008. they see me
AT THE SOUND OF THE door opening, Deaton's eyes immediately landed on the teenager, who had entered the room as the bell rang. The both of them knowing something made for a atmosphere so tense it was almost suffocating. The door's bell rang again, which Deaton took as a sign for him to follow the others.
A very tall man around her age joined the waiting area. He had a lean, muscular build with dark blond hair that was curled slightly. What stuck out most was his deep blue eyes that contrasted with his pale skin. "Isaac. Derek's told me a lot about you." He explained, sick of feeling the heavy weight of her prying eyes on him. In an attempt to ease the slight tension, he held out his hand for her to shake.
Valentina thought about it for a moment before accepting his hand. "All good things I hope." She said with a small chuckle. Walking into the next room where the others had all already gathered, she noticed a giant bath full of ice placed in the middle. "What's going on here?" Just looking at the water made her shiver. She adjusted Stiles' flannel so it covered more of her arm.
He'd barely noticed that she still had custody of it, and even if he had, didn't mind considering he had so many. Valentina, who had noticed Stiles' eyes land on the flannel and perceived that as him gesturing for her to pass it back, returned it to him with a curt nod. Stiles couldn't help but frown slightly. If there was a possibly that he would be able to give her his flannel again, he would definitely let her keep it.
After the party that happened the day before, Valentina came back to her sofa bed to see two different piles of clothing, one from Derek and the other from Lydia. Her cousin's seemed to be more practical that she would actually wear on a day to day basis, while Lydia's were more... stylish. Clothing that seemed more fitting for party-like events. Opting for comfort over fashion, she choose Derek's pile.
Despite living with him, she hadn't actually seen him much today. The curiosity in her couldn't help but wonder if there was something that he was hiding from her, or rather someone. Before she had left the loft, Valentina had smelt an unfamiliar scent and, as she was leaving, she noticed Isaac enter. She suspected that something had happened while she was at school, and if it wasn't explained to her what, she would likely grow to anger.
"Obviously, it's not going to be particularly comfortable, but if we can slow your heart rate down enough, you'll slip into a trance-like state." Deaton explained to Isaac, who had just entered the room. "It's exactly like being hypnotised. You'll be half transformed. It'll let us access your subconscious mind."
With the exception of Stiles, who had gone to put his flannel down on of the tables, they all took a step closer to the tub. "How slow does his heart rate need to be?" The Hale girl's eyes flickered to the flannel and sent it a nasty glare. She couldn't help but feel as if it were mocking her.
"Very slow." Deaton answered, his words freeing her from her trance. It looked as if Derek was growing angrier by the second and the vague answers that were leading to more questions, were the cause of it. No one would have thought more into his emotions in the situation as Isaac was the one going into a possibly life threatening situation, but she didn't care.
"Okay, well, how slow is very slow?"
"Nearly dead."
Isaac lowered down to the tub, his hands tracing the sides. "It's safe, though, right?" Looking up to say, the veterinarian explained his doubts on whether he wanted him to answer honestly before he let out, "No. No, not really." That answered many of the questions that were circulating around their heads.
Especially the ones concerning whether he was scared. Valentina had gained subtle hints from the ways that he tried not to look at the bath too much, and how he had asked most of his questions. This just reassured almost all of her assumptions, but she believed that it was going to work and it was weird because everyone already knew it without her speaking.
The loud snap of a rubber glove came from behind them, causing them to all turn towards Stiles, who stood in the middle of the doorframe. His right arm was raised in a high position, smiling towards it until turning towards the group, who were all lost for words. "What?" Derek raised his eyebrows slightly and he reluctantly removed the glove, letting it fall to the floor.
The werewolf stood up from where he was, but he couldn't take his eyes off the bath, even as he let out a small exhale. "Look, if it feels too risky, you don't have to do this." Scott nodded towards his friend, agreeing with the Alpha's statement. His eye flickered towards the younger Hale, who shortly after gave a hesitant nod.
With that, Isaac removed his shirt and put it behind him. As Scott and Deaton shared a look, she lifted over her head the baby blue sweatshirt that her cousin had bought her, to reveal a black tank top underneath. After taking the hint, the McCall boy and Derek grabbed him by each shoulder and pushed him under.
