Chapter 08 || Wrinkle of the Past
"Mamma bye-bye!" Jihun waves at his mother from SeokJin's arms, making the elders smile in relief as he's grown acquainted to the man and the daycare to the point where he bugs Iah about going there even on Sundays.
Jiah waves back at him and then at the elder male who chuckles in response before heading inside the room with the toddler while Jiah takes a deep breath, making her way out. SeokJin is a great man and knows exactly how to deal with kids which makes it so much easier for Jiah to concentrate on her job. Other than being at the daycare he often drops by with Yoongi whenever they have time together and play with Jihun as if he was their own family's kid.
Even Namjoon often showed his wish to meet the baby boy but his work always came in between, which Jiah understood and assured him that it's fine for they all know how grumpy their boss can be at times. For instance take yesterday, the man had been mad and didn't utter a word to Jiah because she did his tie wrong. She apologised once and then twice even, but on seeing how he sulking and dumping more work on her out of frustration, she huffed back and didn't attempt on talking to him. So childish, never knew the man being the face of several business magazines was actually the man-child who would sulk about his tie not being perfect.
But to avoid more of his stupid tantrums, Jiah had grabbed Yoongi after returning home and made him stand still while she practiced tying the tie on him. The amount of curses she heard during those two hours were more than what she heard Yoongi ever mutter around her son. But at least she learnt how to do a tie properly and today she was determined to show Park Jimin her skill.
She was waiting by the bus stop, going through the procedure roughly to make sure she remembers making the tie, when a voice fills her ears. She turns around, hissing at the disturbance, but stops, staring at the men as she recognises one as Hoseok and the other one is wearing a mask.
But the voice wasn't Hoseok's.
"Yes?" She looks at him, staring right in his eyes as she forces her brain to recall where she's seen the similar pair of dark orbs.
"Jiah..." He repeats, almost as if smiling under the mask. He steps forward, closer to her and it hits her now. The deep voice and the round eyes that once were too familiar to her.
"Taehyung?" She blinks a few times, gulping thickly and glances back at Hoseok who smiles as bright as his personality.
"Hey, Jiah are you going to work?" The elder asks and she nods slowly, not looking at the masked man again.
"You know each other?" Taehyung frowns at her and then at Hoseok who laughs, nodding his head. "How?"
"We met through a common friend. But how do you know her?" Hoseok asks, "Anyways Jiah, he's the one I work as a manager for."
"What?" Jiah coughs, placing her hand on her chest and gapes at him with eyes. "Unbelievable..." Her lips mutter.
"I know, look we all know each other and didn't even realise it." Hoseok laughs amusedly, "You didn't answer my question though, how do you both know each other?"
"She's-"
"A fan from the past," Jiah looks away, "I met him during one his shows. I was a fan then."
"Not now?" Hoseok asks while Taehyung stares at her with unreadable eyes, sighing deeply and nods his head, deciding to play along as if they never actually met each other personally, never dated, never loved each other.
"No," Jiah's voice comes as a firm one for Taehyung making his breath hitch with a tiny pang in his chest when she looks at him with hurt eyes as if asking him why the heck is he back now.
"Oh well, that's..." Hoseok struggles to find the right words and smiles nervously, noticing the the hard, tensed stares between the two and clears his throat. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah," Jiah smiles at him, "I'll see you later oppa, I'm getting late now. You know how my boss is right?"
"Ah right, you should go. We're leaving as well."
Jiah nods, waving at him with a smile and turns away as the bus stops. Not sparing another glance to Taehyung whose eyes never left her figure, she boards the bus and the door closes. Heaving out a deep sigh, she sits by the window, glancing outside with a hope that she would forget meeting this jerk again.
A tap on the shoulder pulls her out of her thoughts and she looks up, finding a familiar face smiling at her, "Is this seat taken?"
"What do you want now?" She hisses, tears pooling her eyes for an unknown reason as she's suddenly feeling too overwhelmed from having met Taehyung and then this Jungkook dude always following her around. "Please, leave me alone. I'm really not interested in you. Why is it so hard to understand?"
"I- I'm sorry, Jiah. I'll go, please don't cry." He says softly and sits away. Yet having his eyes roaming about her frequently which she notices but decides to ignore.
Lowering her head in her palms with the elbows resting on her lap, she closes her eyes, taking a few deep breathes to calm herself down, convincing her mind that Taehyung is nothing more than a painful memory and Jungkook is the painful present. But what scares her more is how similar he is to Taehyung, reminding her of the non stop efforts from the latter during high school to make her his. She ended up falling for he never gave up- just like how Jungkook is stubborn right now, and regretted when he left her like she didn't mean anything.
