Chapter 1: Nah! not for me

Danielle Hayes

"So go ahead, girl, Just do
That ass shakin thing you do..."

Devon danced to the music like a maniac she is, occassionally humming the rhythm, shaking her ass as she did, grabbing attention of couple of guys in the night club.

I couldn't really blame them.

"Dev?!" I yelled as I made beeline to the bar counter, dodging the guys in my way.

I leaned forward trying to pull her towards me but in vain. She slipped out of my grip as she nodded her head, mouthing me to not stop her.

"Just this once, Dev. Please!" I pouted just to grab her attention but someone beat me to it.

"Devon Knight! Get your ass back to work." Boomed a voice from my left side. "And the same goes for you Danielle."

"Yes boss!" We yelled in a rather serious tone that led him to sped off to the other side of the club.

"Ass" she rolled her dark brown eyes as we both cackled. "Tell me Dr. Dani, what do you want?"

"Shh! Lower your voice, Dev." I glanced around nervously. "Don't call me that. Atleast not in here." She giggled earning a glare. "I want the top shelf merlot for the high roller."

"Sorry! And be right back." She was soon back along with a bottle of red wine.

"I can't wait for the shift to be over. God! I feel so exhausted." I grumbled raking my dark brown hair that was plaited to the side.

"Ah! Atleast, your shift ends in ten minutes babe. I have a half an hour more to kill. Wait for me till then." She said filling the glasses as per the order.

"Will do. See ya later boo."

With a tray in my hands, I quickly walked past the drunk men and towards a couple of gamblers. I placed their drinks to their sides before slipping out of the area.

As I made my way to the locker room, I heard Devon, calling me out. I turned to take a look at her.

She was out of her breath from all the running but none the less, she reached me. Her platinum blonde hair dangled to her sides as she stopped a foot or two away from me.

"Dev! You okay?" I asked placing a firm grip on her shoulders. She panted hard before her gaze met mine.

"A guy requested for you." I was about to talk but she soon shut me up. "And before you say something, let me tell you. He is so hot. Like... God! I can't even explain him. Girl, you gotta go get him."

I gave her a questioning look before she sunk back into her normal posture.

"But it's past my shift time." I irritantly flayed up my hands. More in a dramatic way, that earned me an eye roll.

"You have exactly five minutes until it ends. So I advise you to go. Go!!" She pulled me along with her. Soon we were back at the same place that reeked with alcohol and sweat.

"Fine! Where the hell is he?"

"The VIP corner." She pointed out a far off corner where people were too less than usual. "Over there."

"Be back in five." I said, heading straight to the place.

What can he possibly want from me? I don't usually serve the VIP area then how on earth did this person know me?

A sense of awareness rose as I moved past all the glamourous girls in their shiny outfits, blonde hair, high heels and flings.

My shoes made it quite easy to reach the dimly lit area. The lights were dim, red and violet coloured with countable number of people enjoying themselves to their fullest.

I stopped, assessing the busy crowd for the guy. Finding no one, I tried to turn around when a hand covered my mouth.

I clutched the back of his hand and damn, I felt the nerves on the back of his hand popping out. I nervously gulped, stepping back only to be hit a rock hard chest.

As soon as I came back to my sense, I started wiggling out of his grip but he was darn strong.

"Shh!" He whispered into my ears. "Let's go somewhere quieter." His breathing fanned my neck.

Oh hell no!

I shook his hands off of me before facing him. My eyes widened as I took in his appearance. I didn't know he would look like... That!!

I stood face to face with a tall maybe 6 feet 2, lean, muscular man in his late twenties. While the dim lighting made it difficult to assess his features, his aura was unnerving.

He held power. A sense of authority.

He stood there, in his dark suit that hugged his godly body perfectly, with his hands shoved deep into his stacks.

His dark hair was carelessly pushed back while his eyes, solely rested on me.

"What do you want?" I asked trying to sound a bit bolder.

"You." He spoke in his deep, husky tone.

"Perhaps you were asking for the wrong one Mr. Whatever your name is. Maybe you will find someone there." I pointed to the strippers area. "Excuse me."

I slipped away from him as I heard him say something.

"Perhaps, I found the right one."

I stumbled my way out of the vip lounge. Feeling someone's eyes on me, through a distance, I glanced back at him once more before slipping out.

I sped to the locker room as fast as I could. Leaning against the closed door, I breathed out a sigh.

That was damn close.

"Dani!!"