The icy water flowed out of the bath, onto the floor, and straight into her thin-material trainers which made her shudder slightly. It proved to be a struggle to get him to stay under, as he gasped up for air he released a large roar. Stiles quickly moved to his legs, while the girl beside him chose to evaluate the situation before giving her help where it was necessary.
"Get him back under." He struggled beneath the water, trying to wiggle out of their grip, before his hands found a familiar way to the sides of the bath where he pushed himself up. With great pride, the boy beard his teeth to all who were looking but once again they were commanded by the veterinarian. "Hold him."
"We're trying!" Derek shouted to him angrily, as his cousin let rip of a small huff before harshly pushing her way towards him. Her hands grabbed Isaac's sides and she pushed down. Her lower arm tingled at the icy water, when she managed to get him down all the way down to the bottom of the bath. Everyone looked towards her, surprised by how little effort she seemed to portray when she did it.
Slowly, he stopped to resist what was happening to him before he stopped moving over all. Gingerly, they all let go off him and moved back to get a better look of him. As he drifted back to the top, his large inhale was expected but was quieter than thought. Before any more could be done, Deaton raised up his index finger and everyone looked to him as he spoke.
"Now, remember, only I talk to him. Too many voices will confuse him and draw him out." Hesitantly, Scott nodded towards him before giving a glance to the youngest Hale, wondering what she was thinking about. "Isaac? Can you hear me?"
They all shared looks with each other, waiting for an answer, even though after the seconds of silence it grew even more unlikely. "Yes. I can hear you." His said through shivers, as it became more and more noticeable that his lips were turning an unusual colour to what is should have usually be.
"This is Dr. Deaton. I'd like to ask you a few questions. Is that all right?" It was confusing about where to look, whether it was necessary to not even dare to glance up at someone. Stiles felt this when he looked up to Valentina, who was simply just staring down at the icy werewolf, belittled to how she looked up to him immediately after he did.
A small yes was squeaked out, but it was so quiet that it could have easily been misheard. by any of them. "I want to ask you about the night you found Erica and Boyd." Scott jumped slightly at the sound of thunder striking, while they waited for any response from the werewolf. "I want you to remember it for me in as vivid detail as possible, like you're actually there again."
"I don't wanna do that. I don't wanna do that." Isaac muttered, already starting to move frantically again. This time it was different, because as he was moving, the lights flickered on and off around them. "I don't wanna do that." His voice got louder the more he said it, and his legs moved up to be grabbed swiftly back by Derek.
"Isaac, it's all right. Just relax. They're just memories. You can't be hurt by a memory." The veterinarian tried to calm him down by saying, yet all he could seem to get out was his refusal on doing so. "It's all right." It surprised the brunette how smooth his voice became in the situation, and it even managed to calm a few of her nerves that had surfaced from under her stone-like exterior.
"Relax." Isaac grunted for them all to hear, as his attempts seemed to fail and he retreated back into a much calmer state. "Relax. Good. Now let's go back to that night. To the place you found Erica and Boyd. Can you tell me what you see? Is there some kind of building? A house?"
"It's not a house. It's stone. I think marble."
"That's perfect. Can you give me any other descriptors?"
"It's dusty, so empty."
"Like an abandoned building?" The thunder returned with more fear to affect them with, as did the lights. In a much lighter situation, Stiles would make some joke recommending to buy some new ones. The looks on everybody's faces stopped him from doing so. "Isaac? Isaac?"
With that, it was like they had lost Isaac to some void when no response came and it scared them more than any of them would have expected. "Someone's here." He quavered, before harshly grabbing Valentina's arm, without giving any prior warning to his action. "Someone's here."
Staring down at his hand, the Stilinski boy suddenly became angry at how he grabbed onto her with such cruelty. Soon enough, she felt his nails begin to dig into her arm, causing her to wince slightly before he decided that what was happening was way past enough. Stiles pushed the arm down to her wrist, weakening his grip.
Someone told Isaac to calm down, which was a common action to be done in the situation, which he obviously didn't do. "No, no, no, no. They see me, they see me!" Isaac screamed loudly, kicking and moving his arms to try and break free. The rest of them moved quickly forward to stop him, but nothing was seeming to work.
