27 [A Flickering Name]

"Percy said he'd come by soon." Bianca spoke. Nico couldn't hear her. His sister brushed some of his hair out of his face. She bit her lip as she pretended she couldn't feel the pain of Annabeth's name.

"Annabeth," Nico let out. Bianca's mask cracked.

Nico felt sick as Annabeth's name rang in his mind. His stomach dropped and he swore he would have puked if he had anything in his system. Every nerve he had tingled and sent pain to his body.

"We.. We have to help her." Nico stammered out. Outside the room, there were screams for all types of medical tools. Nico has no idea how to use them, or even what medics were really saying. Everything seemed to be in some medical jargon, and the words he did make out felt like they were underwater.

Bianca was at a loss of words. She grimaced and looked out. She could feel her, Nico knew she could.

So why wasn't she doing anything?!

The cloth door that hid the room from others blew as chaos continued. She grabbed Nico's wrists and held them. Nico pulled at her, shifting his hips as an attempt to get freed. His body was stiff and uncooperative.

"Bianca, we have to help her!" Nico said, he felt tears well up in his eyes. His chest was tightening and his entire body felt too tight. The reminder of death weighed heavy in his skull like an intense migraine.

"Nico, we can't." Bianca said. Her voice was barely above a whisper. Her lips were pursed as she blinked back tears. Her hands tightened on his. Nico let the overwhelming amount of tears collected fall down his face.

"Yes we can, please Bia, we need to help her!"

Nico didn't know why he needed to save her. After all, she had slept with his ex, pinned his boyfriend as a virgin father, and even slept in said boyfriend's cabin last night. Technically Nico owed her nothing, he wasn't suppose to want to help her.

Panic seized him as he realized that Annabeth's name was fading. It flickered in his mind. Nico concluded this was worse than having her die.

Her heart would pull through, and her spirit would stay with her, just to be yanked by Thanos a minute later. It was almost as if she was being dragged towards death. It was cruel.

Nico could tell Bianca felt something despite her efforts to ignore it. He saw the way she flinched whenever the weight of Annabeth's soul came crashing back to the land of the living. As her life flickered, and Nico remained restrained, the siblings both felt her spirit.

Bianca compared it to a glitch. Except it was a human glitch, and caused her agony. She choked back a scream as Annabeth's name finally faded. She hadn't been around death too often to tell if this was a good or a bad thing.

Nico was still sobbing. He pulled at Bianca's hands. She finally let him go, just to pick him back up when his legs refused to work.

Percy burst in, he looked destroyed.

"It's Annabet–"

"Go," Nico said.

He understood, he knew. It was okay.

Annabeth's name was gone. The dull ache of pain the only memory she could serve to really know that she daughter of Athena had gone to battle with death.

Bianca hoped she won.
