Day 4
"Koipaw!" Solsticefall cheered, her eyes landing on the pelt of her sleeping apprentice. "Get up, it's time to go to the Moontree!" Sleeping peacefully inside the nest lay Koipaw, the medicine cat apprentice. Of course, since all apprentices are lazy, mentors have to kick them out of the den and force them to face the outside world. Koipaw's eyes fluttered open the slightest and Solsticefall pushed the apprentice up to her feet.
"Wow, already?" Koipaw yawned and stood up, stretching a hind leg.
"Yep! That means you gotta get up and go!" Solsticefall urged, prodding her up and out of the den.
"But doesn't that take physical effort?" Koipaw protested and got shoved out into the den and forced into the bright sun overhead. Solsticefall came out behind her and already began to push the apprentice out of the camp, to which Koipaw moaned.
"Come on, you gotta see your ancestors," Solsticefall rolled her eyes at the lazy apprentice, "Rather have Moonlightning take you there? You might get to meet our ancestors even better!" She stepped over toward the warrior's den, where the deputy could be found resting.
"Nope, let's get going!" Koipaw scurried to her paws, skidding to a stop next to Solsticefall.
"Good, I see I've already taught you well and it's not even the first day!" Solsticefall said as the two left camp and traveled out of the territory. She didn't notice her apprentice turn around, just in case the deputy was following them.
"How far is it?" Koipaw asked, looking around at the foliage around them with round eyes.
"I think we could try some of that . . . bonding, cats talk about while we wait," Solsticefall answered. "Or . . ." a mischievous glint flashed across her eyes, "we could always plan what we're going to do when Moonlightning finally kills Mackstar."
"Ooh, that sounds fun! Just like the genocide I used to do back hom- I mean, bonding sounds nice!" Koipaw said in one breath. Silence passed throughout the two as they stared at one another, waiting for the other to make a move. Solsticefall raised an eyebrow because cats now have them and Koipaw tried to act like it never happened.
Finally, the mentor broke the silence. "Genocide? Should I be worried?"
"Psh, no, I left my good knives at home," Koipaw grinned, covering up the mistake she let slip by. "Let's get going!"
"Sure," Solsticefall muttered, not believing her apprentice one bit.
Koipaw rolled her eyes, "What does the Moontree look like?"
"Well, it's one of the biggest trees that I've seen, and that's how we get to StarClan. Come on! We're almost there!" the medicine cat dashed off towards the large silhouette of the grand tree. Koipaw tried to follow, only to stumble on a big patch of leafy vines.
"Now, I want you to listen to me, got that?" she instructed, locking eyes with her apprentice and ignoring the trip.
"Yes si-ma'am!" Koipaw recovered from her blunder quickly, standing up slightly taller than before and looking confident.
Solsticefall raised an eye to her apprentice. "Listen up, in order to enter StarClan, you must take a deep breath and relax, and then lie down at the trunk." Solsticefall went over to the tree and sat down. "Like this," she demonstrated the act. "Got it?"
Koipaw tried her best to copy the action, tucking her hind legs in just like Solsticefall. Solsticefall took a breath and pressed up the tree, slowly exhaling her breath into the air and falling into a deep slumber.
Koipaw watched her mentor's eyes close, then relaxed into her own sleep. Solsticefall opened her eyes and saw a misty forest. No cats hung out in the branches or lay out in a short nap. Instead, it was quiet and bare.
"Koipaw?" she called out.
"Yeah?" Koipaw appeared behind her and stared into the foggy forest as well.
"Good, now," Solsticefall looked around the field. "Do you have anyone you're looking for particular?" the back of her paws twitched, seeming to want to see someone special. Her voice echoed throughout the trees and spread into the air like a smoke cloud.
"Should I be?" Koipaw admired the tall trees.
"It depends," Solsticefall whispered, looking into her apprentice's eyes. "Is there someone you're scared of?" she taunted, advancing upon the smaller cat.
"No," Koipaw said, mildly embarrassed, "I'm not afraid of Moonlightning, I'm afraid for Mackstar's safety." Solsticefall smiled, admiring her apprentice's bravery.
"Ah, so you don't mind if Moonlightning joins us here?" Solsticefall asked curiously.
"No, not at all!" Koipaw claimed.
"The next time we go, I shall bring Moonlightning then," Solsticefall answered.
"But how would she do that?" Koipaw tilted her head in confusion.
