Chapter 06 || Spectrum for a Man
Jiah has her phone pressed between her cheek and shoulder, busy talking to Yoongi while also working on the computer as Jimin is still busy in a meeting where he said she wasn't needed and should take the time to counter check the department meetings and new established deals. If it weren't for Namjoon, she wouldn't have known Jimin was actually impressed with her fast learning and situational adaptance.
"Your boss sucks."
"I know, oppa." She chuckles at Yoongi's words, hearing him sigh on the line. "So, please go and pick Jihun up, and the rest you know."
"Yeah, ask him how his day was, feed him, play with him, tell him how great her mom is. Of course, I know that."
"I don't brag."
"You do," Yoongi scoffs, "in fact you're the only person I've met so far who keeps bragging."
"You're so mean, I never brag!"
"Yeah great job, tell your boss to fire you."
"What?"
"Keep it low girl, you're at work. Yelling is probably not allowed there."
"Oh yeah," She nods, glancing at her colleagues, sending apologetic smiles, before focusing back on her work, "Alright anyway, hopefully today will be the last day I'll be staying over time."
"I hope so," Yoongi hums, "I'll hang up now, focus on your work. Good luck kiddo."
"I'm not a kid now, but okay." She says and heard Yoongi chuckle before the line finally went off. She sighs deeply, taking another file and opens an e-document, going through the content of the hard copy and circles a few places, working again on the stats until she's satisfied and smiles, leaning back on her chair.
"Someone looks happy," Jaesung's brows arch up with his words, glancing at the girl with a smile reaching his eyes.
"I am," Jiah grins, turning her chair to face him, "I completed another file since lunch!"
"That's great!" He cheers, "You're really amazing Jiah, I can never imagine myself doing so much at once."
"It was the third one." She tells him, earning a confused look.
"I thought it's the fifth one..." He sighs, "I was getting excited for nothing."
Jiah laughs at him, patting his shoulder as he stands up, taking a call for him, leaving Jiah alone for a while. She glances at the time, taking a few minutes to breathe. A smile curves up her lips into a soft smile at the thought of her son, thinking he must be busy playing with kids or bothering SeokJin to make him some mac-n-cheese. The love had started from the day Namjoon gave her a ride back home, stopping at Yoongi's place where surprisingly SeokJin was present too, still playing with Jihun and even cooked for him.
The toddler has been in love with his cooking skills ever since. Both SeokJin and Yoongi, to be honest. Despite being a moderately good cook, Jiah never received a cackle of excitement of any closer degree from her son that he gives off after having the food cooked by the two elder males.
A tap on the desk, makes her look up, instantly breaking into a smile on finding Namjoon standing there. He speaks, "How's work going?"
"Ah great," She replies with a smile, sliding the three files towards him. He raises his brows in amusement, taking the first one, running his eyes briefly over the content and nods. "Is it okay?"
"Yeah, good job." He says, "Keep it up. Now the main thing I came here for, I have to leave a bit early today, so I won't drop be able to take you home."
"It's okay oppa, I'll manage." She says, "You didn't have to be my driver for the whole week too."
"I wanted to." He chuckles, "Now focus on your work. The meeting is almost done, so Jimin should be here any moment. I'll ask him to drop you home if you want."
"Oh my god, no!" Jiah shrieks, "Oppa why him? I can call an uber, or even ask Yoongi oppa to come. He won't have a problem. But please, not my boss. That is so weird!"
Namjoon laughs loudly, shaking his head, "Jimin isn't that bad, he's just really into his CEO role sometimes."
"More like 24/7?"
"Yeah, kind of." He jokes, glancing at his watch and hisses, "Aish! I'll get going now. Bye."
"Bye, take care." She ignores the few judgemental looks from the employees and stands up, straightening her clothes as her eyes await Jimin's figure to walk out of the conference hall.
With a smile she bows to him, to which he nods briefly and she follows behind him, walking to the office. Jimin stops by his chair, taking off the drak grey blazer and hangs it on the chair, turning to Jiah, "Order a coffee."
"Yes sir," She nods, grabbing the alternate cordless from the side and presses a three digit code, holding it close to her ear, "Please get a hot coffee to Mr Park's office."
"Yes, with an extra shot of espresso?" She looks at Jimin who nods in response. "Yes, that'll be it, thank you."
