Chapter 2

3rd Person P.O.V

Three hundred years had passed since that fateful day, and the year was now 1993. Jason, Calliope and Nessarose had not been idle during that time though. They had continued working on creating new spells and improving old ones. Thackery had been a constant companion to them, which they were grateful for. However, the trio had decided that in order to blend in better, they should attend one year of high school. And since they hadn't left Salem in three hundred years, they decided to try a new town. After a lot of thought and research, they settled on Westerburg High School in Sherwood, Ohio. They had used magic to create all the necessary documents they needed, before using a portal spell to travel to Sherwood and to the house they had managed to acquire. The reason they had chosen to travel so far was because their latest locator spell had revealed that their soulmates lived in Sherwood. Thus, that was how the three found themselves standing outside the entrance to Westerburg.

Jason, Calliope and Nessarose all exchanged glances before walking inside and going to the office to collect their schedules and locker numbers and combinations. Once they had the required information, they decided to head to the cafeteria, since they'd arrived during morning lessons, and decided to try and get some reading done. They found an empty table in the corner and sat around it, each pulling out a book and starting to read. Although Calliope was sat atop the table instead of one of the seats, much to Jason and Nessarose's amusement.

"So, this is going to be interesting, considering most of our social interaction over the years has been with Thackery." Nessarose remarked.

"Indeed. But at least we're making the attempt." Calliope said, to which her cousins nodded in agreement. Soon enough, the bell rang to signal lunchtime, and students began to file into the cafeteria.

"Well, it was peaceful while it lasted." Jason said, turning the page of his book. A few minutes later, they noticed a group of four entering the cafeteria. Calliope briefly glanced up at the group, and recognised three of the four.

"Huh, portal images don't seem to do the real person justice." Calliope said.

"Typical. We just had to get three members of the popular clique. Then again, no one said this was going to be easy." Nessarose said.

"Especially for you, Nessa. Your soulmate appears to be the leader of said clique." Jason pointed out.

"Lucky me." Nessa remarked, and the other two weren't sure if she was joking or being sarcastic. The trio continued to read, only to get interrupted by some sort of commotion coming from where the popular clique were sat. It seemed to involve some sort of prank being played on a girl in a pink unicorn jumper. When they were done, Calliope noticed her soulmate standing alone, looking flustered and confused. So she decided to have a little fun, getting up from her seat and walking over to her, still reading her book.

"You shouldn't have bowed down to the swatch-dogs and Diet Coke heads. They're gonna crush that girl." Calliope remarked, causing Veronica to look over at her.

"I'm sorry, what?" Veronica questioned.

"Well, you've clearly got a soul. You just need to work a bit harder keeping it clean. We're all born marked for evil." Calliope told her, hiding the smirk that was threatening to appear.

"Okay, don't quite Baudelaire at me and then walk away. Excuse me, I didn't catch your name." Veronica said. At this, Calliope did smirk.

"I didn't throw it." She responded, before going back to her book and walking slightly away, much to the amusement of her sister and cousin. However, the moment got ruined when Calliope noticed Kurt and Ram appear either side of her.

"Hey, sweetheart. What did your girlfriend say when you told her you were moving to Sherwood, Ohio?" Kurt asked, although Calliope did not even look up from her book, much less answer.

"My buddy, Kurt, just asked you a question." Ram piped up. Calliope gave a light sigh, before placing a bookmark in her book and closing it.

"I'm not sure what your problem is, but I bet it's really hard for you to pronounce." Calliope remarked, turning to face Kurt, although she did have to admit that the standoff had to look ridiculous from an observing point of view, considering both jocks were several inches taller than her.

"Hold her arms." Kurt said, which Ram quickly did. However, Calliope used her book to block Kurt's punch, before hitting him in the face with it, and then quickly doing the same to Ram. She threw her book to Nessarose, who caught it as both she and Jason had been watching with interest since they knew Calliope was more than capable of defending herself. Calliope then proceeded to kick Kurt in a very painful place, before knocking Ram down with a single punch to the face. She did briefly pause to laugh at the situation, although only Nessarose and Jason caught the sadistic amusement hidden by the innocence of the laugh, and it reminded them greatly of Sarah. Kurt managed to get up and attempted to throw a punch at Calliope, but the blonde simply leaned back so that it missed her, before grabbing Kurt by the ears and head-butting him not once, not twice, but three times, and then letting the dazed jock drop to the ground. The rest of the cafeteria was stunned into silence. No one had ever beaten Ram and Kurt in a fight before, much less come out of one unscathed. Calliope paid no attention to the stares she was receiving, instead walking back to her sister and cousin and taking her book back. The three then got up and left the cafeteria, although Calliope did briefly turn back to see Veronica staring in shock, so she sent a flirty wink at the brunette, causing her to blush heavily, before leaving the cafeteria with Nessarose and Jason. No one could argue that the three hadn't made an impression on their first day, but had hopefully also taught everyone else at the school that they were not a trio to be messed with.
