001. welcome to beacon hills
VALENTINA. THE FEMINE GIVEN FORM of the Roman name 'Valentinus'. The names derived from the Latin word 'valens' meaning 'healthy, strong', both of which the woman herself definitely was. That was the case even so as she lay, seemingly dead, on the side of a highway at the entrance to Beacon Hills.
The brunette's face had been covered in her own blood, with a possible broken nose, and the rest of her body was as unfortunate. She had countless broken ribs and could not move from her position on the ground.
Yet her most obvious injury was a claw mark. The deep scratch ran from her left shoulder to the bottom of her torso. Valentina groaned in pain as she attempted to move closer to the road, with her hand partially in the road to signify that she was there.
It had been more than ten minutes before Valentina saw, through the blood that was running down her face, a car stop beside her. When the car had stopped, a middle-aged woman came running out of it, whilst a girl around the brunette's age stayed beside the car, a phone in her left hand.
She managed to get out a sigh of relief, the woman now by her side and attempting to move the girl onto her back. The woman had vividly blonde hair, as her hands became a crimson red once she had moved Valentina.
"Evelyn!" The woman called, her head facing towards the man while the rest of her body was directed on the injured girl in front of her. "What did they say? How quick are they gonna be? I think she's dying, oh my God, please don't die!"
Her words echoed back and forth in the werewolf's mind, but only as someone else's. It was her mother. Valentina could recognise her voice from any where, another groan being released from her mouth, but a word hidden underneath it. The word definitely was not her mother's, though the blonde woman was still trying to figure out what she was saying.
Valentina's eyes went black, the sound of sirens wailing in the close distance with the cries of the mother beside her. She felt her body being lifted higher, there were now lots more voices, making Valentina frantically shake her head in confusion before what she was finally trying to say came out, as she gasped for air.
"Derek Hale."
The paramedic sitting by her side, shrugged when he heard the name. He forced open the brunette's eyes, only to see them being a dark shade of scarlet red making the male jumped away from the girl in the back vehicle. When he looked at her eyes again, they were brown.
She opened her eyes slightly, looking straight up to the black, night sky as she was being moved from the ambulance to ground in a gurney. The same paramedic who had been in the ambulance with her, pushed her into the hospital whilst shouting for a nurse's name that Valentina was unable to hear.
"Multiple broken ribs, broken nose, possible eye socket issues, deep scratch from shoulder to torso and head trauma." The man shouted, Valentina now in her own hospital room with the called-for nurse next to her, trying to check her pulse. He lifted her from the gurney onto the hospital bed, before moving away from the girl as swiftly as he could.
"Melissa," the paramedic began, barely able to be heard from the nurse. "In the ambulance, I heard her say a name and when I checked her eyes, they were red." Valentina could hear the the large gulp that came from her, yet no one would.
"What name, Colin? What did she say?" Colin wavered over his choices, leaving Melissa without an answer or telling her the name. When Melissa finally found Valentina's pulse, she was forced to look up to see that Colin had not left without answering her question.
"The girl said Derek Hale." Colin muttered, running off the second that he had answered her question, leaving Melissa in shock. Carefully, the nurse lifted open Valentina's eyes again and noticing them, like Colin had, to be red before she released them with a loud gasp.
Before anything Melissa could do anything more, the girl in front of her had lifted her small torso with an incredibly remarkable speed. Valentina's eyes sped around the room, trying to familiarise herself with the surroundings.
"Hello?" Valentina's eyes landed on Melissa, beginning to fell rather anxious at the lack of information she had on what was happening. "Honey, what's your name?" The nurse asked, an obvious tremble in her voice as she waited for an answer.
"Valentina." The girl stated, flicking strands of hair away from her face. She could feel her wound begin to gradually heal. "Valentina Hale." Melissa turned on her phone and began to dial some numbers.
"Can you lay down please." Valentina did as she was asked, lying down before her shirt was cut open, to see that a few of her injuries had managed to heal. "What are you?" The question hit Valentina hard. She had not been expecting someone to know that she was part of the supernatural, albeit she was unaware that she had seen her blood-red orbs.
"My son," Melissa began, waiting for all doctors to have gone by before she closed the door, "He's like you. A werewolf." Usually, Valentina would have just shrugged and laughed at a comment like this, but Melissa's heart beat kept a steady beat as she spoke to the werewolf.
"I'm an alpha," Valentina said, answering the nurse's previous question before she flashed her red eyes once again for a second. "I don't quite know what's going, but as you can see it's over now. I'm sufficiently healed, so, can I go?" Her eyes moved from the window on the door, to Melissa's ringing phone in half a second and Valentina was quick to realise that she wouldn't be leaving.
"What do you want with Derek Hale?" Melissa asked before she picked up the phone and waited for the lines to connect, during this time Valentina could hear Melissa's heart rate rise as she looked towards the werewolf. She was tempted to aware her that she was no threat, but she kept it to herself.
"Hey Mom, you okay?"
The boy asked on the other side of the line. Even with the nurse's back facing towards her, she could still hear the conversation. "There is a werewolf here, asking for Derek."
"Are you injured? Have they hurt you?"
"No, I'm fine. Just call Derek, I think he'll want to see this." Valentina controlled herself from expressing any emotion that would've suggested she found the sentence humorous, continuing to listen in. "Love you." A sense of loneliness overcame the werewolf; she hadn't heard those words muttered since she was ten.
"Love you too, be safe. I'll be there in a bit."
Melissa lowered her phone and slipped it back into her pocket. She turned back to Valentina, still awaiting the answer to her previous question. "I thought everyone died in the fire but a few weeks back, I heard a rumour that another Hale was alive, and I knew that this was the only place he could be."
