Chapter 10

Lilith's body was draped over the settee, her hair laying in waves across the arm of it. Her tiny frame barely even covered half of her makeshift bed. She was fast asleep and her light breaths were the only noise to fill the common room.

At least, until Draco Malfoy headed down the stairs, rubbing his eyes. He'd had an awful night's sleep after his confrontation with Lilith. He spotted her and suspired heavily as he saw the book wide open on the floor. He stumbled over to her, lifted the book and tucked it under the edge of her cloak.

He thought she smiled in her sleep - then he realised how insane he was being, and rushed out of the Slytherin common room as hastily as he could.

Lilith awoke about an hour later. Her brown eyes bust open wide with fear as she fumbled around for Magick Moste Evile, and grinned when she saw it under her cloak. She minimised it again and put it back in safety. "I fell asleep, I couldn't have put it there," she mumbled to herself.

She straightened out her clothes with a quick charm and stretched her legs, wandering aimlessly around the large room. Eventually, she decided it was time to leave and head down for breakfast - it was nearing 7:30.

Upon her arrival, Lilith discovered Draco sitting towards the middle of the dark table, isolated. His face showed only bewilderment.

"Draco?" she mumbled under her breath as she approached him. "What's the matter?"

"You are," he said calmly. His hair was a mess, more so than usual, and his tie was extremely crooked - Lilith had never seen a more pitiful sight, really. There was no way it was merely her fault. For certain, something else was on Draco's mind.

Lilith shifted awkwardly on her feet, stopping to tap every now and then. "What did I do?"

"Nothing," Draco shrugged, uninteresting in conversing with her any longer. All of a sudden, students flooded into the Great Hall. Lilith repeated Draco's action and settled down beside him. He glanced at her curiously, receiving no sort of response.

"Look, Draco, if you could forget about the book-"

"How could I?"

"Well, why can't you?"

"You attacked me, Lovell."

Lilith nodded, "Yes, but I'm not going to be using any of its contents against you."

"How in bloody hell do you expect me to trust you?"

She coughed lightly; falsely, leaning forwards and closer to Draco. Her coffee-coloured eyes burned into his iron ones - they brought heat to his cold heart. Lilith told him, "Listen, Draco. From what I've observed, you're not very happy with your little cronies. Imagine what we could do if we were in this together."

"You're suggesting that we work together on this?" Draco raised an eyebrow at the girl in front of him. "Lovell, we're eleven, we haven't even learned the basics yet."

"You haven't," she hurled back. "Some of the things in that book might interest you, Malfoy."

"I thought you were meant to be..." Draco trailed off, choosing his words wisely, "good."

Lilith scoffed, "Yeah, everyone seems to think that."

"Then why aren't you?"

"I can't afford to be walked all over, Draco. I'm a lot more powerful than you might think. My bet is I haven't even discovered half the things I can do quite yet. I want to find out everything."

"You just think you're superior, Lovell."

"What, and you don't?" Lilith burst into laughter as she spotted the Golden Trio. She fiddled with her fingers, anxious for Draco to agree so they could just hurry up and get the hell on with it.

"I never said I don't," Draco chuckled along with her. "Sure, Lovell - on one condition."

"What's that?"

"You prove to me why the hell I should."

"Deal, Malfoy. Meet me at the Black Lake at five thirty, sharp."

With that, Lilith grabbed a slice of toast to go and left Draco by himself. She felt him watch her as she walked away, earning a small smirk on her lips. For the first time in a while, Lilith had an almost joyful spring in her step as she strode back to the Slytherin Dungeon. Eyeing the green lamps hanging from the ceiling as she arrived, she smiled.

It was a place which finally felt like home.

Her feet automatically took her to her dorm, and she shrugged before entering the room. Her bed was completely as she left it - but, undoubtedly, it made sense why Daphne had stopped her from coming in the other night. Her suitcase had been completely trashed, articles of clothing spread all across the floor next to her bed. There were chocolate wrappers, ripped pages of Lilith's favourite books and a couple odd knuts, sickles and galleons. Lilith huffed in disgust before cleaning up the mess with a flick of her wand - although she simply couldn't miss the one page left behind.

She instantly recognised her father's handwriting. She shot to the floor and lifted the piece of crumbled and ruined paper. It was much shorter than any of the pages still remaining in her book. Although it was smudged, it was still somewhat legible.

Lilith, my daughter... Whatever you do, don't turn to darkness. It's tempting, I know that better than anyone. Maybe, if I could've, I would've gone to Lord Voldemort's side. I hope you're safe from him now, if I can't look after you. Please, Lilith. Don't become one of them. I love you.

Lilith flew herself off the floor, her arms flailing as she struggled to hold herself up. She had broken - uncontrollable sobs wracked her body as she clung onto the post of her bed. During her fit of emotion, someone entered the room, but she was too caught up in herself to even notice.

"Uh, Lilith?"

Her bloodshot brown eyes snapped up, and although her necklace was preventing her eyes from actually turning red, they flashed with pure anger and spite. "You!" she yelled out.

"Me?"

"You did this!" Lilith growled, beast-like. Her hand flew up, her fingers curled into her palm. The most modest amount of blood dripped onto the dark grey tiles of the floor. Lilith didn't even acknowledge her minor injury, she just stared Daphne down. Everything her father was trying to teach her had gone straight down the drain.

Daphne stared back, emotionless - it was almost as if her face had been frozen. Lilith, becoming increasingly frustrated by the girl's lack of response, shouted with an unbelievable temper, "Densaugeo!"

Lilith couldn't help but allow a sly smile to reach her face. Daphne's teeth were growing at least three times larger at an alarming rate, moving past her bottom lip and resting just past her chin. Daphne screamed wildly, trying to leave the room, but she had no chance as Lilith said (with her anger satiated), "Petrificus Totalus."

Daphne's body fell straight to the floor. The only thing she could look at was the ceiling and her arms felt as if they were bound to her sides. She was entirely helpless; her legs appeared to her as though they'd been stitched together, her feet wouldn't move even a centimetre apart, her lips wouldn't part so she could reply to Lilith's attacks.

Her powerful ex-friend towered over her. Lilith's head was tilted to the side as her eyes feasted upon the sight of Daphne, drained of any hope she had. There was no smile more false than Lilith Lovell's as she lifted her foot, clad with her school shoe, to Daphne's face and said, "I'm sure Millicent can find a counter-course. If not, well, that's a pity isn't it?"

With the final word of her sentence, Lilith thrust her foot down on Daphne's nose. The girl would've shrieked in pain if she could. Sarcasm dripped from Lilith's actions as she whispered, "Accio tissue," and left it on poor Daphne's face where blood ran from her nose like she had a cold.

"Goodbye, Daphne," Lilith announced as she headed towards the door, flicking her brown tresses back over her shoulder. "Enjoy your stay. I do hope you didn't need the bathroom."
