Chapter Two

Down his hall, Jinx hears a ruckus. Someone is yelling at another to wait for permission to enter the office. The only one who dares to try and force their way in would be...

BLAM! The door swings wide open.

"Jinx, are you prostituting my property now without telling me?" The voice of his younger brother scalds him in so many ways.

Be it because the scoundrel actually called his throw-away lover his property or because he insinuated that he was crude enough to sell someone's body. Ruthless they were, but they weren't savages. Peter always made Jinx's fist eager to punch.

"This is interesting, Peter. You remembered the old crow you kept flightless in a cage just today. After three whole years."

Peter scowls at the remark but responds, "Whether I remembered him or not is not the concern, Jinx. Why did I see an Alpha leave his manor?"

"They fucked." Peter's brother doesn't beat about the bush.

The younger brother stays still for a moment but then lifelessly chuckles. "Eh, someone would still want something so broken. It must be because it's mine."

"We didn't raise you to talk that way about anyone. Alphas don't own anything. Whether it's a Beta or Omega, our respect and attention is solely for them. To protect them because we are the strongest."

"Talion has been with me for decades, Jinx. What more can you need to prove he's mine? I'm the one who changed him, remember? I'm the one who came out on top!"

The words from his younger brother are laced with arrogance and greed, but in them is also a heavy pinch of guilt. Jinx knows that, truthfully, Talion will never be replaced in Peter's heart, but he will be the deepest thorn within it. Peter will always blame himself for taking away the strength and power of his most beloved.

"In his Omega state, he is the same as the rest. Talion needs help through his heat. Only Alphas can provide that, and if you continue to forget about him, then I will ask other Alphas to intervene. Trust me, they don't think of him as broken. In fact, many of them say he's uncharacteristically enthusiastic for an Omega."

Something dark stirs within Peter's eyes. Something carnivorous and rabid.

"I want you to stop sending your gigolos to him. Suppressing his urges can be done by a simple touch or order from me."

Jinx wants to throw a book at him. "But as you know, brother, those methods cause a horrible backlash, don't they? The Omega becomes twice as painful every passing heat that they don't consummate fully with an Alpha."

"I'll help him deal with it. Just stop sending him men."

The grey-haired reaper slams the door shut on his way out. Everyone calls Peter the Grey Reaper because of his grey hair and bloody reputation. Jinx doesn't look much different than his younger brother, but at least he's more emotionally stable.

In appearance, the only apparent difference between the two is that Jinx got settled with the dark red burgundy hair of their rose spirit mother. He also inherited her powers versus that of his father, like Peter.

Peter could disappear and reappear, stealthfully hunting and killing anything and anyone. The younger brother could even play with others' emotions, such as fear. Jinx's talents were less applicable on missions. Although stronger, his powers could not be hidden; therefore, he could not compete with Peter's silent assassin aura.

It's hard to sneak up on people when you smell like roses.

Alas, the two were like water and oil, but their brotherly love was there. Only Jinx was finding it difficult to surrender to it. That idiot brother of his actually came to him because of Talion—such audacity.

You're the reason Tal suffers every day!

But he can't say anything. Peter must never find out the truth, least of all from Jinx. He promised Tal to be quiet.

That's what you made me promise, Talion, but I don't want to see you both like this anymore. Hurry up and get this done.