She nodded at Valentina's response, believing her word to be true. "How old are you?"
"Sixteen, almost seventeen." The nurse felt the urge to ask her more questions but almost at the same time, wanted to hug her for all of the pain she'd obviously been through. Valentina pouted her lips slightly, wondering why Melissa was suddenly so speechless. She turned her head towards the door when she heard three people, two of which she could sense were like herself, walking towards her door.
"Who else did he call?" Valentina's nerves had already gotten ahead of her, and she was left standing up right in front of the nurse. "There are two werewolves and a human walking towards my door, I want to know who else is there?" Her demand rang in Melissa's ears before she shrugged, shaking her head in what seemed to be fear.
"I-I don't know," Melissa's heart raced in her chest but Valentina knew she was not lying. "I only called my son, Scott who hopefully called Derek." The werewolf calmed herself down, apologising for her sudden change in behaviour and returned herself back to the bed.
"It's okay, can I call you Valentina?" Melissa asked, in response the girl nodded and waited for her to continue talking. "Would you mind telling me what they are talking about, Valentina?" Her politeness did not surprise the young werewolf, but did make her smile slightly before returning to her neutral state.
"Why am I here, Scott?"
"My mum called me and said that there was a werewolf here who wanted you."
"Okay, then what's he doing here?"
"Observational purposes."
Valentina told her everything that she heard them say, but after the human spoke, they all went quiet whilst she sat on the bed, shirtless. "Um, do you have a shirt?" Melissa covered her mouth in shock before she took a coat from the seat the was in the room, undoubtably from a previous paramedic.
The werewolf thanked her, putting it on and doing up most of the button. Whilst she was doing this, the three boys walked into the room, the human turning back and slamming the door in all of their faces. "What the hell, Stiles!" Melissa's son exclaimed, trying to look through the glass to see the girl.
"She had no shirt on." The boy responded, before he was moved out of the way then he followed in after all of the others. The oldest male stood there, gaping in shock but not moving an inch towards to the girl, whilst Scott and Stiles stared at each other, trying to figure out what was going on.
"Val?" The Hale ran towards her cousin, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. She had to pinch the skin on her arm to reassure herself that everything that was happening was real. The girl had missed the familiar warmth that she received from her cousin.
"Derek."
They both released each other, Derek still in large amount of shock from seeing someone who he thought to be dead. "Who's she?" Valentina looked around Derek, before he moved, to see two boys around her age standing in front of her, one of which was the human she was expecting. She could not tell which one of them had asked the question but she, nonetheless, ignored it.
"Valentina Hale," The nurse answered from the corner, moving towards the group whilst her son looked towards her, once again in shock. Derek looked down to his cousin, an unfamiliar smile on his face, as the rest of the group wondered what was going on, how someone had managed to make Derek Hale smile.
"I'm Scott," the werewolf stated, nodding towards her before flicking his eye colour with a homely shade of amber. In return, Valentina flicked her eyes which confused both of the boys even more. "Who did you kill?" Scott asked, his face already assuming a look of disappointment without hearing an answer.
"I didn't kill anyone," Valentina's spite clear, before she looked towards her accuser, his eyes a similar shade of brown to hers and much more muscular than the boy he was standing next to. "I was born an alpha. Both of my parents were alphas, they on the other hand did steal their power. I'm a special kind of alpha, I'm a Born Alpha."
Mole-boy, she named because his clear moles, stood next to Scott, and nodded his head almost chuckling at her name, "That makes sense, simple though. Shouldn't it be something much fancier?" The Hale girl furrowed her eyebrows, rather furiously at the human, expecting a name to come soon enough. "Stiles." He offered his hand, but she shoved it away in anger.
A smile almost creeped onto Derek's face before he thought a thousand question all at once, "What happened?" He wondered, moving with her to sit down on the bed, but Valentina shook her head wondering what he meant. "I can smell blood in here, yours. What happened?" Valentina took a deep breath before looking directly into Derek's eyes.
"The Alpha Pack," Valentina whispered quietly to him, "They're here, in Beacon Hills. You remember when that man kept talking to Talia about having me join their pack to strengthen them or something like that, clearly he's still annoyed that I didn't."
The others in the room had already been talking, thinking that this was private, but Melissa had left the room to fix the fact that they though that a girl they brought in was going to die. When in minutes, she was already back up and functionally rather well, in fact better probably better than any other human in the facility.
"You knew that, didn't you?" Valentina asked, already knowing the answer to it, so instead she asked one of her own. "How are you alive?" Her question silenced everyone in the room, Scott and Stiles moving back to the two Hales, before Derek had answered.
"I wasn't there in the fire, but I thought you were in there. Your parents were stuck in there with Talia," the brunette nodded, remembering hearing their screams like they were engraved into her mind. "You were there, but not in there." Scott and Stiles stood in front of them, awkwardly waiting for an entrance for one of them to talk, but one didn't seem to occur.
Instead Melissa ran in, closing the door quickly after her, causing everyone in room room to look towards her. "You're scheduled for a surgery, so we need to get you out of here, quickly." Valentina looked towards her, wondering why there was such a large amount of urgency in her face.
"How soon?" Scott asked, before a call came for the patient in the room that all them were sitting in and for a first time, Valentina directed her eyes to Stiles. She had a feeling that he was the one who came up with the ideas, and the second he came in, she felt a connection to him. She trusted him immediately, despite her strong disliking for him.
Unbeknown to Valentina, Derek was looking straight towards her. He noted that she looked as if she were mentally preparing herself for a jump out of a window, a look that, though she didn't know, she was going to be wearing a lot.
