LA| Chapter VI: Rebellion

I emailed my school and my teachers that I need to transfer online. My reason is that I am still having health problems that are crushing me mentally and physically. Some of them weren't so happy while others were understandable. My dad provided a doctor's note to prove that I couldn't be in school anymore. He explained to the doctor what was going on and what happened to the hospital. I had to relax and cover my wings with a blanket and pretend to look very ill. This is the only bold move I saw him do in my whole life so far. It would've been bolder if he forged a doctor's note. Teachers are a bit frustrated that I missed so many days that it's enough to hold me back for another year. I did turn in my missing work from the time I was in the coma and am still working on it after another coma. My dad also informed the school, telling them after the fire accident, I kept on having comatose episodes, which some are painful. They also leave me exhausted as well. They have me in their prayers now.

Since it's close to summer break, I will start online learning next year. My teachers told me not to worry about my missed assignments; they will grade what they have before I enter the two-month-long sleep. It's May of 2052. This madness started around January.

My early break hasn't been going well thus far. My dad is barely even home again. Where the hell is he at? He never tells me where he is going. He only tells me goodbye. I am not allowed to leave the house because of my wings. The only things I can do are cook, go online, or practice my abilities- Too many to count. As for my wings, I can fly low and slow before I bump my head onto the ceiling or smash myself into a wall.

I got the hang of my abilities in the Omniscal. It feels like the plane merged into this one. If I want to manifest things without being noticed, then I have to go there. I only use it if the target is quite far. Today, my lucky person is Blathnaid because she is more open to magic. God, I miss her.

I teleport to her when she is alone. Just go into the Omniscal and zing! Since her door doesn't have a lock, I put an invisible one, followed by a sound barrier in case she screams.

My vision flashes white while I manifest myself in front of her doorway within seconds. "Hello, Blath!" I greet cheerfully after not meeting up for so long.

She immediately winces at me, along with "Oh God" while she backs up. She loses balance as she stumbles backward. I catch her with my telekinesis to prevent her from hurting her spine by crashing onto her desk's chair. I help her bring her back onto her feet too.

"Nao, what the hell?" She asks out of pure shock, "How did you do that?"

"Can you promise me not to tell anybody?"

"I will. I am used to seeing weird things from my relatives," she shrugs, "Wasn't expecting it from you though."

"Wait, what?"

"I am not the only Wiccan or Pagan in my family tree," she explains. She is still gasping, but not as sharp. "Tell me where have you been?"

"It all started when a ghost flew into your window. He warned me of my uncle returning and my family has a history with inhumane magic and occult stuff. My uncle used that magic to turn himself into a demon and get revenge on those who caused his suffering. He was the one who hurt my mom. The same ghost who suggested that to my uncle urged me to become like him to fix his mistakes. My uncle attacked my mom and I whilst sending my house ablaze. He put me into a coma by smashing me through the wall and into the outside world. Unfortunately, I was in the same library and the same ghost ordered me to do some magic, thus I did. Now, you see me out of school from transformation agony with profound abilities," I explain all in one breath. My tone sounds strained.

Blath has this blank look on her face, trying to process it all. She sighs heavily and opines, "No offence, but your family is dysfunctional."

"I know," I admit, "My mom's side got abused, manipulated, and neglected. I don't know what my father's side is like."

"You rarely talk about your father," Blathnaid points out, "All you said he was a pastor, or priest, or whatever at some church."

"Mom is constantly around while my father is the polar opposite. Ever since my mom died after the attack, I've been lonely," I vent.

"How come you've never been in the last days of school?"

I open up my wings to her, giving her a full view. She startles back, but she doesn't trip this time. I am a little let down that she didn't notice them earlier. They are easy to spot. "Sadly, I can't go back to school anymore because of them too."

"Why?" She comments upset, "You were already gathering attention with your new look. How come you never skipped school from that?"

"I can lie about getting my hair and eyes done, but this, I can't. Besides, what I can do now can come back and bite me."

"What can you do other than magically appear and be able to catch my fall?"

Hard to explain... I am not going to tell her the whole details.

"What do you want?" I just respond with, "Money? Any item?"

"Nothing, really."

"Seriously? Want me to make something appear?"

Blathnaid goes into thought for a long moment. Does this girl want anything in her life? Does she seriously not desire anything? Perhaps, she doesn't say it because of the extremes or hormonal issues? It's her call. I am not going to give her things that she doesn't want.

She shakes her head.

