Chapter 04 || Friend Circle
It was already eight, when Jiah woke up today. That was a mistake. She should've slept earlier last night instead of stealing time from her schedule to complete the Netflix series that she was apparently trying to cover desperately since last two months. And now that she finally did it, it was of no use. Half asleep till 3 am, she doesn't remember the dialogues or the main plot, for why those two died and why they struggled for so many episodes if they just had to die.
But all of those frustrating questions weigh nothing when compared to the adrenaline pulsating through her veins at the thought of being late on her first day as her boss's new secretary. Oh right, Namjoon dropped the bomb at her after a meeting which she was a part of too, saying he saw how cunning and impressive her personality is, and so she needs an upgrade. It being the job of CEO Park's personal secretary.
Jiah almost had a heart attack, working right under that quote-unquote arrogant man who not to mention fires his employees like changing underwears, haunted her deep inside.
"He doesn't have horns on him, Jiah. He would never lose assets. So don't worry, just work for it." The branch president had said, making the girl smile weakly and nod in response. "Great! I hope you can start from tomorrow? He doesn't have a secretary right now and it's kinda messed up."
"Sure," Jiah hated herself for saying that. But then said is said. So she takes a deep breath, standing outside the office of the one and only Park Jimin, the man that inspired and charmed her when she first saw him on the cover of Entice. However things are changing now; perception is changing.
"Come in," is the response to her knocking. She pushes the door open, sighing softly at the sight of the man standing with his weight on one leg as his hip is attached to the edge of the table for support while his eyes are boaring into some documents in his hands.
"Good morning, sir." Jiah bows.
"Morning, Miss Jiah." He nods, keeping the black file away and faces her completely. His hands shove inside the pockets of his deep blue pants that is paired with the white dress shirt and a deep blue coat over it. Missing on him is the tie from his neck, instead the top few buttons are left undone as he adjusts the collar a bit.
"Don't you think you should've reached here before me, miss Jiah? I'm sure our branch president told you about your new post and package, didn't he?"
"Ah yes sir, he did. I'm sorry for being late."
"I'm hoping it's the last time this happened." Jiah nods quickly, relieved for a moment on knowing he's not firing her. Jimin sighs, pointing at the shelf on the right side of the spacious office, "Anyway, open the third drawer."
"Yes sir," Jiah hurries over to the dark brown, wooden shelf, pulling out the third drawer as the boss just mentioned. However her expression changes on seeing a collection of neck ties and bows. For a second she's wishing he won't tell her to make him wear that like those cringy cliché k-drama CEOs do.
"Get one and come here."
With that one sentence Jiah is certain that he's indeed nothing but that cringy and cliché k-drama CEO. Moreover it's possible that he might be trying to copy them, which is quite fair for him as he's handsome, in fact more handsome than half of those make-up laden actors, he is the CEO, and Jiah is his secretary. Of course it's fair for him, but not for Jiah.
So suppressing the urge to shove the tie in his freaking handsome face, she puts a smile on, taking a look at his deep blue and white attire and picks a similar neck tie that goes well the suit. Jimin watches her with his tilted at an angle, while she's busy arranging the rest of the ties back in place before closing the drawer.
Her heels click with each step that she takes towards him, wearing a white button down blouse and a beige colored skirt that fits her slender waist and goes down, stopping an inch or two above her knees. He stands straight, fixing his eyes on the mirror, now looking at his own reflection as Jiah holds out his tie for him.
"What are you waiting for? Be quick, I don't have the whole day just for you to do my tie."
Jiah stares at him in despair. All those ties he ever wore for the cover shoots for magazines weren't made by him? He doesn't know how to wear a tie? And he's the CEO? Great!
"Sir, I- uhm fine," She sighs deeply, replaying the clips of k-dramas to remember how they do the tie, for she has zero knowledge of the task as well. Secretary Kim did a good job, but his boss was super handsome and wanted to marry her, so the good job pays off.
Jiah sighs again, internally freaking out when the tie doesn't look like how it's supposed to look. The fear in her eyes becomes visible gradually as she steals a brief glance at the man who is lost in his own world, looking at his phone. She closes her eyes, nibbling on her lips as she tries her hardest to remember how Secretary Kim did the tie, but nothing happens.
"I can't beleive you, miss Jiah." Jimin sighs, pushing her hands away as he pulls out the tie and gives it to her, "It's just a tie, how can you not know this?"
Jiah frowns at him, I can say the same to you, asshole! "I'm sorry sir, I just studied business management, actually my job requirements didn't mention about neck ties. Otherwise I would've learnt it too."
Jimin's eyebrows arched up, looking visibly fazed by the girl's words, for none of his past secretaries ever dared to even open their mouth in front of him. He nods slowly, putting the tie on the table and takes a step forward, "Take the meeting documents, there's meeting. We don't wanna be late." He states before walking ahead towards the door, almost making Jiah laugh at his loss of words.
"Yes!" She whispers to herself for having such an amazing comeback that even the CEO couldn't help but shut his mouth.

"Hey champ,"
"Yoo'gi uncah!" Jihun wiggles in his mother's arms, desperately wanting to be set free so he could just quickly run to his favourite person on the entire planet. She chuckles seeing the never-dying enthusiasm from the toddler as he extends his tiny arms out, leaning forward for Yoongi to carry him.
As they head inside the restaurant, to Jiah's surprise it's mostly looks empty today, which is rarely ever the case, especially with all famous korean cuisines and other asian dishes served at this place. But acknowledging the time, it's already a little late in time as having left later from office and then taking Jihun to the park when he started whining watching some kids playing there, it stole a bit of time and pushed the clock to 9:15 pm now.