Jiah sighs softly, glancing back at Jimin who is busy staring outside from the office through the huge glass. This seems to be his favourite past time. She follows his gaze, realizing he's studying the tall buildings and night lights again, having her brain wondering if that's how fascinating he finds the world.
"Mr Park?" She calls softly.
"Yes?" He replies, leaving the girl surprised that he's actually paying attention while looking lost in the view in his eyes.
"Uh nothing." She shakes her head, "I've completed the documents and re-checked everything perfectly."
"Perfectly?" Jimin tilts his head, turning around to face the girl. Amusement clearly evident on his features as his lips are lifted up slightly into a smile and the brows are curved too, making him look a bit different to Jiah. It's still the first time he smiled. This should be photographed!
"Yes...?" Jiah tries, squinting her eyes at him.
"Interesting," He lets out a chuckle, "What is perfect according to you?"
"Everything?" She says, "Everything you love becomes perfect if it not already is."
"Really? You think that?"
"I beleive that." Jiah smiles at him, not minding his gradual steps towards the couch where he sits, gesturing his hand for her to take a seat too.
"Sounds unreal." He says.
"Why unreal? Think of it like something or someone you really love. And once you love something you always see the perfect in it."
Silence takes over for a moment as Jimin nods slowly, staring her properly since morning, noticing the same ID card hanging from her neck over a different shirt today and a black skirt that hugs down her waist till a little above her knees. Her lips are stretched with a soft smile, eyes gleaming with lights inside the office and tiny, faint reflections of the city from outside. He releases a soft breath, finding himself agreeing to her a little more than last week. Did she become more beautiful?
"What if someone always falls for the perfect?"
Jiah shrugs, "I don't think it's possible, I mean people can have admiration, but it won't be love if it's planned. People or even things are beautiful because we love them. But if we love them because they're perfect, then that's not love."
Jimin looks down, smiling to himself while his lower lip is caught between his teeth. The next moment he's looking up as Jiah stands up, straightening her skirt and shirt, "I'll get going now. It's getting late and all the work for today is done."
He nods hesitantly, blinking a few times as he gulps and clears his throat, standing up as well, "Yeah, good. Come on, I'll give you ride." He tries, remembering not to say anything stupid like the last time.
"It's fine Mr Park, I'm calling an uber."
"It's okay, Miss Jiah, I'll drop you off. It's not really safe to hail a cab alone at night." Jiah chuckles at that, questioning if she drop the bomb of being trained in Jiu Jitsu since the age of seven. Before she says anything ahead, Jimin speaks again, "And you gave me a great lesson today, let me give you a ride home?"
Jiah chuckles amusedly, nodding her head at last, recalling how diverse this man's personalities are. From being cold and mean, to sweet and dreamy. He's a spectrum.
He presses a button on the telephone, "Cancel the coffee, there's no need now." He says, leaving the button and turns around, "Shall we head out?"
"Uh yeah sure." Jiah nods, following him outside the office, heading towards the elevator which stops at the ground floor in a few minutes covered in silence.
Jimin motions his hand towards his car, first gesturing his driver to leave and that he'll drive himself. The man bows to him and then to Jiah, giving her a mini panic attack as she shakes her head, "I-It's okay, you don't have to." She says to the obviously older man.
He smiles at her, almost going to say something, but Jimin's voice firms out an affirmation before, "You may leave."
"Sir," The man lowers his head, keeping his eyes down and walks away instantly.
Jiah smiles awkwardly, sitting in the passenger seat with a sigh heaving out her lips as it's almost nine and Yoongi must be worried now.
"I hope you know the way to your home, Miss Jiah."
"Yes, of course." She responds, pulling out her phone, seeing numerous messages from Yoongi and a few from Namjoon, letting her know that the former must have contacted Namjoon to ask about her, having him worried too.
Her phone rings in the middle of texting, making her sigh as it draws Jimin's attention too. She answers the call, "Hello-"
"Where the heck are you? Do I need to come pick you up? I'm bringing my weapons and Jihun."
"Geez! Relax, I'm on my way." Jiah sighs, "And you don't even have weapons."
"My restuarant has pretty sharp knives and stuff."
"Really?" She rolls her eyes, "Anyways, I'm coming in a few. Don't freak out."
"Yeah, did you call an uber or what?"