She says casually, "I wish a particular person would shut her trap. She is making my year hell. You know who I am referring to."

Of course, I do- Megan. I give her a slight smile.

She does have a mouth that does run without a second thought. She isn't an attention fiend, nor a motor mouth. She says things without pondering the effects. I wouldn't be surprised what she said about me is vile. With her popularity and influence, her words are more powerful and damaging.

"What is she gossiping about this time?" I casually ask with an eye roll.

"She's spreading lies about how you told her you were pregnant and that's why you are missing school. I know that's bogus."

I snort and roll my eyes again. "The reason why I was out was that the transformation was costly. Painfully costly. I am not looking for guys. How can she explain how my appearance changes? Did she say I got cosmetic surgery? I am too young for t'at."

She shrugs and tells, "She said you changed your looks just to score and that knocked you up."

I try to stifle a laugh, but I fail. "Jesus Christ, Megan." The funniest thing is that I have been her 'friend' since Year 6, plenty of time to get to know me. It's just as amusing as it is sad.

A feminine and outgoing energy is closing upon the door. I sense Blath's mother coming up the stairs. I have to act fast.

"One moment," I inform her before hopping into the Omniscal plane with my physical body not visible. I got rid of the secret lock and sound barrier right before her mom opened the door.

"Blath, your father and I want to go out to eat. Wanna come or stay?"

"I guess, I will come," Blath replies to her mom.

"A'ight, we will leave in thirty minutes." Her mom closes her door and I see her going back to the stairwell.

I create a sound barrier and the invisible lock before manifesting myself back into the mortal world, Blathnaid jumps again.

"Jeez, you were never this startled when my grandpa appeared," I tease.

"That's because I fainted," she defends.

"Fainted?" I play dumb with a smirk. "Fainted out of fear?"

"No, ya moron, the ghost forced my body to."

"I know, relax, take the joke," I say playfully.

"How can my parents not hear our conversation?" She asks me.

I smirk and explain, "Sound barrier, and I also put a lock on the door just in case."

She nods in understanding, but I sense underneath that she has so many bloody questions that she wants to ask. At least, she didn't scream like a girl from a horror movie. That's why I went to her first because she is able to handle it.

"Spill it out," I tell her, "I know you have questions."

"Um, can you see me when you are not visible?" Her face blushes in humiliation.

"Yes, but I'm not going to stalk you. I made sure you were in your room because I am not gonna search the whole house and accidentally watch you in the bathroom. I get it- Privacy."

"The dead do enough of that," she mumbles, "I wouldn't even be surprised if one is behind me right now."

My vision flashes white while I mentally project to the astral plane. No one there. Pretty sure, what she was teasing or a figment of her imagination because I can't see anything.

"No," I shook my head.

"I was kidding," she implies, "No need to check."

"Okay, are you sure you don't want anything?" I snap to the topic again.

"I was going to finally say scare Megan, but no. Can you possess someone?"

"I haven't tried, but it feels wrong to be inside someone and controlling them."

"Sounds like an abusive lover- Those are the worst."

"Wait a minute... Is there something you didn't tell me, Blath?"

Her eyes widened, waving her hands and quickly replying, "Oh-No! No! It's just that..." She pauses.

"If you are trying to convince me into possessing Megan, I am not doing it," I warn.

"Fine," she groans, "But can at least teach her a lesson to shut her trap? I mean some students agree with her."

"I want karma to smack her, not me, because with witchcraft, curses can backfire," I smirk, referring to big and dark spells coming at a great cost.

"Or take a long time to manifest onto the person. I already had a High Priestess remind me of that," Blathnaid adds in. Her voice turns a bit eager, "Can you just teleport to school?"

"How can I? I have wings. I can't show them that," I remind her of the obvious.

"Have you tried going into hiding them?" She suggests.

"With a blanket?"

"How about making them disappear?"

"I can't make them go, Blath."

"Try again, but maybe this time, try thinking of an invisible cloak," she suggests.

I close my eyes and take a deep breath. My thoughts clear out as I try to focus on masking myself. I tried to make them disappear before and it failed. It doesn't mean I can try to place myself in a disguise. A veil that covers the wings like a hidden cloak. A bright white light with a pink lens flare covers me head to toe as I focus on masking a disguise. I visualise a magical veil covering my wings. I can hear Blathnaid step back, shielding her eyes. The light does fade away and I open my eyes. I glance to my sides and they are finally invisible. It worked! I look like a human! Thank God, it worked!