Yoongi stops by a large door, opening the entrance of the always much quieter and elite part of his restuarant where special reservations are required to get an entry. But being almost-sibling like best friends with the owner of the place brought Jiah a lot of advantage. She could swear on her life, she never paid to have a peaceful meal here, just eat well, that's what Yoongi said mattered.
Jiah follows him in, not minding the two people sitting on one of the booths, until her eyes spare a glance at the taller, silver headed man, realising it's the branch president.
"Hey Jiah," The elder smiles.
"Hello, sir." She bows quickly, earning a weird look from Yoongi and a chuckle from the other man. "I didn't know I'd be seeing you here..."
"Ah we just came to visit Yoongi." He says and turns to the said male, "I'm kinda disappointed that you didn't tell her about me."
"No, look, I have a good reason for that." Yoongi says in defence, "But first, Jiah, meet him, Hoseok. and Hoseok, Jiah."
"Hello, nice to meet you." Jiah smiles, shaking hands with man as flashes a shaped smile that stretches perfectly on his face, making his cheeks go up and the eyes to scrunch smaller.
"Nice to meet you too." He says, "Have a seat."
"Oh uhm" Jiah hesitates, glancing at Yoongi and then Namjoon as if asking for permission from authorities, making them laugh. Yoongi pats her back, nodding his head in assurance as he gestures her to sit.
"Ah Jiah-ssi, it's fine, we're not in office right now. So you can stop seeing me as the branch president and treat me like you do to Yoongi." Namjoon says with a smile.
"Ah yeah, thank you sir." She nods slowly.
"Wow, I don't think you give me that much respect." Yoongi says, earing a glare from her, making the other two laugh while Jihun is busy fiddling with his earrings.
"Oppa...?" Jiah looks unsure, glancing at Namjoon and Hoseok, who smile fondly, nodding as if saying, whatever makes you comfortable. She smiles widely, almost letting out a giggle, gradually picking up on how sweet these too are.
"Who is this little boy here?" Hoseok asks, cooing at the toddler in Yoongi's arms, who is completely unfazed by the elders chattering.
"Ah right, I forgot to introduce him." Jiah says, taking Jihun from Yoongi which makes the him whine a little, but quietens when Yoongi stands nearby, letting the kid play with his hand, "He's my son, Jihun. He's two years old."
Hoseok chokes on thin air, staring at Jiah with an astonished expression, "Your son? But... but you look so young..."
Jiah chuckles at his response, being too used to this kind of reaction from people. Yoongi laughs a little, patting her head and nods, "Yeah she is young, and had him during college."
"Oh well so you're-"
"I'm a single mother." Jiah says softly, waiting for another reaction, which soon softens Hoseok's face. "What happened? It's fine, actually y'know people think it sucks to be a single parent. But I believe it sucks more to be around someone who's not right for you and doesn't really care about your child."
"See? I knew it! I knew this girl is something else!" Namjoon cheers, "I saw it the day you came for the interview!"
Jiah laughs at exaggerated response from Namjoon, followed by Yoongi who is now sitting sitting next to her, holding Jihun from taking the glasses and drop them on the floor.
"Well, you're right." Hoseok nods, "I'm sure your son brought you a lot of happiness than anyone else did."
"Yeah, that's true." She smiles.
"Anyways, your son is really really adorable." Namjoon says, "I mean I guessed he must be cute, but this cute?"
"Yeah it's because I'm beautiful." Jiah jokes, making the elders laugh as they nod in agreement, covering up the fact that Jihun's dad is no less than Jiah herself. With those round, dark eyes and thin lips decorated with a mole on the lower one that Jihun inherited too, was nothing but pure beauty in Jiah's eyes. And it would be a huge lie if she said Jihun didn't remind her of him.
But what's happened, has happened.
They continue talking and joking, having a great meal together after a tiring day at work. It was fun to have some light hearted conversation and get to know each other better. Both Namjoon and Hoseok were pretty much like Yoongi, the only difference being that Hoseok was more open about his thoughts and feelings, and Namjoon had an attractive habit of tackling everything calmly and smartly. Meanwhile Yoongi was known to spit fire every now and then if things aren't going how he wants, even his impulsive decisions, unlike Jiah, where much thoughtful and productive which always had her questioning if the man could see future to know the outcome.
Namjoon as already known worked in the Park Inc. for nearly nine years now, and also grew a lot close to the CEO, as what he told. Hoseok on the other hand, worked as an event manager for almost five years in the States, and had recently returned to visit his family on a break.
"Really you did that?" The guys look amused, staring at Jiah with wide eyes as she nods, holding her laughter, also trying to feed Jihun without him making a mess.
"Yeah, he was like miss Jiah you don't know how do a tie? I wanted to tell him the same thing! He doesn't know it either! And, when I got the job no one told me I'd've to be a babysitter to a man who's probably older than me and is a CEO!" She exasperates, "Why didn't you tell me Namjoon oppa?"
"I'm sorry, I had no idea he'd be doing something like this. But honestly, I cannot do anything, he doesn't listen to me about anything other than buisness." The elder sighs, "He's so stubborn I swear to god."
"I know, and rude too."
"Yeah," He laughs, "You're amazing Jiah, nobody ever dared to speak like that about him. You're probably the first one."
"Yeah, I'm sure no one can be as daring as her." Yoongi jokes.
"Amazing!" Hoseok laughs out loudly, leaning on back on seat as he claps his hands.
She grins, shrugging her shoulders and says, "Please don't tell him, he will fire me."
"Ah don't worry, my lips are sealed." Namjoon laughs.