Lifting up my gaze that were pretty much glued to my phone, I glanced sideways at Devon.

She kept waving at me, motioning me to come to her. Shoving my phone into my shorts, I moved through the crowd to reach her.

Half the way there, I found her talking to a guy. I tried to catch a glimpse of him but found it difficult as I faced his back.

"Logan, meet Dani, My best friend." She said. "And Dani, meet Logan."

"Hey Dani!!" A familiar deep yet husky voice was heard long before my eyes met his stormy grey ones.

"You?" I almost yelled at the sight of the Greek god earlier.

"Yes!" He smiled tight lipped. I frowned looking at Devon before getting back to him. "Nice meeting you again."

He started getting up from the seat but quickly stumbled. I was soon to catch him, preventing the fall.

"Nah! Not for me."

His face was buried in the crook of my neck as I tried making him stand but in vain. He kept on falling forward, losing his balance. I felt his warm breath to the side of my neck.

"How much did he drink?"

"A glass or two." She shrugged.

Strange. Could a glass get him this high?

"What do we do now?" She panicked.

"I don't Know Devon, you tell me. How do you know him?" I whisper yelled, not wanting to disturb the sleeping mess to my side.

"I will tell you. But first, let's take him home."

"Home? Are you kidding me?" We walked to the garage where our Ford was parked.

"No, I am not." She said opening the back seat door. "Now chop chop."

Huffing in annoyance, I dropped him in the back seat before closing the door.

"Oh! Wait. Where do you think you are going?"

"To drive?"

"That explains why our car has too many scratches and bumps." She rolled her eyes. "I am driving."

Snatching the keys, she sat in the driver seat while I did the same. Soon, our car peeled out of the garage and into the night.

"I am not going to give him my room." I glanced sideways, daring her to speak.

Bringing him home was already foolish of us and I will not allow him into my room.

"Neither am I. You know, I have peri-"

"Fine! Then why are we taking him with us? Why couldn't we have left him there?" I glared at her. Anger coursed through me at the very thought of taking a stranger home, especially him.

"Calm down Dani. See, it's raining and how could we have left him inside or anywhere else?" Her hand reached mine. "I think he's good. Just look at him." I looked at him.

He was sleeping like a baby, with his hands dangling down the seat, his face pressed against the dark seat. His well combed hair fell onto his forehead as he kept clenching his jaw.

"You can't trust everyone." I sighed. "Especially when-"

"I know." She smiled. "Just this time. Please."

I nodded, looking out of the window. Rain pitter pattered against the glass as I stared at the empty road.

The sounds that kept me awake were thunder, the rain and his soft snores.

Soon, we reached our humble abode. A not so big but a cosy rented flat. She soon opened the door before getting back to me. Throwing his hands one on each of our shoulders, we led him to my room.

He stumbled with each step. His head dangled down, unconsciously as we carefully placed him on my bed. Pulling up the duvet, I turned the light off.

I placed 2 tabs asprin along with a glass of water before leaving him alone.

"Good morning! I see, you are awake." I said, entering my room.

He was already sitting on the edge of my bed, rolling up his sleeves. He looked like someone who wasn't having a hangover.

"Morning!" He nodded. He raked his long slender fingers through his dark brown hair, pushing them back.

He quietly approached me.

I stood there, checking him out. He looked handsome, in every sort of way and in every angle. His gorgeously shiny dark slicked back touseled hair, medium straight scar eyebrows, deep set downturned Hooded grey eyes, sharp pointed nose, light stubble on his razor sharp jawline and lips...

Stop!!

"I wanted to talk to you. Will you come in?" He asked shoving his hands into his pockets.

"I believe you weren't drunk, were you?" I closed the door before turning to him.

"You are right. I wasn't drunk."

"Why did you do that for?" I asked, crossing me arms.

"To check your room." He casually shrugged. "For any sort of evidence."

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
Did he really say that?

"What do you really want Mr. Prescott?" I asked annoyed.

"I want you -"

"For god's sake Mr. Prescott, if you want to continue yesterday's conversation, then I suggest you to leave."

I reached the door knob when all of a sudden, he made me turn around. His hands were firmly planted on my shoulders as my back touched the door.

I found myself looking deep into his stormy grey ones, that matched the weather.

He stared at me, dead in my eyes. His eyes held an emotion I couldn't decipher at the moment. Swirls of emotion and a spark of frenzy.

"Do you know who killed my brother?"