She wipes her tears, looking back at Jungkook seeing him quickly looking away and whistle casually, trying his level best to act like he wasn't watching her with worried eyes. The next second, the guy springs on his feet instantly, throwing himself on the empty seat beside her.
"Are you okay?"
Jiah looks out of the window, keeping quiet while Jungkook shifts to his right a little, making sure he's not touching anywhere unnecessarily. Jiah glances at him, a little confused with his behaviour today, but before she brought herself to say anything to him, the bus halts in front of the stop near her working place.
She sighs softly, standing up and Jungkook gets up, letting her go out. With a soft smile, he grabs her hand and gives her a brief hug, "I'm sorry if I was the reason you cried today. I swear I won't do it again."
Jiah pulls herself away, staring at him with a frown and flinches to a loud voice, "Anyone to get off?"
"Yes!" Jungkook answers for her and smiles, "Go, have a good day at work, beautiful."
Jiah looks down, blinking a few times as she gets off the bus, taking a few deep breaths before heading to the building. She's greeted by the same faces on the way the CEO's office, flashing polite smiles and bowing her head to some.
"Jiah!" She stops on her track, turning around and breaks into a smile on seeing Namjoon approaching, "Is Jimin in yet?"
"I don't think so," She replies, "Is it something important?"
"Not really, just these documents needed his signatures. Will you please get it done for me?"
"Yes of course," She smiles, taking the files and looks back at the older male, "Mr CEO is late today, weird."
"Yeah," Namjoon laughs, stopping abrublty on hearing someone clearing their throat behind them. Jiah's eyes widen, bowing proper ninety degrees on seeing it's none other than her grumpy boss, while Namjoon smiles nervously.
"You seem to have a problem Miss Jiah?" He speaks, keeping his eyes on the girl who's busy muttering curses under her breath.
"No, sir. I'm sorry."
"Calm down, Jimin. Stop scaring the poor girl." Namjoon chuckles, patting Jiah's back and smiles at her assuringly, "He won't fire you, don't worry."
"I can," Jimin states firmly, "-fire both of you."
"Try," Namjoon challenges and Jimin rolls his eyes, "See? You wouldn't dare. You might be the CEO for the rest of them, but for me you're a clumsy li-"
"Enough," Jimin clears his throat, his cheeks glaring a red shade which Jiah notices and suppresses a laugh, "Please pay attention to your work President Kim. And Miss Jiah, follow me."
"Yes sir," She nods, walking after him and turns around for a short second to wave at Namjoon, making him chuckle as he waves back.
"Stop hanging out with President Kim,"
"Huh?" Jiah blinks a few times, entering the office with Jimin and stares at his back. Instead of speaking more, she grabs a necktie from the drawer and stands in front of him.
"He's just your senior colleague, keep it like that."
"Yes sir," She nods slowly and frowns at the tie, being more focused on doing the it properly for this perfectionist. Jimin watches the subtle fluctuations on her face, from the pout that dissolves and the lower lip ends up being caught between her teeth, sending a deep urge in his body to tell her to either stop or let him have a taste too. Holy heck she's gorgeous!
He clears his throat, looking away and releases a sigh as Jiah is still struggling with the tie. Jimin holds her hands, pulling himself back and removes the tie, leaving the top button undone, "You can do it later, I have a meeting right now."
"It's at 10:30, sir. We've got time right now."
"Reschedule it, make it right now."
"Uh- Okay," She nods, going through the log and grabs the telephone. The ringing gets replaced by another female voice who is from the reception, the substitute of the girl working earlier.
Once being done with the talking, Jiah hesitantly puts the receiver down, slowly turning to face her boss who seems to be having his eyes pinned on her quite strategically for he clears his throat, averting his eyes in a blink so fast that even Jiah questions her instincts, thinking if he was actually watching her or just looking at something near her.
Jimin shoves his hands in the pockets of his pants, walking to the door and Jiah gets the message, reminding herself that she's the secretary and is supposed to go with him.
"When will you get used to me?" She hears Jimin murmer, almost making her choke on her saliva, but tries to gulp it down and not make anything audibly awkward.
Her face heats up at the heavy attempt as she's staring at his back, fanning her face and takes a few deep breaths, "Did you say something sir?"
"Yeah no,"
"Okay..."
