and hugged Cara. My heart ached at the thought of the five years I missed out of my friends and family. I took a deep breath in. I can't wait to start living again.

The close friends and family of Tony Stark stood outside of his country house he shared with Pepper and his daughter. He left behind a daughter. A beautiful smart little girl who lost her father. I had to squeeze Stiles' hand tightly to force myself not to cry at the sight of her.
Tony had thought ahead and made a hologram video in case something went wrong before we fought Thanos. I couldn't watch it. I felt that I didn't have the close relationship to Tony to watch it. Steve and Peter did, however, and they came to join the rest of us with watery eyes.
Stiles and I stood with Bucky and Sam. I would have joined Aunt May and Peter, but I knew they had a closer bond with the Starks than I did. Pepper had placed the wreath of flowers that held a metal piece with the words "Proof that Tony Stark had a heart".
Stiles wrapped an arms round my shoulder and brought me into him. Sam was comforting Bucky, reassuring him that Tony would have wanted him there and that he was forgiven. I know that Bucky was still guilty for murdering his parents when he was under Hydra's control.
The service was quick and sweet. We all said our peaceful goodbyes to Tony. I excused myself from the group to go check up on Wanda and Clint. They were talking amongst themselves, standing near the lake.
"How are you guys feeling?" I asked softly.
"As best as we can." Wanda gave me a small smile.
"Are you planning a service for Natasha, Clint?" I stepped in between them.
"Laura and I are, yeah. We...we don't have a body to bury, but we will do a service. Maybe place a headstone or something on my property." Clint said.
"She will appreciate that." I placed a comforting hand on his arm. He gave me a weak smile. "I'm sorry I wasn't there. I...I'm sorry."
"She will be happy that you and everyone is back. That her sacrifice did help win the war." Clint wrapped an arm around me shoulder and gave me a squeeze. "She loved you like family, you know?"
"Really?" I looked at him with watery eyes.
"Yeah, she did. She even approved of your fiancé." Clint chuckled out. "Even threatened him to treat you right."
I let out a laugh, wiping my eyes. Wanda gave me a hug. Her eyes filled with tears.
"I want to do something for Vision, too. He wasn't entirely human, but he was getting there." Wanda stated. "He deserves a service, too."
"I'll help you if you want." I hugged her tightly. Wanda choked out a sob and fiercely nodded into my shoulder. "Just let me know when and where."
"Thank you." Wanda mumbled. "For being my friend."
"Always, Wanda." I rubbed her back.
"Nevah." Stiles walked over towards us with a grim smile. He nodded towards the two avengers. "Uh...Steve asked for you to see him."
"Is he okay?" I pulled away from Wanda.
"Yeah." Stiles licked his lips and rubbed the back of his neck. I slightly narrowed my eyes at him. He was holding something back. "He'll explain it. C'mon."
I said my goodbyes to Wanda and Clint before following Stiles. He intertwined our fingers, bringing my hand to his lips. I smiled at the gesture. We walked further down the line of the lake. There was a bench that Sam, who was holding Captain's shield, and Bucky were standing near. Bruce was further behind. The three of them gave me soft smiles. An older man sat on the bench with his back facing me.
"Hey, so Steve wanted to talk to me?" I froze when the older man turned to face me. "S-Steve?"
"Hey, kiddo." The man sent me a soft smile.
"I-what? You were literally like forty years younger five minutes ago." I blinked in confusion.
"I returned the infinity stones to their right timeline and decided that I would live my life." Steve told me.
"Oh." I bit my lower lip. "So...no more Captain America?"
"No more. I passed it over to Sam." Steve stated.
"It's going to be a bit weird to get used to a shield, but if the original Captain America believes I can...then I will." Sam said.
"You will be a great Captain America, Sam." I smiled.
"But Steve, you...you were going to walk Nev down the aisle. For the wedding." Stiles inputted.
"Just because I'm old, doesn't mean I can't walk." Steve retorted with a snort. "I'm still walking Nevah down the aisle. Even if I have to be in a wheel chair, which I'm not thank God."
"Thank you." I breathed out in relief. "We will still be able to see you, right? Even if you're all old."
"You can't get rid of me, kid." Steve smirked.
"And you still got us." Bucky wrapped an arm around Sam with a smug grin. "We're gonna be those cool great uncles or whatever they call it nowadays when you two start a family."
"Oh yeah, we'll have our kids be with an ex assassin and the new Captain America, what could go wrong." Stiles sarcastically chortled.
"Imagine the babysitting calls we'll get." Sam grinned and nudged Bucky in the arm.
"They'll learn from the best." Bucky added.
"Dear gods," I groaned and pinched the bridge of my nose to hide a smile, "I'm not leaving you two alone with my kids."
"Fine. We'll have Wanda or Clint. Maybe that spider kid too." Sam crossed his arms.
"Best babysitters in the universe." Bucky beamed.
"Good luck." Steve patted Stiles and I on the shoulder. I looked at Steve in horror. "You're gonna need it if they end up being the babysitters."
"Maybe we should have like reality tv show where the Avengers babysit kids." Sam thought aloud. "Imagined all the phone calls we would get."
"Of you guys getting sued or something? Yeah, good idea you've got there." Stiles shook his head.
"Just you wait," Bucky smirked, "you're gonna have to call us one day to babysit."
"I'm fearing for that day."
"You know you love it." Sam teased.
"Who are you two kidding, I'm going to be the one babysitting the kids and you two." Steve joked.
"Eh, most likely." Bucky shrugged.
Yeah idk how to end it so.....
