Carnival (CW1)

A cool breeze brushed through the abandoned carnival. It had been a ghost town ever since word got out that a rider died on one of the rides.

The swings creaked and squeaked as they rocked back and forth with the light breeze. Leaves rattled as they skidded along the ground with the breeze, scattering in all directions.

....Ding....

A nearby clock tower struck twelve, midnight. As if on cue, the lights along the carrousel lit up and the music began to play. Lights around the abandoned began to flicker on as if following suit.

Soon, a few hundred figures entered the amusement park. Tall, lanky, transparent figures stood in single file lines, awaiting the moment that they would get to enjoy a ride.

Short, stubby, see through figures stood stalky  at various game stands, giving their try at winning a large stuffed turtle.

The silent Park grew to a loud rambunctious one with all the chitter and chatter of the strange creatures of the night.

Gripping onto the cold, rusted, metal bars of the old gate, I pushed it open and took my first steps into the ghost park. Looks and stares shot at me, at my solid, living, human body.

"One ticket for the swings." I brought my arms behind my back and stood as tall as I could. The ghostly ticket clerk looked me over, his brow raised as he tilted his holo head to the right side by 30°.

"Three dolla's." He held out his hand. I dug through my pocket and pulled out three green tinted coins. Gently placing one coin into his hand at a time, I felt sweat steadily forming upon my forehead.

His thin transparent hand closed slowly upon the coins, before bringing them closer to him. His brows furrowed as he inspected the currency, occasionally glancing up at me and staring into my soul with his beady olive green eyes. The right corner of his mouth curled up slightly to form a small grin, after placing the coins into a small box, he would then slip the ticket across the desk towards me.

"Thank you." I tipped my hat before taking the thin paper ticket and walking towards the swing ride.

Standing before the ride that allegedly killed one of its passengers, I took a deep breath and stepped in line. The medium in me was ready, but the rest of me was a bit terrified. I was not yet ready to join the afterlife.

After waiting in line, it was finally my turn. I proudly walked up to the vacant seat that silently called my name and sat firmly upon it. Pulling the metal bar down, I strapped myself in. As it lifted me in the air, I held my breath.

It began to spin slowly before casually going faster. I closed my eyes and for a moment I felt as though I was floating swiftly through the air.

Suddenly, my dream came to a crashing halt with a...