"Yeah no, not uber actually..." She laughs nervously, earning a glance from Jimin who raised his eyebrows, quite obviously asking who's it. "It's... It's actually, one of my colleagues, they were leaving too, so yeah."
"I swear to god Jiah if this is a guy." Yoongi mutters.
"No, it's a girl." She says, making Jimin choke. His head snaps at her, frowning in disbelief.
"Doesn't sound like a girl."
"Oppa! Relax I'm okay, I'll be there in ten minutes." She exasperates, gesturing her hand for Jimin to take a right. "Bye, good night."
"You-"
"Aish!" She breathes out, keeping her phone back.
"Who was it?" Jimin asks, "Sounds like either a brother or boyfriend."
"Uhm he's known me since I was a kid. You can consider him as a brother and an annoying best friend."
"Wow, that's amazing." Jimin nods, "We should have people like that in our lives."
"Yeah, do you have someone like that?"
"I... yes, one." He smiles softly.
"Branch president nim?" Jiah grins, pointing at him, waiting to be termed correct.
Jimin gapes at her with wide eyes, "Are you stalking me?"
"No, it's obvious."
"You never even saw us together."
"I heard about it."
"From where?"
"Somewhere." She smiles mischievously, "Please stop there. This is where I liv-" She stops, frowning out of the window on seeing someone standing in front if the building with their motorcycle.
As Jimin pulls over the headlight flashes at the person, revealing his identity as Jeon Jungkook the freak. As much as Jiah stares at him with squinted eyes, wondering how in the world did he even get here, Jimin has his expression stern, throwing sharp glares at the man who smiles when Jiah steps out of the car. He follows out, running a hand through his hair, maintaining a thick atmosphere.
"What in the world are you doing here?" Jiah crosses her arms, giving a displeased look to Jungkook, who just smiles coyly, taking a step near her and tilts his head.
"Beautiful," He whispers, earning a frown from the girl. He winks at her, before pulling a straight face for Jimin, "Not so beautiful. Why are you with her?"
"Wha-"
"Hush baby, relax." Jungkook smiles at her, cupping her face, "I came to see you, and- wait, shit! I think I forgot something." He rummages through his jacket and then his pants, stopping at the back. His eyes lift up to meet Jiah's again and pulls out a rose, holding it towards her.
Jiah glares at him, her jaw ticks in anger having a random shameless dude waiting in front of her apartment building at night. That is crazy! Her hand lifts up, palm swiftly coming in contact with his cheek, "Get lost." She mutters.
"Heard her?" Jimin chuckles now, eyeing him from head to toe, "Good bye dude."
Jungkook glares at him, inhaling deeply before fixing his eyes at the girl again, "Jiah, I swear I'm not playing around. How I found your address? Well, I might've kinda stalked you or something like that- But! Wait! Don't hit me! I wanted to see you, and I thought maybe we could talk and get to know each other, like you said that day."
"I said one more thing," She says, "that I'm not interested. You didn't hear that? Please, don't go explaining yourself, I know people like you. You see a girl, like her and just want her body. But you know Jeon? Go do whatever you want, if I'm saying no, it means no in all languages."
Jungkook looks down, nodding his slowly, holding the flower in his hand, "I'm sorry, maybe I'm rushing."
"Maybe?" Jiah lets out a mocking laugh, "Boy I told you to stop this the very first day."
"I-"
"Leave." She says, sternly. "Don't show up again."
"I'll give you all the time you want. I'm willing to wait for you." Jungkook says, touching his cheek where Jiah slapped him a few moments ago, "But, remember I'm always around if you ever need me." He smiled softly before tossing the rose towards Jimin on noticing his glare. "Good bye dude."
"He's crazy." Jimin grits out.
"I know..." Jiah breathes out, "Uhm anyways, you should leave now, sir. It's already very late."
"Hmm yeah," He sighs and looks at Jiah once Jungkook drove away, "Uh not to interfere in your personal matters, but you can tell me if he does something like this again."
"Thank you, sir. But it's fine, I'll handle it."
"Well that's good. I'll go now, have a good night."
"You too, sir."
"Jimin," He smiles a little, "Call me Jimin."
Jiah stares at him with a subtle frown as he steps forward, taking her hand and places the rose in her hand, "Beautiful indeed," He chuckles, shaking his head before turning around and heads to his car.
