#1 The Sisterly Affection

Delhi, the urban metropolis, is known for its fast-paced life. Anyone living in Delhi, whether a child or an elderly person, is accustomed to the urgency in their life. However, some people do not run; they stop and live in the moment. They believe that staying caged in the past won’t help make life better, and neither will running to reach the future. Instead, one must live in the present and cherish the life bestowed upon them by the supreme God.

Mr. Shailesh Singh holds such thoughts. He believes that living in the present and being grateful for it is the best thing that anyone can do.

He’s a businessman who works on building e-commerce platforms for selling a variety of products. In his early days, Shailesh used to be an advisor with some notable companies, but later on, he started his venture and built a team to deliver e-commerce platforms for companies. He was successful in his venture as well. Now, he has goodwill all over India, and his company has tie-ups with many larger companies in the country.

He believes that his wife, Saarika, is the one who has brought good luck into his life. She has supported him in all his decisions and stood by him like a rock.

She not only loves him, but she also has the courage to show him the mirror when he walks onto the wrong path. However, after the birth of his daughters, he has only seen success in life. He’s a happy-go-lucky man, and his life revolves around his ladies - his wife and daughters.

He’s blessed with two daughters- Nitya and Anamika Singh. The two sisters have a three-year age gap between them and Nitya is very caring and loving towards her sister. Three years is not a huge gap but Nitya has become Anamika’s second mother. Even Saarika complains that for every problem, Anamika has to go to her sister, not her mother. The two sisters laugh it off, but they know their mother is glad about the bond they share.

It’s a fine day in the house. It’s Sunday, and the premises of the Singh Mansion are quiet today. Saarika and Shailesh are awake and having their morning tea. Shailesh is reading the newspaper when he glances at his wife.

“Aaj ghar mein itni shaanti kaise hai? Roz toh abhi tak shor mach jaata hai.”

“Aap bhool gaye? Aaj Sunday hai, Shailesh. Aur aapki vo toofan mail abhi tak so rahi hai. Isliye itni shanti hai. Aap newspaper padhiye, ek baar vo uth gayi na toh kuch kaam nahi karne degi,” Saarika says.

“Mrs. Saarika Singh, usey toofan mail mat kahiye. Uska itna pyara sa naam hai, vo kyun nahi leti?” It’s Nitya, their first-born.

“Yeh lijiye, aa gayi aapki beti uski wakalat karne. Sach mein tum dono ki personality itni alag hai, lekin na toh tu uski buraaai sun sakti hai aur na vo teri. Aur toofan mail nahi bolun toh kya bolun?” Saarika glances at her elder daughter.

“Mumma! Mujhe pata hai abhi aap aise bol rahi ho, lekin aapko bhi achcha lagta hai yeh sab. Abhi pichhle hafte, vo apni dost ke yahan kya chali gayi, aapne kam se kam 10 baar uske baare mein pucha. Aur ab aap usko toofan mail bol rahi ho.” Nitya makes a face.

“Haan, toh pyar bhi karti hoon na main usko. Lekin vo jo mujhe satati hai, vo tum dono baap beti ko nahi dikhta, jab dekho uski tareef karte rehte ho.” Saarika rolls her eyes at Nitya and Shailesh.

“Mom, why are you jealous? Ab papa aur didi mujhse zyada pyar karte hain toh main kya karun? Maine thodi kaha hai unse!” It’s Anamika, the younger one and much naughtier.

“Haan, aur tu unke pyar ka fayda utha kar har baat manva leti hai. Yeh bilkul sahi nahi hai, Anu,” Saarika glances at her daughter.

“Everything is fair in love and war, Mom! Aur vaise bhi, mere kahe bina hi Didi ko sab pata chal jaata hai, pata nahi kaise? Huh, kaunsi device fix kar di aapne mere room mein?” Anamika averts her gaze towards Nitya.

“Usko intuition kehte hain, meri jaan,” Nitya tweaks her nose.

“No no! It is something else, mere bolne se pehle hi sab pata kar leti ho, ye toh cheating hui naa! Aise toh fir aap sab pata kar logi, aur phir mere plans bigad jayenge,” Anamika scoffs.

“Kaunse plans?” Nitya rolls her eyes at her.

“Kuch nahi, Di!” Anamika turns away and sits beside her father, who embraces her with one arm.

Until now, Saarika has been complaining about Anamika that she’s always running around the house, breaking a thing or two, but at the same time, she loves her daughter so much. Well, nothing is of importance to Saarika except her daughters. And Anamika is the most emotional person in the family. She might be younger and naughtier, but when times come, she becomes the most mature person in the family.

Being the younger one, Nitya takes care of Anamika as if she’s her child. The bond between them is sacred and pure, and they always respect it. Anamika might not hear her parents, but her sister’s words are like commands to her and she follows them obediently.

Nitya sits beside Anamika, but the latter turns away from her, surprising the former.

“Arey, ab maine kya kiya? Main toh tujhse puch rahi hun ki kya plan kiya hai tune? Aur tu bata bhi nahi rahi.”

“Main kyun bataun? Aap toh kehti ho na aap jaadu se sab pata kar logi, phir main kyun mehnat karun? Aap hamesha aisa karti ho.” Anamika makes a face.

“Itni si baat pe gussa ho gayi? Anu sun toh!” Nitya tries to hold her hand but Anamika doesn’t let her.

Nitya chuckles; this is not a reason to argue, but Anamika loves to do so. However, Nitya and Anamika share an intuitive bond; it’s like they understand each other’s emotions, way before they confide them in one another. Being the elder one, Nitya understands her sister intimately and knows what her little one would demand. Anamika is always amazed when her sister gets the things she wants, even before she asks for them.

Nitya often jokes that she has a power with which she can understand what is going on in Anamika’s head. Today, it’s the topic of the argument, and Anamika is pretending to be upset. Nitya glances at her sister.

“Ana, tu bhi kya bachchon ki tarah muh fula ke baithi hai? Tujhe sab kuch pata toh hai phir aise naatak kyun karti hai?”

“Jab aap mujhe samjhane aati ho na, Di, achcha lagta hai, isliye kabhi kabhi thoda sa drama kar sakte hain.”

“Aur vaise bhi, ab aap nahi samjhogi toh kaun samjhega mujhe? Isliye aap par mujhe pura bharosa hai, main sahi raaste se bhatak gayi toh aap toh mujhe wapas le hi aaogi.” Anamika bores her eyes in her sisters’.

“Tu mera tohfa hai! Tere peeche tera saaya banke toh main hamesha rahungi, Ana. Kyunki we’re entwined in this lifetime,” Nitya says, while glancing at her sister.

Anamika stares at Nitya for a few seconds and then hugs her tightly. These two mean the whole world to each other and their parents are quite assured that these two will always hold each-other’s backs throughout life.

To Be Continued.

Whats in their fate?

Stay tuned.