"Should we do our little end of school ceremony? We have enough time to plot and you can practice your abilities and show them to me. I will go into the bathroom stall and text you. You will teleport to me and we can do our thing," she masterminds. Her grin goes ear to ear.

"You know, Blath, I'm not fazed at all from her talking behind my back even if it's cruel?"

"I've heard her labelling me as a serial killer, homicidal nit-wit, and the reason why I am quiet is that I am planning to kill someone. Then, she gave a lie on how she found some crazy shit on my tablet while in class behind me. She lied about reporting me and the school is 'working' on it. Those unwelcoming looks make me feel nasty."

"Screw it," I give in, "I am not her friend anymore." She follows the tropes from Generation Z with the quiet kid being a killer? That's done and old. I guess that it breeds now or her parents are the same way. Perhaps, influencers in the old days. Still, friends don't say that either.

"She's never my friend. She's lucky that no one has reported her and teachers are on the bystander effect. "

"What are we going to do to her?"

Blath smiles, "I have an idea."

Blath and I spent so many days planning this event. Blath texted me and told me to teleport to the big stall in the girl's restroom that's near the school's cafeteria. I used the same method to teleport to her as I did when I visited her a week earlier.

We know that Megan usually is at her next class, well prepared. Years ago, my school added a ten-minute break for students to relax and prepare before their next class. The break begins at 10:20 a.m and ends at 10:30 a.m. Megan is in maths class after the break while Blath is in English and George is in chemistry. Today, Blathnaid is going against that.

I step out of the bathroom with Blathnaid. I use my powers to hide my wings. I play with my disguise and am dressed in a simple and elegant jumpsuit with a white top and dark at the bottom. I have acne scars, so I don't look too perfect. Thank goodness, people are going about their days. My wings are still hidden just in case my illusion fails me. I am still new to it. This disguise feels like an itchy fabric that is going to make me break out.

We press on, passing by the onlookers. I used my powers to mess with the security system. They only see Blathnaid walking by. In fact, they only see the students and Blathnaid going about their break. We head towards Room 124, where Megan's maths class is located. The window on the door makes it easier for me to see who is inside. Thus far, I see Megan, the teacher, and four other students there.

We knew this was going to happen, but that's why I prepared for it.

During the time before the plan was set into motion, I learned to cast a shield to prevent time from moving inside the bubble and I can select immunity to others. I was able to expand the shield to the necessary amounts for the plan to work. The whole school stands against time. No intrusions; no one intervening.

We both smirk. I freeze time, those who have immunity are Blathnaid, Megan, and I. We open the door and transform back into myself. We knew Megan always loved to sit in front of the class unless there were assigned seats.

"Hey, Meg," I call to her.

She glances towards me. Once she sees me, she smiles and greets me like she is the nicest person in the world.

"You're finally back?" She asks.

"I only came back to get my stuff. I keep having comatose episodes after the accident. The doctor doesn't want me to be in school because sometimes I enter a coma-like state without warning," I lie. Well, not actually a lie, but not a complete truth.

"Aw, sorry to hear that," she frowns in pity, "Why are you here to see me? Miss me?"

"That," I replied casually. My voice turns stern, "And we need to talk."

"Talk about what?" She asks, puzzled.

"I've heard you've been spewing crap behind our backs," I interrogate.

She laughs out of confusion and nervousness. Her voice turns shy, "What? I-I never said anything."

"I've heard you were spreading misinformation about why I was out, saying I was pregnant," I query.

"Uhhh- No, I didn't!" She defends.

"Oh really?" I said slyly, "How come Blathnaid told me about it?"

"She's lyin' to you, Nao," she states.

"Since when do you hear me lie?" Blath retorts with a sly grin, hiding her frustration beneath with a mildly sour tone.

"I will never dare say that about you, Nao! I am your friend! Why are bringing this up here with classmates around?" She panics into her own obliviousness.

I gesture to her to look around. She notices everyone is frozen in place. She finally realises that it's just us unfrozen. Her eyes widen in disbelief and shock as if she never has seen this happen. Actually, it's her first time.

"Time has frozen in place," I said to her coldly, "If you are honest, we will just move on. If you lie, it's not going to end well for you."

She nods, now frightened.

"Good. Did you say that about me?"

"N-No" She said that too fast and stumbling, "I don't remember. I-If I did, I was probably joking then."

My unnatural hearing kicks in. I can feel her heart picking up. Her eye also moves to the corner for a split second as well.