"They're just memories. You can't be hurt by your memories. Just relax. Relax." Deaton spoke softly, watching him slowly calm down at his words, while he looked gingerly to Derek in hope of some sort of support. "Good. Now tell us what you see. Tell us everything." The room became oddly quiet after he finished, as shivers were sent down each of their spine individually.
His eyelids flung open to reveal his large icy-blue eyes, surprising all of them except the veternarian. "I hear him. He's talking about the full moon, about being out of control when the moon rises." For some reason, this seemed to remind Valentina of how her mother would speak to her whenever it was the night of when her and her siblings would change.
It reminded her of how she would act so sweetly as she chained them up to the cellar's wall, looking at each of them individually in the eye. But especially the night when she learnt control, the young Hale lay sleepily against the wall and surprised her mother when she came down to check on them. All while all her siblings and relatives were roaring and scratching ferociously, a six year old sat, terrified in the middle of them.
Carla walked over to her daughter, her mouth slightly agape, before flicking out her claws and pushing them deeply into her daughter's stomach. She let out a piercing scream as the claws were removed. Though the wound soon healed after she had left, that didn't stop the girl from sobbing all through the night and into the morning.
"This isn't working." Derek's voice broke her out of her thoughts, staring up towards the ceiling as the lights flickered rapidly and the icy werewolf screamed in fear. "Isaac, where are you?" Surprised at hearing him speak when they had agreed on only letting the veterinarian speak to him, so that he would not get any more confused than he already was.
"I can't see them. It's too dark!" The room had gone into chaos. It seemed like everyone was screaming at each other, Deaton to Derek for him to stop talking. While he kept yelling at Isaac, who in return screamed that he couldn't see. Yet, Stiles stood there in silence. As everything was happening so quickly, she couldn't help but look to him. He looked concerned, that was enough that he didn't have to shout it out.
"You're going to confuse him."
"Isaac, where are you?" His pupils retracted, and it looked like he was going somewhere. Somewhere that only he could go. They continued to argue with each other, but both Valentina and Stiles seemed to notice what had happened to the boy's eyes. More cascaded out of the bath before Isaac screamed once again that he couldn't see, which assured them that he was okay. Well, as okay as a werewolf who was laying in a tub of ice could be.
"His heart rate— he could go into shock." Deaton stated in a worried tone, having no clue of how he was going to be able to a werewolf from screaming at his beta about where the rest of his pack was. It all seemed to be going downhill, nothing could stop Derek from his pursuit and that only managed to anger the people around him.
"Derek, let him go!"
"Isaac, where are you? What did you see?" Valentina watched them without making any actions for the past minute, but when Derek persisted to try to get information out of him that he clearly didn't have, She pushed him harshly to the wall. A large bang sound came out as he did, not able to bring herself to look at anyone besides her cousin, who was extremely angry.
"A vault! It's a bank vault. They're dragging me! It's dark, it's dark. There's-there's a dead body. I-it's-it's Erica." No one dared to speak, not even Derek. Valentina knew little about the girl, only what her cousin had told her about her, and from that it seemed like they could have been good friends. The room was frozen in the time, but someone couldn't move their eyes from their young Hale until they were forced to be by Isaac coming out of the trance.
Large gasps were released from the werewolf's mouth, "I saw it. I saw the name." They helped him out of the bath, while the Hale girl grabbed the towel that was placed behind her. "It's, uh, Beacon Hills First National Bank. It's an abandoned bank, and they're keeping them locked inside the vault. What?" The room once again fell silent. Isaac searches the room's habitats' eyes, for the answer as to why it went so quiet so quick.
Lifting her head up slightly from where she was looking at the ground, and followed Scott's eye line which lead to Stiles. "You don't remember what you said right before you came out of it, do you?" He winced in anticipation as he answered with a solemn look on his face. "You said when they captured you that they dragged you into a room and that there was a body in it."
"What body?"
"Erica. You said it was Erica." Stiles' concentration fell from Isaac, and moved on towards Valentina. He watched her expression change at hearing the young blonde's name, but it surprised him as they had never met. Biting her lip and taking in the cold air, they all stood their in silence, waiting for someone to say what nobody else could.