"It's Moonlightning, they'll do anything," Solsticefall replied. "Anyway, back to the question, do you know any of the dead elders of DiscordClan?"
"Uh, Anncoclaw?" Koipaw listed from the top of her head.
Solsticefall shook her head. "There's Slushytail, my old mentor." the medicine cat commented, letting her tail curl around her paws at the thought of her old mentor.
"Slushytail? Sounds interesting." Koipaw tilted her head.
"Aquafur, Duskwater, even Salemfire," Solsticefall explained.
"I think I've heard of Duskwater," Koipaw mumbled.
"Good, then we'll begin the ceremony now," Solsticefall said, jumping in front of Koipaw. The apprentice backed up when the tortoiseshell stood in front of her, and tried to make herself look taller.
"Koipaw, is it your wish to enter the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat?"
"Yes!" Koipaw exclaimed, eyes lit up with excitement.
"Then come forward,"
Koipaw stepped forward.
"Warriors of StarClan, I present to you this apprentice. She has chosen the path of the medicine cat. Grant her your wisdom and insight so that she may understand your ways and heal her Clan in accordance to your will." she chanted softly.
"Koipaw! Koipaw! Koipaw!" a soft echo around the forest sang out for the new apprentice. Koipaw watched in wonder as translucent cats appeared around her, whispering her name.
"Well, Koipaw," Solsticefall said, her figure shimmering as she faded away. "I welcome you as a full-fledged medicine cat apprentice of DiscordClan."
Solsticefall's eyes snapped open. She looked around to see her apprentice awaken beside her, blinking her eyes. "Should we head back to camp now?"
Koipaw nodded, yawning.
"I want to tell you this, even that you've taken the path of a medicine cat, you might find yourself teaching or doing warrior tasks, think you're up for it?" Solsticefall questioned, as they walked back to the familiar territory and camp of DiscordClan.
"Yeah!" Koipaw agreed, lashing her tail. "I'm ready!"
"Good, because if anything happens and Mackstar is suddenly killed, you and I are going to be in a wild ride."
-- a skipping of time occurs --
[what the heck is with the fancy title?]
Lambpaw had settled in the midst of the clearing, blue gaze switching to glance around camp.
Mackstar emerged from her den. The she-cat gave a polite nod to Lambpaw, and then she carefully took her place upon the Highrock, springing up with a long stride.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!
Everyone woke up and gathered, as asked to do, including Koipaw, who was itching with excitement to see Lambpaw's ceremony. After a quick nod at the medicine cats, Mackstar composed herself and fully faced the Clan.
"I, Mackstar, leader of DiscordClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Lambpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?" Mackstar asked, presenting the oath to Lambpaw.
"I do," Lambpaw answered, tail tip twitching.
"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Lambpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Lambtuft. StarClan honors your optimism and kindness, and we welcome you as a full warrior of DiscordClan." Mackstar finished, resting her muzzle on Lambtuft's head.
"Lambtuft! Lambtuft!" cats called, excited for the new warrior.
"Next up, Koipaw," Mackstar proclaimed, gesturing toward the other apprentice. The apprentice sprang up from her spot next to her totally amazing and generous mentor Solsticefall and raced up to the leader. Koipaw stared down at her mentor with a 'look at me now' look. Clearly, the mentor and apprentice still fought with one another like little kits.
"Because this is DiscordClan and I am the ultimate dictator," Mackstar ignored the glint of suspicion in Moonlightning's eyes, "we are going to ignore the common rules as medicine cats give their apprentice their medicine cat name." Solsticefall's jaw dropped but didn't protest. "I, Mackstar, leader of DiscordClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help she will serve her Clan for many moons. Koipaw, do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"
"I do!" Koipaw chirped. Though from the crowd Solsticefall felt like her apprentice had something else on her mind.
"Then by the powers of I give you your true name as a medicine cat. Koipaw, from this moment you will be known as Koigaze. StarClan honors your eagerness, and we welcome you as a full medicine cat of DiscordClan."
"Koigaze! Koigaze!" the Clan cheered for the new apprentice.
The new Clan of DiscordClan celebrated with a party for their two new people. Even Renflight celebrated with them from the elder's den. With two medicine cats, three warriors, a deputy, and leader, nothing could go wrong. DiscordClan would live on and on and never die out.
That is, until a border patrol happened to go out and run into something that changed their future...
I'm pretty sure the first part was written by Koi and then I took over the second part? I'm not too sure anymore. Oh well, written by Koi and Solstice