"Even after you were warned, you continue to lie," I fuss angrily, "First off, how the heck is teenage pregnancy a thing to joke about? You rumoured Blath to be a nutjob and she heard you. She also got nasty whispers about it too. What are you? Generation Z? Cruel! You have the nerve to say that behind our backs."

"Okay-I- I didn't think," she confesses. Her heart is racing out of fear. "I wasn't aware that I'd said that." Why is her pyrite aura blinking though?

"It's also rude that you also told classmates I was actually suicidal and Naomi dropping out for her child," Blathnaid remarks with disdain, "No wonder why I never trusted you."

Megan's fears turn potent as she tries to scatter out excuses, "Maybe you should've never been quiet? And maybe I wouldn't assume things and wouldn't accidentally slip that. You would've been an admired girl, Blath. And Nao, you need to stop skipping school, so I didn't have to come up with an excuse that you were pregnant. You were here with this sudden new look and beauty, and then you were gone. What else can I say for your absence?"

Seriously?

My inner serpent smiles from inside.

"I was in a coma. Don't shift the blame; you're accountable for your actions. The reason you never get punished for so long is that everyone trusts you or is afraid of what will happen if they snitch."

"I swear George and everyone else is better than you two. Before you disappeared, you two have acted like a Great Wall of Distrust, shutting everyone around you. At least, I have other people that will speak to me as any normal friend would do. All I wanted was to be the best I can be. You don't know who I am, Naomi, so you shut up!" She hollers.

"You don't know who I am either, Megan, so you shut up," Blath spat.

"No, you, you melancholic bitch!"

"You also don't know who I am," I add in, "We don't know each other, so stop spreading lies about strangers, m'kay?"

"Ugh! No one else complains about what people say or think, you snowflakes! I hope you two rot in hell!"

That's when all three of us experience a flash of light. The illusion fades. We are now in a hallway surrounded by students with shocked eyes. Some are Megan's friends, including George himself. I am back in my disguise. There are a few staff members nearby. Please don't ask me how I've done this because it's confusing me as well. It involves teleporting in, an illusion to mess with the cameras and students' perception, freezing time, teleporting while messing with perception, resume time while freezing people in place. People don't notice time freezing, but they can notice that they are frozen with time moving. Headache-inducing right there.

The class was real, but I teleported us out and created an illusion. I just didn't mention it. Since Megan was sitting on the fake chair, she fell to the ground with an "oof" sound. The crowd expresses disbelief, anger, and sadness. They heard everything and saw us arguing while standing up. Two illusions were fun and a pain in the neck at the same time. What we saw is different from what they saw. Instead of seeing Megan at her desk, they saw her collapsing to the floor like a drama queen. They hear all her words clear as day and how she finally snaps. Instead of seeing me, they see a different classmate that they never met before. A new kid, perhaps.

I never expect the crowd's silence. I thought they would just be throwing remarks at her. The other thing that I didn't anticipate is what followed.

Megan gets up and looks at the crowd, also in a state of disbelief. Then, her heart rate increases, and her aura fires up with anger. Anger is a reddish-orange tainting her purple shade. She glares towards Blath and I.

"You bitches!" She sneers and charges at me. Blath shoves me out the way fast enough to let her take the hit. They both plummet to the ground, Megan giving her many blows while Blathnaid shields herself. She receives a blow to the head and it slams against the ground. The crowd shouts and the teachers finally come in. One of them restrains her, another helps Blathnaid, while the other orders students to get to their class.

Before Blath and the old female teacher head off to the nurse, Blath gives me a small nod. I make my body fade away. Students look at me with wide eyes, mouths open, and eyebrows raised.

"I am the ghost of the school's past," I said to them with a ghostly echo, "Behave and good luck with your finals. WooOOoooo!"

"What the fuck?" I hear someone mutter as I walk to the closest bathroom.

I disappear and teleport to my room before I burst into laughter and victory. That was my favourite thing I've seen all year. A good laugh in a while. Revenge served.

An angry presence settles within the apartment after the moment I celebrate. I groan in distress. This better not be another attack from my uncle. Terri appears out of the blue, about to throw a book at me.

"What's your problem?"

"Why did you do that?" Terri rasps. His raspy voice sounds very hissy like a python.

"It was revenge. Justice, I suppose," I explain.

"This is not what you should be doing with your abilities; people will get hurt or worse, death. Remember what happened to your mom?" He lectures, "And why the hell did you show your powers?"

"Yes; however, I have more control now. Besides, no one was seriously harmed or killed," I try to reason with him, "I didn't plan on killing Megan. I was more interested in karma."

"You were acting just like your damn uncle with your idea of karma, revenge, or whatever. You may not kill someone, but your actions will add up. How long can you do this until it's bad as murder?"

"Old man- I mean- Grandpa, my uncle is more sadistically vengeful. Sir, I have no intentions of killing. There's a difference between Markus and I. Markus is an angry malice murderer while I am a lonely girl that needs her dose of craziness," my voice turns sincere, trying to find ways to shut him up, "I am still human on the inside, great-grandpa. You are too. We all make mistakes. If this makes you happy, I will not try to do that again."

"You better not," he responds with the same grouchiness as before, "I don't take promises. Next time, I will throw this book at you. I'll make sure it's a headshot too."

The book Physics in the Bootes' Void by D.J Tormere. Bootes Void is one of the largest voids in the universe, I think. Is my grandpa interested in science or is he bored in that ethereal library?

I detect another presence. It is drawing closer to my location. My senses tell me not to fear as if it was someone familiar. The familiar presence is not hostile, nor a wrathful beast.

"By the way, there's someone coming up the stairs and you may not see them," G.G Terri says before vanishing.

A knock outside the apartment is heard. I walk to it and answer, "McKelsey Residence, how can I help you?"

My mouth slowly opens with tears wanting to come out of my eyes. My mother manifests into view. She smiles.

"M-Mo-Mom?!" I stutter out of shock.

"Naomi," she says.

"I-I," my words stumble into a blockage, along with my emotions.

I break down crying and embrace her in a hug. But something is wrong with that. She may be there, but transparent. I end up falling through her and practice uncontrolled somersaults down the stairs. Gah! The worst part about the new apartment is that it's very close to the stairs. When I get to the bottom, I just lie there like a complete buffoon.

Mom looks at me in humiliation, concern, and sympathy. In translation, she has that Oh God face. She slowly walks down the stairs.

"I totally deserve that-" I utter.

"No, you don't, Naomi," she says. Her tone doesn't sound like a pint of anxiety this time, but rather perturbed.

"But I've killed you!" I confessed to her, "I deserve it."

She stares at me for long moments like a Medusa trying to stone her prey. She probably didn't see the energy blast crashing her heart, but I am sure Heaven or a ghost told her. The real question is- How did my father survive and my mother folded?

"What? No- My heart stopped working and couldn't bear the stress any longer, at the wrong time. Even if you did kill me, I know it was unintentional. It was an accident. Mommy is fine, see?" She sounds forgiving, "I should be apologising because I didn't see what you were going through."

Come to think of it, she did have endless anxiety and had a recent near-death experience. She was under stress and it made her body frail. Why do I still feel guilty as charged?

"Why didn't you appear within these months of sheer loneliness and change?"

"It took me some time to realise that I am dead and you guys moved. I refuse to cross over when I see my baby girl is still growing."

I slowly sat up, already recovered from tripping down the stairs. Mom puts her hand on my shoulder like I was a terrified child. "I am still here, right beside you."

Mom gets on her knees and gives me a hug. Of course, she can, but not me?! This time I let my tears fall. I am glad that mother is back, but I know we're not out of the woods yet. I feel that Markus will return and he will be more wrathful than before.

But maybe his gifts can be reversed? He was bestowed upon the dark angel. I know that I absorbed the knowledge and power from books themselves. I know what ritual he did, but he didn't know what plane he was on. I know what plane the dark angel is on. The only way to get onto the plane if the dark angel lets me in. The creature is blessed with a plane all to himself. His history is quite interesting as well. He was a high-ranking angel of God, but God played with his creation, to test how extreme he would be if more power lies within him. The angel didn't necessarily act out against God, nor did he side with Lucifer when the separation came. His power was acknowledged and he was feared by the other angels. God decided to kick him out of Heaven, fearing another rebellion. The angel used his powers to create a dimension for his own solitude. He fostered a truce for both Heaven and Hell; he will not attack either side. Those who wish to see him, need to go through pain and back. I guess he does that his way to entertain through his loneliness, or he thinks highly of himself, or he is a sadist. I admit he is much higher than humans, so that might explain why he does it.

Mom and I stayed on the floor for the past several minutes until she slowly faded into thin air, leaving me to my loneliness again.

But I know she will be back. She is with us now.
